@BESW @Ash yeah it definitely has a ton of moving parts
@Ash no it's literally a pretty complex game too, I don't think it's just you that has that issue at all
XD

@Yuuki What's going on?

hey yeah

The Monte Cook Games "Consent in Gaming" free PDF resource is also available on DriveThruRPG, for people who don't want to give MCG so much personal information.

"Mnemonic: Cracks in the Mirror" by Dee Pennyway is an intimate GMless TTRPG about exploring personal culture in places of memory. A 40% no-questions-no-judgements discount is available for members of marginalized communities, and every full-price purchase adds a "community" copy that can be claimed for free by people who can't afford it otherwise.
(I really love how itchio allows all these innovative ways to put games in the hands of people who lack spare resources, without penalizing the creators.)

I should really completely rebuild the site my convention is using for players to choose games, and open it to GMs creating the games in the database themselves, and also changing the UX and the graphics.
I will never actually want to do that much work.

@BESW Ah, excellent. Thanks for the link!

@BESW and here, my problem geographically speaking in my DW campaign is that I can't get North American geography out of my head

@Shalvenay And the fantasy aesthetics exported by the US are typically very euro-centric also, so it's a reinforcing loop.

@BESW yeah, I'm the exception somewhat in that it's a physical-geography-centric-problem for me

I doubt you're alone in that. Sorenson is talking mostly about cultural worldbuilding, not geographical, and I see a lot of American-default geography creep into D&D resources.

yeah

Which, fair play, the majority of designers and a lot of inspirational materials are North American.

1:58 PM
one Eurocentrism that gets under my skin specifically with druids is how constrained things like treants are. the way spells like Changestaff and Liveoak are written tends to conflate Eurocentric forest flavor with crunch, and that's not so hot in environments where the tree population is different
(if you want to be evil: manchineel treants, straight from the Caribbean)

2:17 PM
@Shalvenay Putting prairies and mesas everywhere?

@vicky_molokh a large steppe/prairie is an important part of the game world, yes, but part of it is also how things are laid out relative to each other

Overall the thread seems to be full of cool ideas, though I'm not sure how to react to the parts about writing and maths, as writing seems to correlate strongly with technological development regardless of culture - the Chinese, the Arabs, the Aztecs and various other technologically advanced American civilisations, the Mongols, the Babylonians, the Indians. Language and maths development isn't a Euro-specific thing, it's an tech-advancement-specific thing.

That doesn't seem related to what Sorensen is saying.

What is the best tank pc in dnd5e?

8:53 PM
@Ludoss: The one true polymorphed into an earth elemental.

and the best class?

probably druid unless considering really low level in which case it's fighter

not the barbarian?

you said tank not killer

asking for the "best class" is really not a well-defined question :P

9:00 PM
What is a killer?

something that kills rather than survives

ah, okay.
A barbarian has more hp than a fighter and has nearly same AC (15 vs 16) and he has resistence

Certainly specific classes are the "best" for specific combat roles. But even given the apparently widespread attitude that D&D is largely about combat, what is "best" depends very much on what the DM throws at you. What use is a "tank" if the enemies are just ignoring you and downing your teammates or using AoEs? What use is a someone who deals large amounts of single-target damage against plenty of squishy minions?

What combat situation is bad for a berserker? Lots of minions?

Getting caught in a Forcecage :P
No saving throw, they're just entirely useless.

9:08 PM
Okay, that is right.
A spellcaster, who can wield 7lvl spells, will just kill the lvl4 barbarian with a fireball

Q: Teleport everything in a large zone; or teleport all living things and make a lot of equipment disappear

TedImagine a traveling party of about 30 people, animals, wagons, and a bunch of equipment (e.g. think traveling theater). I'm trying to come up with a way for a devilish entity to teleport all of that away (on the same plane); or alternatively, teleport everybody and their animals, and then make al...
