@nitsua60 This. I was about to say, if I were DMing, "knowing the system" isn't really the important criterion for me - nearly anyone can learn the system if they're interested enough. It's more about commitment to the game (i.e. showing up regularly, prioritizing the game over, idk, watching TV or partying or whatever), willingness to work with the group, communicating about any issues, etc.

@AugieBrown Doesn't seem "enough" in what sense? What sort of adventure are your players looking for? Are they interested in the sort of story that LMOP has? What specifically are you worried about with regard to them not taking the plot hook?

Just posted another one of my theory crafting questions, let me know if there's anything you guys think I should add to it. I tried to be as specific as possible in it. (I'll respond to comments and the like tomorrow most likely)

@Himitsu_no_Yami Look up "Mystra's ban": forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Mystra%27s_Ban
past editions made exceptions for this in the form of "epic spells" and the like, I think
5e doesn't really have rules for that
@GcL Not usually! Most people here put in enough effort that it's just a matter of sprucing their posts up a little :)
in other news... just a reminder, I've still got an active bounty on this question for the next 3 days:

Q: What major changes does 5e bring to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting?

OthyaAs I understand it, D&D 4e takes the Forgotten Realms storyline up to around 1469 DR. How far does 5e take it, if at all? Are there many changes to the story? I am using many Forgotten Realms characters, such as Jarlaxle, in my campaign. My campaign takes place in 1499 DR, and I try to follow ...

Perhaps someone can provide a high-quality, up-to-date answer :)
(to be honest, it seems like a strange question as originally worded - "What major changes will 5e bring into the Forgotten Realms campaign setting?" - asked in June 2014, before even the 5e basic rules were officially released... which explains why it got no answers for 2 full years. but now, it seems potentially far more useful as a retrospective than as an attempt to see the future.)

Q: When does the kobold racial trait "Grovel, Cower, and Beg" take effect?

EndemicThe kobold racial trait Grovel, Cower, and Beg is described as follows (VGtM, p. 119): As an action on your turn, you can cower pathetically to distract nearby foes. Until the end of your next turn, your allies gain advantage on attack rolls against enemies within 10 feet of you that can see ...

@V2Blast As I recall, epic spells aren't technically the same thing.

@Miniman Per a footnote on the epic magic FR page: forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Epic_magic
> In 1st and 2nd editions, spells of 10th level and higher are termed "high level", while in 3rd and 3.5 editions, post-9th-level spells are termed as "epic magic". Lost Empires of Faerûn page 43 clarifies these as distinct concepts, but they are treated together here due to their high similarity and overlap.
anyway I'm not really interested in nitpicking what "better than 9th-level" spells are called :P

Q: Is it OK to edit out "I'm new here..." statements from a question?

lucasvwFrequently new users will have statements in their posts like "I'm new here", "Rookie DM here", "This might be a stupid question", etc. Like this question. Is it ok to edit out these statements? I'm worried that it may come off as rude to users that are unfamiliar with SE.

Alas! Yet another campaign hath endeth.

Was it the good ending or one of the evil endings?

They saved the kingdom. Whether that was a good idea, it's yours to decide.

五德 (Wu De) - The Five Powers is a setting-agnostic Cooperative Storytelling Game powered by the Element Dice System, a system based on the east-asian philosophy of Yin & Yang and the 5 Powers, or Elements.
The Wind Began to Howl by wiegraf is a song fiction tabletop role-playing game that brings 2-3 players together with the iconic ballad All Along the Watchtower to create stories of intimate conspiracy and desperate adventure.

[gestures above] I have been looking for a good Bob Dylan Americana ballad TRPG for years and now this exists! I gotta check it out.

Hi @HelpfulPaul, welcome to the RPG.SE lair! Re you plot hook: are your X old artefacts part of some set/related in any way?

They may need extra upvotes in order to meet the rep requirement for chat

@MikeQ They have enough from SO. Users with enough rep don't show up with profile pictures (even when using gravatars)

Last time I checked, SO rep doesn't grant SE chat privileges.

I though chat was shared among the network

SE chat is shared among the SE network.

[Batters head against desk and gives an upvote to bypass the problem]

Yeah, it's frustratingly obtuse. Another example of emergent Stack development failing to be properly documented. But in practice I'm very okay with participation in SO not granting privileges in SE, it's quite a different cultural ecosystem and the lessons don't carry.

Yeah, I'd mostly just like for there to be a way to tell

Opaque systems are super annoying.

Hence the above head on desk violence

Ethical programming requires clearly communicating system information so the user can maintain their locus of control.
Which, actually, ties into HelpfulPaul's question about whether a per-session refresh is "too meta."
The idea that meta is something which there can be too much of, is a table-level choice about whether they want to be making fully-informed decisions during play.

Q: Can Mimics be "created"?

EliasOkay, obligatory "I'm a very new DM and may have missed information available to me/this might be a stupid question". Essentially, I want to know if it's possible to create a mimic, say via a ritual or other magic. I'm thinking of creating an antagonist/villain that is experimenting with creati...

@HotRPGQuestions When a mommy mimic and a daddy mimic pretend each-other very much...

Most of the games I play use table-level signifiers because when we play a game our experience goals are at the table level: we want to have fun with friends, to feel like we contributed to the story, to have an engaging pace of storytelling over the course of the session and reach a satisfying place to conclude each session.
