@MikeQ I'm a fan of things (such as recipes) generated by training markov chains/neural nets/etc.
"Combine lemon juice and mozzarella cheese and mayonnaise in a bowl. Add baking chocolate, blending well."
"NOTE: Cover with delicious dice them bread for about 30 minutes."

> Preheat oven to 350. In a medium bowl, combine milk, the sugar, vanilla and seasoned flour and water and then cornstarch. add tomatoes, oregano, and nutmeg; serve.

"2 tb Balsamic cocoa"

"Refrigerate for 30 to 30 minutes or until the mushrooms are not boil."

Reminds me of RoboRosewater

are you familiar with the doom that came to puppet/at the modules of madness?

Yep, also King James Programming

I think that set is pretty much my favourite

Q: Arcane Adept: is this proposed Warlock feat balanced as compared to PHB feats?

KorvinStarmastWhile discussing Warlocks and the new Uneartherd Arcana at GiTP forums, we were kicking around the idea of a class only feat (versus the Xanather's race based feats) and I arrived at the following homebrew Arcane Adept feat. Purpose - support the Warlock design goal of customizability. I quit...

Q: Does a patron have to know their warlock?

Himitsu_no_YamiSomewhat related to this question but in reverse. I want to know if a warlock's patron actually has to be aware of their warlock. Could the warlock be, for example, siphoning power from their patron without them even noticing? The only one that specifically mentions this one way or the other is t...

For those with an interest in current movies, Knives Out was a really fun take on the 'whodunnit' genre. Recommended.

@Someone_Evil The opinion based tag is pretty bad for this. Often questions are closed just because they aren't asked in the vernacular way. I know SE isn't exactly newbie friendly, but this seems more hostile than unfriendly.

@KorvinStarmast I've heard good things about it and also know nothing about what it's about.

A: Are unwilling Changeling PCs from "Eberron: Rising from the Last War" now immune to the Polymorph spell?

V2BlastChangelings are considered "shapechangers", so they're unaffected by polymorph The description of the polymorph spell says (emphasis mine): The spell has no effect on a shapechanger or a creature with 0 hit points. As you note, the changeling race has a trait that allows them to change the...

Keith Baker confirmed with WotC that the changeling race (D&D 5e, Eberron) having their shapeshifting trait be called "Shapechanger" is intended to have them mechanically be treated as shapechangers:
> I have confirmed with WotC: Changelings ARE supposed to be considered shapechangers. As such, they are indeed immune to polymorph and vulnerable to moonbeam.

@jgn You might find the answer to this discussion useful, if you haven't read it already. It focuses on a single word, 'should', but the idea is applicable to a lot of Too Broad/POB

@Someone_Evil Yup, definitely a great example of culture & jargon issues that create a high barrier to entry. It is confusing as a new user to see almost every question is opinion based, yet only some are closed seemingly at random. I still feel it is a strange proxy. In real life if you ask "should I play bard or ranger?" it is an easy question that can be answered solely with facts. Yet purely subjective questions about how to deal with problem players or DM techniques are allowed.

With your example, that needs some follow up questions before it is properly answered. What is your goal with the character? What is the optimization style/degree? If you ask a single person, they might opine one way (or the other), but that doesn't mean it's a good answer
With the jargon issue, I agree. "Opinion based" is now jargon for "primarily opinion based". We also had an issue with overaggressive closing of questions with the old wording, and the fear (at least mine) is that it's going to be murkier to handle that with the new wording

jgn
@Someone_Evil There is a finite exhaustible list of advantages/disadvantages. But you can always ask for more clarification, I don't think that's a problem.
@Someone_Evil As far as I have encountered the term "POB" has little to do with opinions :P The problem is the lack of criteria for a successful answer, or comparing answers.
For whatever reason subjective and unsupported answers are totally cool, but threads that may encourage them are not. It's a weird dynamic.

12:44 PM
@jgn I don't think your first statement there is unambiguously correct

jgn
@Someone_Evil "tolerated" "fine" "not deleted", etc. If you want to say that's just a result of questions being lockable and answers not, then ok. Either way it's the same result.

Answers are lockable, but I assume you meant closable

jgn
I didn't know there was a lock function. I meant lock. What's the difference between lock and close?

A lot has been quarrelled over supporting answers especially on subjective questions. I will not go over it again because I don't think that will be productive, you can go read the meta discussions, if you haven't already
@jgn Locking posts is a diamond mod power which prevents all activity on that post (edits, comments, votes, etc.)

jgn
@Someone_Evil I see, thanks.
@Someone_Evil Are you saying there is arguments for not supporting answers? @_@;
I read all the meta FAQ a couple of times when I first joined, but I don't think I have read all of the metas yet.

jgn
I don't think I have made it 6 or 9 years back on meta yet lol

That one is part of the FAQ, and for good reason

jgn
I don't remember it, but then again I'm still on the first link of the answer.
I think there's more than 20 in the faq last I checked

"Techniques to run games diceless?" is this really a good question?
How do you even judge if an answer is good or not?

A: How much subjectiveness is OK?

mxyzplk says reinstate MonicaSome amount of subjectivity is unavoidable and desirable. See the SO blog post "Good Subjective, Bad Subjective" for the Management's take on the question. I think we should try to steer things toward less subjective questions, however. We don't need another forums site for people to gibber abo...

Reading meta is always so dissonant.

Exactly what is allowable on the stack has also changed with time. Game recommendation used to be allowed (under subjective type questions), but aren't anymore when policing them became to burdensome. Don't think too much of that example out of context

jgn
I am thinking about it in context and it doesn't seem good to me.
I see that I did vote on comments for that thread you linked, so I must have read it. I probably didn't pay much attention because it is so far divorced by how the site appears to run.
I understand the ideology behind it, but pragmatically it doesn't make much sense.

In context it is used as an example for how to word/title a subjective question to limit inflammatory-ness. If a good question draws in too many 'bad' answers, as in highly opinionated answers, something needs to be done about it. Protection, edits, closure, depending on specificts.
But you're right, that example might not be perfect anymore. If you think it should be changed to meet current stack expectations, you could prompt mxy to come up with a new one

jgn
I don't think it really matters. It may be a bad question by meta standards but on the site it's fine, in the end that's what matters right?

2:07 PM
@jgn It's not a good question. It was closed 5 years ago for not being precise enough.

Q: Can a creature of any alignment attune to this magic weapon in Curse of Strahd?

NathanSIn Curse of Strahd, area K74h of Castle Ravenloft (p. 81), there is a certain magic weapon: The last bullet point describes that, if you are attuned to the weapon, you are granted the ability to cast that spell; I assume that the +1 is a "passive" ability that does not require attunement, but ...

5:32 PM
@NautArch I made an edit to make it look more like an answer. Better?

6:07 PM
@KorvinStarmast i'm honestly not sure :/ Might be worth a meta about how to handle those.
I fully get wanting to update on what you've chosen and why, but that seems out of our normal process (with selecting an answer generally doing that, too.)

6:44 PM
@NautArch Only one answer can be selected, many answers can be helpful. We are not writing code here. ;) (And I think mattdm nailed it)
