@BESW can I ask a total noob question? When using my (new, today) Wacom input tablet, I should look at the screen, not the tablet, right? Any tips for getting good at locating myself after a lift-and-reposition, or is it just time?
So, if your new shiny tablet is anything like my old one, you can ghost the pen above the surface of the tablet without touching it, and the cursor will follow as if you're moving the mouse; touching the tablet is like clicking.
coolio--sounds like it's getting the habit into the hand of hesitating just a sec between end-of-line-lift and just slapping it back down where the next line should start.

@BESW Like, if I'm writing a few lines of cursive using the tablet, when I get to the end of a line, lift my hand, slap it back down to start a new line, and it's not neatly lined up, or even below enough...
Just need to practice more, and maybe be more visually aware of the cursor's position in that split-second when I'm close enough to pick up but not touching.
Your standard setup is to have the tablet so that its buttons are on your non-drawing-hand side, with that non-dominant hand poised to smash 'em without interrupting your pen hand's journey.
I think I'll probably be set up differently, since my use-case is pretty different. I'm currently playing with it on my left (dominant) with the buttons above. That leaves my right hand free for mousing, since I'm writing and managing Zoom panels and swapping to other documents to grab snips and drop them onto the whiteboard app.... And sometimes text-chatting with the whole group, so I've got to keep the keyboard front and center. Basically, hyperactive switching among four input devices while trying to keep track of a dozen teenagers. Pretty standard, really.
But Michael Prescott makes some nice "digital drawing for RPG art/maps" videos that have inspired me to try my hand... I'll have to keep those tips in mind for when the time comes =)

@KorvinStarmast Yeah, I had actually never tried head cheese before until I was recently in New Orleans. A restaurant there had a slice fried and put on toasted bread with something else. I tried it. It was delicious.

@NautArch I have stopped believing brits when they describe something as a "pudding". The variety of foods that they label with the term have made it essentially meaningless to me. Most of the foods labeled as "pudding" do not match the north american concept of pudding.
@Someone_Evil I'm not sure what the proportion of dessert puddings are to the savory (and unsavory) variety. There are sufficient non-dessert puddings that when a pudding is on the offer... you can't expect it to be dessert.
@BESW got undo and redo mapped, which was a great call. I'm not having luck so far mapping a button to swap pen<-->eraser, but that seems to be completely because MS Whiteboard has no shortcuts built in, no tooltips, and no documentation =/

@NautArch Warforged are defined by certain functions and behaviours (notably, innate armour plating and a lack of sleep), which is an important matter for a shapeshifter to consider.
I'm trying to recall if it ever came up in the novels. Shifters and dragonmarked were explored pretty extensive, but I don't think changelings were addressed very much.
@Powerdork every race is defined by it's traits. I don't see any difference with warforged. @GcL put up an answer going into more detail, but it's a question about changelings ability.
I think it's definitely about warforged as well. I could anticipate similar questions regarding shifters as well. I'd tag the question with both changeling and specific race if it's one of the non-standard ones.
By 3.5 rules, the warforged weren't valid targets for a lot of things, including changelings impersonations as they were "living constructs"
The 5e conversion simplified and wiped a bunch of the distinction as it was kind of a pain in the butt to deal with. Like requiring separate healing spells for warforged vs everyone else.
Also, there were some really nasty anti-construct spells that did a number on warforged.
I don't miss the rules complexity at all. It was a bear to keep track of and play with.
@GcL Since you bring it up, the argument isn't that "spell slot" and "slot level" are the same thing; it's that a slot level is the level of a spell slot.
@MarkWells That I concur with. It is the level of a spell slot that was used to cast the spell the first time. The second time it's cast, out of the ring, there is not spell slot used. It similarly retains the other characteristcs from casting time such as spell DC.
@GcL OK, now look at any spell that has slot-level-dependent effects. It will say something like "When this spell is cast using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher..." If the spell is cast without using a spell slot, then it's not cast using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher.
@MarkWells The spell was cast using a spell slot the first time, and the level of that slot was explicitly retained so the effects would be the same power as they were going in. You can definitely have spells cast at higher power that don't use spell slots. Lemme go find some examples from the DMG.
Robe of Stars on pg 194 casts magic missile at level 5
If that uses a spell slot, you could cast it from the robe into the ring.
I think it's another deficiency of not having a formal ontology of terms defined... which would be tedious, but probably eliminate these fun edge cases.
(I'd argue that "cast magic missile as a 5th level spell" is nonfunctional as written, same as the Tiefling's racial hellish rebuke, and the only way it makes sense is to interpret that as "as if a 5th level spell slot were used".)
"you can use an action to pull off one of the stars and use it to cast magic missile as a 5th-level spell." The robe wearer is casting the spell as a 5th level spell.
@GcL Meaning what, that it's harder to counterspell? Magic missile's effects don't depend on its level, only on the level of spell slot spent to cast it.
So, the way those items can work as you describe (because I agree that's almost surely the intent of Robe of Stars) is that the magic missile is treated as if it was cast using a 5th-level spell slot.
Necklace of fireball also refers to fireball at higher levels: "When you do so, increase the level of the fireball by 1 for each bead beyond the first."

Particularly when the argument for Ring of Spell Storing requiring a spell slot is that it specifies its capacity in terms of slot level, not that it actually says "the spell must be cast using a spell slot".
The text I have is "The level of the slot used to cast the spell determines how much space it uses." This was taken to mean if it doesn't burn a spell slot, it can't go in.
@MarkWells As far as I can tell, the sentence "You can increase the spell slot level by one for each additional charge you expend." in the wand of fireballs description is indeed the latest version, at least as of the November 2018 printing of the DMG.
It hasn't changed since the 1st printing either

@nitsua60 I'm glad I could be helpful! Wacom's stuff can be kinda intimidatingly feature-dense, and they're designed for use with programs that have more comprehensive keybinding so MS Whiteboard must be extra tough to use with one.
@BESW Yeah--from a cursory reading I'm just not going to worry about it too much. Having Undo/Redo mapped is awesome, and "dipping in the well" to grab the eraser is a little annoying, but not too bad.
I hold out hope that I'll somehow figure it out, as my laptop's stylus nicely plays with Whiteboard: if you click the button while "drawing" it auto-switches to eraser. So I figure if I can dig into the Wacom stylus's buttons, I may be able to recreate that.
(Also, Wacom's button bindings can be customized per program! So you can have it behave differently depending on what app you're interacting with. It's magical.)
