2 hours later…
3:34 AM

2 hours later…
5:35 AM
mooooooooo

2 hours later…
7:35 AM
quack quack

8:04 AM
Hmmm... walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... it must be a terrorist!

9:03 AM
Uhm. Why would URL shorteners need to set a cookie?

5 hours later…
1:35 PM
Preliminary report on the June 18 crash of a Piper PA-46 in Lehman, TX, is now available at http://go.usa.gov/9RFe
6 days to publish a preliminary report, kudos. BFU needs like 6 months for that.
(they literally just published the preliminary/abbreviated reports for January a week or two ago)
Also, NTSB hearing on Asiana 214 right now
NTSB board meeting on the Asiana Airlines crash to be held today at 9:30am. A webcast will be available http://www.capitolconnection.net/capcon/ntsb/ntsb.htm

1 hour later…
2:47 PM
@falstro Preliminary or Factual reports are usually available within 30 days from the NTSB. 6 days is a really good turnaround :-)

@voretaq7 yup, that's what I figured too :)
you watching the hearing webcast?

also sadly my best-laid plans of watching the Asiana thing real-time have been ruined by audit prep

bummer
what kind of audit?

I'm half paying attention to it. I'll probably watch the whole thing this weekend
ISO 13485 ("Medical Device Quality Systems")

nice
@voretaq7 I've watched it until now, has actually been pretty interesting so far. Gotta take off now though, so I'll miss the rest.

3:05 PM
@falstro the full hearings are usually pretty interesting. The Colgan Air one was especially good.

1 hour later…
4:24 PM
@voretaq7 i can imagine

4:56 PM
Every time I hear about the gyrations people go through to start fuel injected aircraft engines I become MUCH happier with the tiny primer pump and the "don't-pump-the-throttle-or-you'll-burn-the-plane-down" updraft carburetor on the Cherokee :-)

1 hour later…
6:15 PM
@voretaq7 seriously, pumping the throttle causes carb fire?

@falstro well the carburetor is mounted under the engine, with the throttle body pointing up
so if you pump the throttle the accelerator pump squirts fuel into the carb throat, which then drips back down into the air box - so a good backfire can light your air filter
(only really an issue starting the engine - once it's running air gets sucked up through the carb and takes the fuel with it :)

I see, interesting

7:00 PM
@falstro I got my tickets to the Berlin conference in September. Now I just have to tickets on a flying device so I can actually go, but it looks like it's gonna happen. It'll be my first time in Germany, which is exciting.

@BretCopeland Take a boat! :-)

7:35 PM
@voretaq7 can't. I'm deathly afraid of icebergs.

@BretCopeland Cool! What date did you say it was? We should meet up, I'll buy you a beer. Berlin isn't exactly my neck of the woods, but I suppose I could go for a trip. ;) Or if you travel via Frankfurt, that's less than an hour from here.

sail east-by-southeast to Gibraltar and take a train :)

@voretaq7 Google maps used to suggest swimming. Don't know why they removed that easter egg..

@falstro someone probably tried it

It's September 13-14. I'm thinking I'd arrive on Friday the 12th and fly out on Tuesday the 16th.

7:36 PM
@voretaq7 ... and then sued them

I seem to remember you saying you might have something else going on then.

@falstro of course

@BretCopeland oh... bummer, you're right. You're better at keeping track of my calendar than I am. Hmmm.. I'll see what I can do. ;)
Ill figure something out

I'm considering trying to go back in the spring for vacation.
I've got some frequent flyer miles to burn.
And hotels are ridiculously cheap over there.
Or maybe everything seems cheap after living in New York. I'm really not sure how much things are supposed to cost now.

@BretCopeland General rule: Divide what you pay here by 2

7:49 PM
@voretaq7 unless it's rent, then divide by 3.
or more

@BretCopeland why do you think I don't live in NYC proper? :)
