Q: How can I create a mechanic to players evolve the relationship with their divinity?

É o GabsFor context: recently one of my players asked me if a mechanic could be created to evolve his relationship with his divinity (Eldath), like he had seen in another game. I suspect this request was made because he regretted his character idea and doesn't want to go back. I've asked several times if...

hey there @linksassin, how're things going?

@Shalvenay Hey, not too bad. Recovering from the spicy cough last week. Didn't get particularly sick though.

@linksassin ah, glad you're getting better then. things are alright here, albeit a bit slow and with a bit of a head-scratcher on my hands

@Shalvenay oh?

@linksassin trying to figure out how a cleric in D&D 3.5e can go about interrogating stubborn/defiant NPCs without resorting to overt torture. they have all spells up to 7th circle save for domain spells, and can get higher circle spells via scrolls, but very little access to named magic items. Charm Person was floated here in the chat, but I'm not sure if that's a be-all/end-all, or if I should ask on mainsite for other options?

Zone of Truth + Divination spells would be my go to.
Can use divination magic to get information about the NPC to use against them.

2:19 AM
@linksassin that's a line of thinking I didn't really think of
(I'm notoriously bad about not thinking of divination as an option)

Q: What possibilities are there to find out which clan a vampire belongs to?

Thomas E.In the old vampire (up to V20), the abiltiies of Auspex,... are a bit limited. I've got a few players that try to hide their clan. What options are there for others to find out what clan they truly belong to (thus abilities and actions)? Others is mostly npc's. And its about vampires, but also ot...

@HotRPGQuestions you could try asking nicely

11:17 AM
@AncientSwordRage But then how would you know if the reply actually contains truth?

11:29 AM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica that's why you ask nicely 😜

@AncientSwordRage You can get lied to nicely. ^_^

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica 😱
@HotRPGQuestions is VtR covering all of the non-CofD stuff or does it end where (what was) NWoD started?

11:49 AM
@AncientSwordRage This is VtM, not VtR. V20 is soft-rebooted WoD (the new stuff, but not CoD).
(VtR is CoD.)

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica is VtR the same as V20 now then? And was there anything else in between?

@AncientSwordRage Errrrr, V20 is one of the editions of VtM (WoD). VtR is part of CoD.

12:10 PM
Ahhh I never thought of it as an edition

@AncientSwordRage VtM editions are something like (in ascending order): 1, 2, GURPS, McWoD, revised, 20, 5.
VtR editions are something like . . . 1 and 2, I think.

Ahhhh
I think I assumed that because NWoD (which is now CofD) came.lit after 1 or 2 of OWoD (which is now just WoD) then revised/20 etc was a new game entirely

V20 postdates CoD 1e, IIRC (not sure about 2e/GMC), but is not related.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica yeah, I'm 100% certain on the timeline, but I know that V20 was released after CofD 1e (which, I keep saying so I don't go crazy, used to be NWoD)
Oddly this page doesn't seem to mention V20:
World of Darkness is a series of tabletop role-playing games, originally created by Mark Rein-Hagen for White Wolf Publishing. It began as an annual line of five games in 1991–1995, with Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Mage: The Ascension, Wraith: The Oblivion, and Changeling: The Dreaming, along with off-shoots based on these. The series ended in 2004, and the reboot Chronicles of Darkness was launched the same year with a new line of games. In 2011, the original series was brought back, and the two have since been published concurrently. The games in the series have a shared...
At least not by that moniker
> The CCP Games incarnation of White Wolf Publishing published their last print products for distribution in 2011, with Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition, an update of the pre-reboot game.
Ahhhh
So they rebooted and renamed the original reboot after they updated the pre-reboot version
It's so simple /s

12:53 PM
@AncientSwordRage For extra confusion, V5 seems to be a soft-reboot that nobody admits.

1:04 PM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica it looks so heavily overhauled that I wouldn't recognise it from either version

1:47 PM
@AncientSwordRage V20 is the nickname the fans used, as is W20 (werewolf, not wraith!) and such

2:35 PM
@Trish ahhh

2:57 PM
@AncientSwordRage Whey certainly we can.

3:56 PM
@JohnP Gouda to hear

4:17 PM
@AncientSwordRage Imma just leave this here, it's aged well.
On a side note, I still have the engraved cheese board I won with that.

@JohnP Eyy, so do I.

4:47 PM
@Mithical Awesome! Somewhere I still have some RPG stickers as well, and a couple other small swag items. Never did get a mod hat/shirt, though.

@JohnP I don't give Edam for HNQ anymore. πŸ˜‰

Q: Do plasmoids have advantage when attempting to avoid being grappled?

gtoPlasmoids "have advantage on ability checks [they] make to initiate or escape a grapple." Does "escape" include avoiding the grapple in the first place, or does it only mean attempting to break out of an adversary's successful grapple? Or, asked another way, do plasmoids make all grapple checks ...

@JohnP I think I'm supposed to get some swag sometime in the next 10 years or so.

How can you talk about swag at a time like this:

Q: Prioritize relevance over prevalence when suggesting tags

Thomas MarkovI noticed something annoying when writing a question with the edition-comparison tag: the suggested tags box prioritizes prevalence over relevance. If I type "edition" into the tag box, here are my suggestions: The desired tag, edition-comparison, does not get suggested until I've typed "edition-c"

Q: Have spaceships always cost about the same as putting armor on your horse?

Thomas MarkovWith the release of Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, the Spelljammer setting has come to 5th edition. Much to my surprise, I discovered that I can turn a regular boat into a spaceship for as little as 5,000 gp by casting create spelljammer helm on a chair. The spell has a 5,000 gp component and…...

@KorvinStarmast well played

@AncientSwordRage Amused, I am. 😊

Dangit. I can find when the names changed in Baldurs gate but not the specific date of the Tax Revolts.
