@Mithical Tell that someone that cuts more than 3 inches or more of own body height for most characters

@Trish you must either be very short or extremely tall if you can cut 3" off your height for each character

@AncientSwordRage 200cm flat
most characters are 190 and less :P

@Trish ahh so they give back the borrowed height... Not too inconvenient 🤔😜
Whereas my current character is 55cm shorter than I am

1:04 AM
@AncientSwordRage That's either a hobbit or you are equally in the 2 meter area. OOOr it is a cat and you are short.

@AncientSwordRage I took the final and am now going to forget it all until college except for what I actually need to know which I have written down
@Mithical ditto, except one character is still 5’3” cause she’s loosely based on me except replacing Gender Issues with Magical Identity Issues

That's what characters are for!

Sometimes I look at the itch.io collections people put my games into, and somebody's got Puppy Day in a collection they call "Two player larp."
(Puppy Day is not a larp, and it is also mechanically impossible to play with fewer than three people)

@AncientSwordRage 175 or something!

@BESW maybe they mixed it up with Walkies with Grim?
@Trish close! I'm 177.75cm last time I properly checked

Q: As a GM, how can I balance weapon proficiencies that I grant to players for good roleplay?

HFOrangefishI like a bit of roleplay in my games and I'm quite supportive of any players that play in dumb but in-character ways. I often give some advantages here and there but I am a bit worried about balance. Here are some examples: A gunslinger has a gimmick of using a shotgun to solve every problem, RP...

Q: Does attacking cause the Ring of the Darkhidden's effect to break?

Kuro_NekoThe Ring of the Darkhidden is found in the Magic Item Compendium page 122 and says: You are invisible to darkvision, although you are fully visible in normal light. Since the results of my previous question regarding is the effect of the Ring of the Darkhidden invisibility (located here) determ...

> First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then you rub against your legs, then they feed you.

11:38 AM
@AncientSwordRage that's not a puppy, it's kitten!
hough, proper for Kitten would be: "First you break into their lawn to steal their tasty mice. Then they elevate you to a god and feed you. Then they forget all about your godliness and still feed and pamper you."
@BESW Ok? Hw about the entirety of Noh and Kabuki Theatre?! That's L5R in a nutshell.

@Trish I wanted to send a quote, but you can't if you @ someone
@Trish that's less a music genre and more a performance art

@AncientSwordRage I realized, but rubbing against legs is the Kitten-OS operation for I like you
@AncientSwordRage There's also a music style to both.

also BESW shares these links but doesn't always have an opinion on them/can respond
@Trish yeah more or less :D

@AncientSwordRage the other interpretation is "Your feet are smelly, I like that" - Cats are footfetishists for some reason or another.

@Trish yeah they are
one of mine loves sniffing my beard/ear and if I'm not careful armpit 😒

11:46 AM
@AncientSwordRage youtu.be/op0b7AyaQn0 - tell me this is metal?! No, that is the proper background for L5R though

@Trish ... nobody said it was metal
did they?

12:04 PM
The tweet implied. I contend: There's lots of games that are so not metal. BESM isn't metal but JPop. MAID is Jpop. L5R/Sengoku/Bushido are Classic Japanese Music, including Noh and Kabuki. Vampire:Victorian age is Victorian music. Vampire:Dark Age is Gregorian Music. Werewolf:Wild West is Spaghetti Western music.

@Trish seems like a good thing to tell the original tweeter

I'm not sure where that metal RPG stuff is ubiquitous. I'm still waiting for an opportunity to play Brütal Legend the RPG (need to wait for someone to make it though, even though in some cases ad hoc conversions are not that hard).

12:27 PM
@AncientSwordRage Hm, that could be. I can see thinking of Walkies as a larp.
momatoes started on twitter a discussion of "the most literary #ttrpg"

One of momatoes' questions is "how would you define literary in this context?" and really that's the kicker.

@BESW THATS THE ONE!
:D:D:D

To my mind "literary" has very little to do with "based on literature" and more to do with the core question of "what is literature?"

@BESW hmmm....

(See: my frustrated attempts to get lit.se to recognize that limiting literature to canons was a choice they were making.)

1:29 PM
@BESW (can you spell it out for me?)
(while I'm here, note to self: update this page rpggeek.com/rpgpublisher/35231/storybrewers-roleplaying after work)
@Mithical @bobble does our campaign have a name?

@AncientSwordRage Maybe start here?

BTW, in March I attended a lecture on "Yapese Dance as Literature" which used George McFadden's definition as a springboard:
in The Reading Room, Sep 4, 2017 at 9:06, by BESW
> I should say, then, that literature is a canon which consists of those works in language by which a community defines itself through the course of its history. It includes works primarily artistic and also those whose aesthetic qualities are only secondary. The self-defining activity of the community is conducted in the light of the works, as its members have come to read them (or concretize them)
- McFadden, George. 1978. ‘Literature’: a many-sided process.

will do!

@AncientSwordRage not that I'm aware of

@Mithical The Campaign Formerly Without A Name

@BESW this caught my eye as "Gates McFadden" and I was like ???? until I read it again

1:36 PM
@Mithical That would be a different kind of canon, I suspect.

@Mithical The twitter thread above says it's got to be 25 words or two

in The Reading Room, Jan 31, 2017 at 2:32, by BESW
I don't expect people here to know about Harold Bloom's influence theory (I'd be happier if Bloom didn't), or Houston Wood's ideas about the need to retheorise Oceanic texts. But we need to be open to the idea that they exist and they matter: that the ways we think about literature are not the only ways nor the right ways, and the more ways we can represent the better the site will be.
in The Reading Room, Jan 31, 2017 at 2:40, by BESW
@Zizouz212 A big challenge facing us is that definitions of literature have social weight. Knowing and understanding literature is a hallmark of a valuable person, while a literary canon is a hallmark of a valuable culture. This means discussions about literature quickly turn into discussions of personal identity and worth.
> The Campaign Formerly Without A Name, Now Named For The Purpose Of Fulfiling An Erstwhile Tweet's Requirements Without Providing Any Benefit To The Game Itself
Or, Untitled Campaign

@BESW It's a bit of a difficult balancing act to avoid defining "literature" as a concept too narrowly while still having a scope that allows for a usable site. "literature" as a concept is separate from "literature" as a scope, but it's very hard to separate the two.

Aye. And that's the conversation we couldn't have.
(And ultimately, the reason it's a poor topic for a Stack site.)

Yep. We've kinda just been dancing around it for the past five years.

Morning all!
So I have a new job offer, I'll be working a simpler job for more money (easy when you're moving from self-employment to just employment) with easier hours and a half-week away all expenses paid training course
However life is not done with us just yet... My partner's car is in need of repairs costing $1300, when she bought the car for $1500... We're a week away from getting a decent paycheck each, but we've still got other things we need to deal with as well... Life just likes to throw branches in our spokes
