While afflicted with Bluerot, a Victim grows grotesque blue boils on their face and back. This disease is carried by Undead (including the drowned ones in Tammeraut’s Fate), and victims most often acquire it through wounds caused by infected creatures.

The disease’s boils manifest in 1d4 hours, causing the victim’s Constitution and Charisma scores to decrease by 1d4 each, to a minimum of 3. This is quickly followed by a fever and tingling in the extremities. An infected creature is vulnerable to radiant damage and gains the ability to breathe Underwater.

The right answer is maximised DPR at epic play?

Or is it under what circumstances should one take it when playing a ranger that wants to maximise DPR at every level?

Is it generally an option that does one any good or completely bad when compared to all other options?

Or does it even make your character worse when compared to not taking it?

All of these would lead to different answers that currently seem equally correct.

And there are more there that one could cover.

That it is an 8th level class feat does some lifting limiting it down, but I don't see what approach here is clearly correct.

It is the name in our campaign (where my bard is now 16) for The Grim Reaper. (FWIW, there is also a bugbear deity who is called The Watcher, or the one who watches, and his sigil is an eye, IIRC, in FR)

@NautArch had a barbarian who followed that deity in Nits's ToA campaign for the (far too) brief time he was with us

The idea behind it is "a melee weapon attack, a ranged weapon attack, a melee spell attack, a ranged melee attack" that requires a d20 roll to hit. (See PHB P. 193 / 196 on "how do you know if it's an attack?") - does that clarify my intent?

'targeted' with respect to an attack is pretty much the only unambiguous use case of the word in the entire corpus.

From the basic outline of making an attack:

I'm not aware of any feature which complicates this particular use of 'target'

All the weirdness about targeting is about features that are not just making an attack.

@DForck42 that's similar to what I am getting at; the attack ends up being an attack at a creature inside the darkness spell, with all that attends. If the attacker has devils sight, for example, nothing happens differently. :) Except nobody outside the darkness knows what's going on in there! 😮

You'd have to add a bit of explanation after casting darkness regarding that it will impose disadvantage on the triggering attack unless the attacker is not at disadvantage for attacking into magical darkness... e.g. Warlock Eyes of the I see through darkness feature.

i haven't seen the original wording, but "When the wearer becomes the target of an attack, as a reaction [item] Magical darkness spreads from the wearer to fill a 15-foot-radius sphere for the duration. The darkness spreads around corners. A creature with darkvision can't seen through this darkness, and nonmagical light can't illuminate it.

If you can cast magic missile at the darkness, you can definitely cast darkness on yourself, and believe in a thing called love.

If the point you choose is on an object you are holding or one that isn’t being worn or carried, the darkness emanates from the object and moves with it. Completely covering the source of the darkness with an opaque object, such as a bowl or a helm, blocks the darkness.

If any of this spell’s area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd Level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.

@Akixkisu i left out the part of the original spell that dispells light spells, could also lower the radius. Darkness is a level 2 spell

I don't want them to be casting it at a long range, the idea is 'shrouded in darkness' and "shadows of Moil' is too high of a level and also for my money too complex.

When the wearer is targeted by a melee or ranged attack, the mantle can be used to cast darkness as a Reaction at the wearer's location if there are enough charges remaining @GcL does that scan OK? .

i made up some potions that where in an alchemist's lab that my players bottled up: 2 yellow - Stimulates its drinker’s natural healing ability. The target regains 2d8 + 7 hit points. After an hour the creature becomes partially transparent and takes 1d6 psychic damage after a short or long rest. The transparent effect lasts 1d4 days.

1 orange - Upon drinking, all negative conditions are removed, health is restored to full, and any injuries are instantly healed. After 1 minute, the creature becomes unconscious for 1d4 hours.

@AncientSwordRage I think the lone wolf facet will regulate the other two. He's a lonewolf, so he wont interfere with the party fighting even though he's a pacifist, and he's a lonewolf, so he won't actually express his horny bardness to others.
