The 'So You Missed a Game Jam' Game Jam 2021-2022 hosted by breathingstories. Ever joined a game jam but not been able to finish the game you're working on in time? Ever joined a game jam cos it sounds cool, but have a real hard time coming up with an idea, and then only getting a good idea after the jam is over?? This game jam is for you!
kw_writing started on twitter "a forever updated thread of websites that give me inspiration for ttrpg layouts."
"My Body is a Cage: a material review" on Līber Lūdōrum. John Battle guides us through the dungeons of the night.
"The dark history of antisemitism in board games" article by Tom Ana for Dicebreaker. Tabletop games have been used to express hate in ways both explicit and shockingly mundane for centuries. (not specifically about TRPGs, but we've seen similar things in the TRPG space and it's good to know the history and what to look for)
NOVA Jam hosted by Gila RPGs. To celebrate the release of the badass mech-filled RPG NOVA , it's time to jam! Here's the run down: Create anything you want for NOVA
VioletRiotGames wrote a twitter thread about "accessibility in games around something that we may not think about: communication and deadlines."
All Ages TTRPGs hosted by kumada1. The All Ages TTRPG bundle contains 29 TTRPGs by 25 indie creators, all of which are appropriate for players of any age.
SPROUTS ~ RPG by DINO♥JAM. Hand-drawn creatures travel across real-life terrain in this lighthearted adventure ttrpg.
@doppelgreener I check that thread every now and then, but really it's never seemed very effective at actually getting a sense of what we want in the feeds.
My changes to the feed over the last year or so have been entirely my own.
Meta voting, as we've talked about in other contexts, is a poor tool for keeping up with the needs/wants of a changing population, because Votes Are Forever. People who haven't logged in for years, still have their votes counted toward what the current chat population wants in its feed, and there's no way to show that you've changed your mind about something unless the post gets edited.

2:18 AM
@doppelgreener Most of the feeds I've removed over the years, by consensus or on my own, have just been because they posted too often (like hourly) and drowned out everything else, or their content drifted over time and stopped being relephant. Or that time an official D&D rss glitched and dumped its entire post history into the feed multiple times an hour.
I rarely remove "dead" feeds unless they're clearly and officially gone, because not-posting doesn't waste any space and sometimes they come back.
Last year I removed a half-dozen that hadn't shown any life for five years.

@GcL You should come to the pentathlon I compete in every summer: 5K run, 5K bench, 5K (calories of one food) eat, round of golf, obstacle course. Low score wins, it's a point for every minute on the run, every rep on the bench, every 100 calories shortfall from 5000, strokes in golf, second on the obstacle course.

Q: How does an Otyugh move?

Michael ShopsinThe Otyugh is typically depicted with three legs, three tentacles, and an asymmetric body layout. While many have asked questions about the Otyugh like the number of melee attacks or the grapple, nobody has asked about how movement itself works. The 5E Monster Manual lists a speed in the stat-blo...

@nitsua60 I'd bet my worst score at that would be golf. I'd do much better with disc golf.

@nitsua60 That's certainly an interesting combination. What region of the country is it in?

@GcL VT.
@JoelHarmon We have cycled through (standard) golf, disc golf, mini golf... they all work.

@nitsua60 can you get negative points on the food round? If so I may stand a chance

@AncientSwordRage If you can eat more than 5000 cal of one food in an hour, yes, I'd give you some negative points. I've seen many men crumble well before that point, and few drag themselves, crying, to that finish line.

10:33 AM
@nitsua60 a UK veggie supreme double decadence is according to very quick research: 785 calories per 3 slices, and has 10 slices so that's ~2615 so it would take some work but I bet I could do it
Not on the same day as everything else, and not without crying probably, but there's only one way to find out

11:19 AM
I appreciate that they put golf after eating.

@nitsua60 maybe when I was like, 14-16
not anymore
XD

@BESW that would help

I agree, the food part would have been much easier in my mid/late teens than now.

Q: Does the UA Mage of Lorehold Companion ability Healers Light, continue after you bond to a new Ancient Companion?

Sam LacrumbIn the UA of Mages of Strixhaven, the Mages of Lorehold Ancient Companion gains the following ability: Healer’s Light (Healer Only): The companion chooses a creature it can see within 15 feet of itself and flares with invigorating light. The creature gains 1d8 + PB temporary hit points. When yo...

@AncientSwordRage After five years' attempts, I've settled on "maybe if I have a really good day I can clear 4000."

@nitsua60 I naturally, and foolishly, feel challenged to best that

I have also largely eliminated five "this used to be my favorite..." foods from my palatability list.

@nitsua60 because of this?

Yup. Turns out, after eating 4lb of them in a sitting, my favorite cookie is no longer my favorite cookie =\
I'm giving a hard look at a liter of warm (enough to drink) peanut butter for next summer....

@nitsua60 that makes sense
@nitsua60 isn't that a ways off of 5000 cal?

2:48 PM
@AncientSwordRage nah, it's about 32 oz, last time I checked.
For 5000.
600% of your recommended daily fat intake =)

@nitsua60 Naturally eliminating tempting foods by binging on them to stay in shape later down the line ;)

@nitsua60 you ate a fourpounder? I hope your stomach wasn't too upset from your intake of that much heavy metal.

@Trish (I feel like maybe this is a reference I'm not getting?)
@Akixkisu I'll tell you, it's been years since I've had any of {2 meatlover's pizzas, 4lb no-bake cookies, 7 DexTran9600 Coast Guard survival bars, 10 PB&J sandwiches, somehow I'm forgetting one} =D

@nitsua60 only one to gun nomenclature: a fourpounder is a gun that is loaded with a 4 pound lead ball. That gun would weigh something like 600 pounds.

Oh, the surf & turf year. God, the chewing!
@Trish Ah, like cannon. Gotcha. Sorry--I woke up at 3:30 and never got back to sleep =/

2:56 PM
@nitsua60 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_de_4_Gribeauval - that's a perfect (french) fourpounder... it weighs in at almost one metric ton with carriage and all. Ok, 4.3 British pounds

It only costs 4.3 GBP!?

Now I'm just imagining a 4lb cookie being fired out of a cannon
2

@nitsua60 naaah, 4.3 lbs british standard.

@Someone_Evil No, if you toss your cookies you're disqualified from the pentathlon.

3:55 PM
@nitsua60 ah that's just shy of a kilo

Q: What magic items would best make a (corrupt) city guard competitive with Paragon tier heroes?

Richard WintersAssuming that the guards in and of themselves are not worthy of being Paragon-tier, what magic items would best justify giving them Paragon-tier stats, narratively? I want to convey the sense of "unearned power" in their hands. I know I could just make them be Paragon-tier, but the narrative re...

@Trish quite the feast for a rustmonster, no?

@Shalvenay But Nitsua is a Sherson, not a rustmonster!
