8:03 PM
oh snap. Looks like we're having a mod election.

ah ok
I was half expecting that

I was wondering which way it would go too. I half expected it much sooner than this actually.

well I assume the mods had to wait to confer about how much it might be appreciated to have one more
seeing as we are down one

@trogdor I read this first as "down to one" and was like what the heck did I miss?!

no no XD

8:06 PM
@trogdor Seems very likely.

we have three right now, but we used to have four
XD

right right, it was just a slight misreading that gave me a momentary shock is all lol.

and I assume you know that but that was all I was saying is what I mean

yup yup!

8:22 PM
Well I'll dig myself out of this "cannot" grammer hole lol
I've learned things today!

Q: 2019 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

JNatRole-Playing Games is scheduled for an election next week, May 27th. In connection with that, we will be holding a Q&A with the candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is completely volunta...

8:48 PM
but who are the candidates

@Carcer well nomination will come next so candidates will be decided then it seems. However, it is a good question if the current elected mods will be running as well or not.

ah
it's a misleadingly stated date

I suspect not? But I don't really have a good reason]

"an election is scheduled for May 27th" implies that's when the vote is, not the date that election campaigning starts

"Until the nomination phase, (so, until May 27th at 20:00:00Z UTC, or 4:00 pm EDT "

8:51 PM
yeah
but you can't expect me to read things.

yeah I was a bit confused by that as well. I think election though is a phase the site gets put into. And that includes nomination as part of that process lol
hahaha

yeah. Oh well

It definitely left me scratching my head for a second as well so I get you ;)

in the meantime the site seems to be bugged, my question has 2 votes and 20 views and isn't in HNQ yet.

hahahah! I mean, I wish I could even say that was an exaggeration.

8:53 PM
@Carcer indeed

9:21 PM
@trogdor What about "Paradigm Points"?

@BESW for the game you are making you mean?
that sounds fine to me as long as it still says something you want it to say
I kinda like it even

It's not the same, but it's still implying the concept through context.

Yeah

9:40 PM
@Rubiksmoose mods are elected for life; existing mods are not running. This is to add new ones.

Ben
Morning all.

all hail glorious Moderator-For-Life mxyzplk!

Ben
No spoilers, but contrary to popular belief; I liked it.

I think Ben's on about Game of Thrones.

9:44 PM
Ah

Ben
^
So, did I miss a mod election?

It's on the 27th
So unless you're chatting from the future, no

Ben
Well... Technically I am

more accurately, nominations are on the 27th
right now it's just soliciting questions to ask whoever runs in the mod election

Ben
Noice
And @williamporter no spoilers from the future either

9:53 PM
@Ben Also no spoilers: there was one part of the episode that really poshed† me off, but other than that scene, I thought it was the best possible version of the episode we could have expected, given the diegetic constraints set by the season leading up to it.

Ben
It was done well. They set it up well enough that even that was unexpected
But I thought it was getting a bit old when Nick Fury showed up.

@Ben shh, but also we are only a day in the future so we are still good

Ben
10:18 PM
@trogdor Ex-ac-tacally
I am yet to have my morning coffee, so, I'm in that weird space.

XD
I don't drink coffee and I usually wake up early and get right to something relaxing

Ben
If I did that I'd fall back asleep haha
Each to their own I guess haha

if I didn't know better I would say I am an extreme morning person but that has seemingly extra social connotations and I prefer to be alone in the morning for a couple hours at least

@mxyzplk thanks! That is kind of what I thought :)

yeah our mods don't get "re-elected" they just go until they,.. can't do the job anymore
which I have to imagine is stressful really

10:26 PM
Well at the very least I'm happy with that because I think our current mod team does a spiffy job.

I think so too

I imagine having to stand for reelection would be even more stressful possibly

yes but my point was that it's a long term in which you clean up the mess around here and get,... variable appreciation
and the decision to retire from it is stressful in and of itself I would think

moderating a stack is not a task so important that frequent re-election is worth the hassle

Q: Should Community Moderators be "elected for life", or have terms?

Jeff AtwoodWhile I applaud the excellent work of all our community moderators, the question has come up: How long will be the elected moderator’s “mandate”? Is it for life, or are we going to have “moderator elections” regularly? Of course, any community moderator who wishes to recuse him or herself c...

@trogdor you mean anything from no appreciation to active negativity?

10:29 PM
@Rubiksmoose yes but also being appreciated, it runs the whole range

Ben
Is it a numbers thing? Like, we have x mods, we need a couple more just to make sure the gap is filled?

@Ben I think it is entirely based on the percieved needs of the community and the mods themselves.

well, SSD recently retired, so we're a mod down from where we were before

@Ben no we actually added one last time

If either/both think we need more we get more.

10:31 PM
You would expect the moderation team to grow over time, though - as the userbase of the stack itself does

Q: Do we want three moderators, or four?

SevenSidedDieWhen we asked Stack Staff for an election to fill wax eagle's spot, we were thinking just in terms of bringing our active moderators back up to three. We didn't think about it much farther than that. The idea of electing more than one more mod came up in comments, and Grace Note (who's the CM ta...

err unless you didn't mean we kept the mod's numbers at a specific level

Ben
@trogdor Well, more moderators isn't a bad thing, but as with anything, there is always such a thing as "too much"
Not saying we're anywhere near there yet though

@Ben yeah I mean I don't think we need like 7 here, right now
4 seems like a better number than 3 though

Ben
A 6 hour shift sounds reasonable :P

10:33 PM
@trogdor alright all let's elect 12.3 more moderators this election. Sound good?

@Ben lol that's just silly but I love it anyway
@Rubiksmoose what did you do to that .7 of a person?

@trogdor Sacrifices had to be made to distill that perfect 12.3 person moderation team.

Ben
@trogdor Well, they're .3 of a mod, not a person
So, it's just like, the deciding vote in a tie

New rule: If you defeat a mod in combat, you gain their position

no thanks

10:36 PM
@MikeQ ah yes, the classic election by combat
XD

MODAL COMBAT.

Ben
@MikeQ That's why it's called a De-mod-cracy

@BESW DELETE HIM!

Ben
DELETE! DELETE!!

[slow claps][all around]

10:38 PM
are you
the dalek is on purpose isn't it
that's bait

Ben
Lol

@Carcer lol yeah don't do it

I made my save against that one

XD

now you can't affect me with it again for 24 hours.

10:40 PM
All these Battlestar references are getting out of hand

@MikeQ I'm completely immune to that attack

@MikeQ Well since we were talking about fighting I assumed it was Battlestar Wars

@Rubiksmoose Yep. Live long and may the spice be with you

BattleStar War of the World of Synnibarr
I have just remembered that Twilight Imperium has War Suns, which are totally NOT DEATH STARS

Or as the Campaign podcast is fond of calling them: Murderballs

Ben
10:45 PM
@Carcer "This is war, sun!"

I have a friend who calls them Deathsticles, because the mini is about the right size

@Ben What is the AC of the sun?

Uh excuse me, Death Stars are followers of Voldemort. That's magic, not sci fi.

What are the Monstars, then?

Alright time to stop being goofy and go make dinner and plant some things. ttfn

Ben
10:47 PM
@Rubiksmoose All of it

@Ben ah yes, of course! The answer is so obvious now.

Ben
Guys, the boss is gone! Let's break out the snacks!
@Carcer I'm sorry but I'm still chuckling at that. Partially at my own terrible joke, but your reply made it so much better haha

@Ben I would've found a link for the Fury Road "that's bait" gif if I weren't so lazy.

Ben
@Miniman [wave]
@Carcer Appropriate :P

@Ben \o

Ben
10:59 PM
How are we today

Same old, same old.

Ben
If you would like, I wanna figure out my Air Adept today.
I've never done this "forward planning" for multiclass before, so I could use a few tips
I am also re-reading the Wild Magic Origin. If the DM makes you roll on the Wild Magic table every time, you can effectively gain advantage a lot
> Tides of Chaos: you can manipulate the forces of chance and chaos to gain advantage on one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Once you do so. You must finish a long rest before you can use this feature again. Any time before you regain the use of this feature, the DM can have you roll on the Wild Magic Surge table immediately after you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher. You then regain the use of this feature.

Yeah, total DM dependency is kinda the WM's thing.

Ben
Fair enough

@Ben I mean, as always, I'll respond to anything...eventually. No guarantees on how long/short that is, though.

Ben
11:14 PM
@Miniman Well that's a good guarantee :D
So the Air Genasi gets +1 Dex, and +2 Con. As a Sorcerer, Con is important as they get a smaller hit die.
Using the Point-buy system, I came up with 10/14/16/10/10/15 (including the racial bonuses)
Or, 10/15/14/10/11/15 for the higher Dex, for the bigger AC and you know, for when they multi in to Fighter for the shortsword

Still refusing to dump a single stat, I see :P

Ben
I don't like to be negative :P
I could dump Int..

I mean, if you use the medium armour you get from fighter, 14 Dex is all you'll ever need. On the other hand, if you're planning on attacking with it, you probably want it as high as you can get.

Ben
Bump my Dex up another point

@Ben I'd dump Str first, personally.
Int amd Wis are both pretty handy in general, whereas if you have Dex, you'll almost never remember that you even have a Str score.

Ben
11:21 PM
Fair enough
Ok so 8/16/14/10/11/15
First ASI bump up Cha and Con, then Con and Wis?

Having a +3 in your primary modifier until level 12 (at the earliest) might get a little frustrating, I think.

Ben
Potentially. I was thinking that.
I suppose a lot of the "air" spells are very much about moving around, and moving others around too
And with a higher dex, con isn't as important
And if I choose the Soldier background, that might be enough of a reason as to why I'm allowed to multiclass into fighter... potentially... if I buy the gm a pizza. Lol

11:37 PM
Stat requirements to multi class into fighter are 13 dex, 13 cha. You're fine.

Ben
Yeah

You could go 8/15/16/10/10/15 - first ASI goes to Dex and Cha, then you're free to pump Cha.

Ben
Just in regards to "where do you get your training from". My GM likes to have some sort of logical enough reasoning as to where you get your "training" from

It leaves you behind on Dex until level 4, but that's not too bad.
@Ben I was raised in a town where everyone has magic and learns to fight as a kid?

Ben
Makes sense haha

11:40 PM
I fought my first pair of magical supervillains when I was, like, 5 years old or something?

Ben
@Miniman 17, haha. Maybe 14 at the youngest?

(And lost, but watching them destroy me instantly was very instructive.)

Ben
Gotta double check the wiki :P

@Ben Nah, I meant the first time.

Ben
Oh yes, true
You know what I just realised?
It's not Air Adept, it's Jupiter Adept. No wonder that sounded weird haha
@Miniman Actually, canonically, he was actually only 14. I was referring to Ivan in the main campaign as being 14 lol

user15026
11:44 PM
@Ben pizza bribery is good bribery :p

Ben
It is indeed haha

Pizza
Mmm

Ben
@Miniman I don't know why I never realised that until now... hahahaha

@Miniman I love finding extra absurdity where there was none intended
It's hilarious

11:47 PM
@Ben Can a Jupiter Adept ascend?

@BESW back foul fiend! Back I say! XP

@BESW The civilization of Jupiter Adepts ripped their city out of the ground and dumped it on the moon.

Ben
So, yes. Lol

Without using any roller skates, even.

@Miniman Don't encourage this!
XD

Ben
11:49 PM
Actually not. Haha.
It's legit lore of the game :P

@Ben but you don't need to tell him that :P
@BESW I've never watched it you are just encroaching on my bad joke territory
But I will watch that
When I'm not at work

@trogdor I watched it - we wanted to see if it was as terrible as it looked.
Spoiler: it was worse.
And I love really terrible movies. I really do.

Ben
For those interested: goldensun.fandom.com/wiki/Anemos

user15026
@Miniman I watched it too and I agree with your assessment.

Ben
11:55 PM
Maybe I can say that's where I came from :P Since I'm blue and float around all the time

Mm I have not heard especially good things to be sure

Ben
@miniman @ash is this the linked video, or the movie itself?

@Ben the movie itself

user15026
@Ben I played Golden Sun:Dark Dawn, that was a pretty excellent game.

The linked video is from people who watch movies people say are bad

Ben
11:56 PM
Right. I watched it, and I don't remember any of it. Other than Channing was attempting to be serious

And then they try to judge the movie on Thier own terms

I didn't find Jupiter Ascending to be really awful, but I also found it was TOTALLY not the kind of movie I went in expecting. that pleased me but it may have been a negative influence for others.
And yeah, I really like Deep Dive because they watch memetically bad films with the goal of finding things to love about them.

@Ash Oh good! I've always thought that if someone played Dark Dawn without having played the first two, they'd really like it.

Ben
@BESW I always say that it (whichever movie I go see) was "ok".
Except Spiderverse, I had problems containing myself there. Haha

Lol
Spiderverse was so bad right? Just horrible, worst movie ever just so bad :P

Ben
11:59 PM
@Ash Oh yeah? Well, I feel like there's four of us now :D

Four?

Ben
@trogdor It was basically just a repeat of everything they've already done. Just reusing so much material from other movies.

user15026
@Miniman yeah I hadn't played any others and I loved Dark Dawn

Ben
@trogdor It's Miniman, Ash, MikeQ and myself
