There aren't temporary flight corridors, but during emergencies, the FAA will issue temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), many of which include the following text: ALL AIRCRAFT ENTERING OR EXITING THE TFR MUST BE ON A DISCRETE CODE ASSIGNED BY AN AIR TRAFFIC...AIRSPACE CONTROL (ATC) FACIL...

Can someone verify the "wrong way" thing? I've never heard that

@falstro I don't think it exists in the US. It's not in the Pilot/Controller Glossary and I've never heard it mentioned. If I'm IFR, ATC should be keeping that altitude free for me anyway.

but he's talking about what the FAA would do, so I assumed he was referring to US ATC.

@falstro The legal requirement to fly those IFR altitudes is "unless otherwise authorized" (or whatever the wording is ) anyway

Another gem from my new flying book: "Ventilation generally improves the cockpit environment significantly." I'll be sure to bear that in mind when I'm freezing my arse off in an open Tiger Moth.

@DanHulme If you honestly object to that statement you should come visit New York in July and I'll stick you in one of the flight school's Warriors with the skirt-lifter vents on the floor :)

A word of advice to anyone who ever wants to buy a PA28: Buy the old ones (1966 and earlier) because they have ACTUAL VENTILATION so it's not a sauna when you're taxiing out :)

@voretaq7 Try the Katana, you're sitting under a concave sheet of plexiglass focusing all those rays right at you. You're well done before the airflow starts pumping OAT air into that little oven. Especially if you have a long taxi. :)

It's really hard for me to imagine anything worse than the new-style Cherokee vents though.

@DanHulme most small-ish GA planes have their instruments arranged in a similar fashion

most larger ones with steam gauges too when I think about it :P

(the lever is the fuel tank selector, the round knob is rudder trim)

I was thinking of the round knob, but I guess it doesn't matter now

@falstro kinda. It's a spring that can push (or pull) on the pedal for you.

yeah it's a nice little feature - especially when you're doing slow flight or stall recovery and you can crank most of the pressure off your foot.

Of course when it's out of whack (like in the plane I trained in) the results can be confusing - like "right rudder in a left turn?!" confusing.
