What kind of answer are you looking for? It seems like you already found a lot of relevant information about accident rates.

The question has a bit of a ranty feel, like "I looked at some facts but whatever they say, I think it's unsafe, and I want someone to agree with me."

@mike I think a lot has to do with the perceived tone. Probably people are reading "I looked at two numbers and decided that experts don't know how to do their jobs". Rephrasing it as "I looked at two numbers and don't understand this seemingly related fact, can someone explain?" would probably lead to a better received question
