1:22 AM
@Trish I remember figuring that out from just reading the source book

2 hours later…
3:15 AM
@NautArch just said something from Wildemount was pretty cool.

3:27 AM
@KorvinStarmast I deleted it since by the time I got around to sitting down to actually write it out and improve it, other people had already written most of what I would've said in other answers

4:10 AM
Update from yesterday: none of us actually have the prolonged type of stomach flu, thank heavens, so hopefully the variant going around is mild.
But my little brother did digital learning today anyways, because “I don’t want anyone to give me any germs for stomach flu. If I’m getting germs I want something where I can eat while I’m sick”

Small dude's got a point.
Today in Your Fantasy World Needs More Real World Things, goat towers.
(Also the article mentions follies in passing and gosh but worldbuilding needs more follies. Sometimes the answer to "but what is your elaborate dungeon for?" is simply "a rich guy wanted to show off and it got out of hand and then he went bankrupt or overthrown and whoever got the land later tried to make it useful and several generations later here we are.")
"Well, we *call* it the Tomb of the Lizard King, but really nobody can agree on whether the Lizard King was a real person at all, much less where he might be buried. No, this is named for the self-styled Lizard Heir, a rather odd baron who owned this land two hundred years ago."
"So that's who's buried here, then?"
"Oh gosh no, nobody's *buried* in the Tomb of the Lizard King. This is where the Lizard Heir entertained visitors with amusing re-enactments of the Lizard King stories. That's why there's so many secret tunnels, to let the actors move around and change costumes behind the scenes."

4:51 AM
Lol

"I guess that also explains why the gargoyles are moldy papier-mache."
"Alas, yes, the original wooden statues were looted fifty years ago. The replicas are for the tourists --they feel cheated if they don't see the gargoyles-- but since the pumps broke it's been so damp in here that we had to keep making new ones. What with one thing and another the punters stopped coming, and that's when I rented out the lower half to the kobolds. Which brings me to the reason I've asked you all here."
(Punter is a British idiom for a customer at a place like a pub or a shop.)

5:08 AM
ah

6:01 AM
It sounds like some kind of slang for a specific kind of tradesman or something
But that's just my reaction to how weird Brittish English is (and in before someone says all English is weird and that American English is weird, yes that is also correct)
(To be fair all forms of English have weird names for things that don't evoke what they mean except to native speakers of that English type, and I just happen to be personally used to the American versions and not the other ones)

@AncientSwordRage Impervious Troll Archer Shaman! Almost as good or even better than Troll-Throws-Grenades-Through-Humans.
/me arrrgs... wonders how to ask the question if there are notions of Shudo or Wakashu in Rokugan...

10:12 AM
@BESW where I live, and where I used to near bath is littered with follies
@Trish I've written off Rokugan as a setting worth asking questions about

@AncientSwordRage why?

@Trish hmmm maybe I'm misremembering, and it's a d&d seeing in thinking of
I did a quick Google and it's not what I thought it was

@AncientSwordRage Rokugan has some D20 content, but mostly it's its own game

It was on Asians represent where they explained how terrible it is
But that's not Rokugan

10:31 AM
Rokugan uses, if anything, japanese grammar, at times quite wrongly but they tried :3 but never new characters
Kara-Nur was the old Asian Adventures iirc

@Trish kara-tur?

@AncientSwordRage eh, yea. I think that was the old Asian Adventures... but I might be mistaken
no, wait, that was Forgotten Realms

@Trish that's what I know

@AncientSwordRage Apparently, it is the original ORiental Adventures Setting though... "The original Oriental Adventures includes a long background section on the fantasy setting known as Kara-Tur.[4]"
Oriental Adventures (abbreviated OA) is the title shared by two hardback rulebooks published for different versions of the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) fantasy roleplaying game. Each version of Oriental Adventures provides rules for adapting its respective version of D&D for use in campaign settings based on the Far East, rather than the medieval Europe-setting assumed by most D&D books. Both versions of Oriental Adventures include example campaign settings. == Advanced Dungeons & Dragons == The original Oriental Adventures (ISBN 0-88038-099-3) was written by Gary Gygax, David "Zeb" Cook, a...
and with their TSR references, that is pretty much OA supplemental material. Rokugan and Kara-Tur had at some point a lot in common, but Rokugan got better

> The original Oriental Adventures includes a long background section on the fantasy setting known as Kara-Tur.[4] Kara-Tur was later made a continent of Abeir-Toril. TSR went on to produce eight adventure modules using the Oriental Adventures rules and the Kara-Tur setting.

10:42 AM
yea. what I meant XD
but Rokugan got beyond that, making more a sense.
@AncientSwordRage That writing is bonkers. I MUCH prefer the The Dark Eye Dwarven Runes...
the authors of that script actually made sure that you could write that language somewhat efficient with hammer and chissle!
(by blatantly ripping of Futhark XD)

@Trish I was about to say :)

@Someone_Evil yep, they had some design goals though: runes had to be mirrorable to get a different rune, so one can encrypt the text by flipping runes in specific positions
also, Vocals would be not written often
BDPT are the same radical with different mirrorings from the same base. FZ(W), EO, GK, JX, LR, MN(Ng), SSch, A, U, I - they only used pretty much 11 radicals to create a full character set of 24 characters; and by making A, I, EO and U rare characters you get 20 characters with 7 base radicals.
hm, are questions about RPG scripts on topic? As in... Does it help considerably hinder the game flow to hand players texts that are actually written in the script of <insert game race> and <insert language>?

11:12 AM
At first glance that seems stackable

1 hour later…
12:18 PM
@Medix2 ah, makes sense.

12:57 PM
@ThomasMarkov Lies!
And stopped clocks.

8 hours later…
8:45 PM
/me tossed the daily 5 game-rec to close
@AncientSwordRage Oh god, just spent an hour or two listening... this "we can see Japan place" campaign they have thrown together sounds awesome!

Glad you enjoyed it

9:01 PM
I also just spent 2 hours withering the polished surface of leafmetal I painstakingly made yesterday to turn the polished gold into old brass

Q: Are the Nine Hells separate planes or a single plane?

user3569002Are the Nine Hells/Baator considered a single plane of existence in D&D 5e, or are each of the nine layers considered their own separate planes? For example, would the spell Scrying, which requires the target to be on the same plane of existence as the caster, function if the caster and target ar...

10:13 PM
@AncientSwordRage Let me grab Season 2... L5R 5th edition...
