@Shalvenay hiya
@Shalvenay Yeah--3d3 and just "read" it in ternary =)

@nitsua60 now a decent time for us to talk, btw? :)

It's sad we don't have a standardized, agreed upon definition for Thrillers; it ends up becoming a way to stigmatize Horror. I've found the best delineation between the two to be Thrillers are told from the POV of the investigator, while Horror is from the POV of the victim.

@Shalvenay After kid-bed. I forget what happened last night?

@nitsua60 forgot about what I wanted to talk to you about :P

Serendipity!

11:21 PM
@BESW in that case, then what would a horror storyline told from the PoV of the perpetrator be called?

@Shalvenay slasher porn.

@Shalvenay A rom com probably. They are always doing it for the girl.

I don't think it's a perfect delineation, because as I've said before "horror" is already far too broad a term to be really useful for much.
@linksassin ...you're not wrong. A lot of romcoms are terrifying.

I agree
I mean, just the stupid idea that you should make a big creepy gesture after being rejected alone

@BESW I mean he killed your whole family, but he only did it because he loves you... Happy Ending right?

11:25 PM
Is terrifying

@trogdor So true. "I'm sorry I slept with your sister. Heres a romantic ballad..."

@linksassin yep definitely not basically the worst stalker ever

All of this. So many romcoms romanticize the exact same behaviors that in a horror movie would be part of the rising tension establishing the killer's bonafides.

(Best use of "Solsbury Hill" ever, btw.)

11:26 PM
@linksassin I mean usually it's not because they slept with the lady's sister but regardless

@nitsua60 🎵 His wife, Wendy!
(To the tune of the Flintstones theme, in case it's not clear.)

@BESW Stalking, obsession, starting to involve oneself in the target's personal life and friendships, and then the kidnapping-into-romance happens.

@BESW After they guzzle gummi-berry juice, right?
(Gargamel loves the taste.)

@trogdor I've seen rom com that have something that rediculous. Dude does something unforgivable. One minor romantic gesture fixes everythign

@linksassin that's true yeah
It's ridiculous
But also
Even in the ones where it's a misunderstanding or not quite an unforgivable thing,.... The way they go about fixing it is dumb

11:29 PM
I mean, your ex breaking into your house and covering it in photos of you together is only romantic in a movie. In real life it's a restraining order

Yes exactly
Even if he or she didn't do anything crazy or horrible before that
It's still really bad

@linksassin I walked into somebody's office and saw on his bulletin board behind him about a hundred pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow cut out of magazines and such. I've never in real life been so freaked out.

@nitsua60 oh my God this is,... Actually scary

I still, fifteen years later, can't tell if it's better or worse that he knows her casually.

"Stalking for Love at the Movies," by Jonathan McIntosh for Pop Culture Detective. The YouTube video seems to be down (but it's archived!), and the other resources are still there.

11:32 PM
@BESW they took it down?
Sheesh

Wow that's creepy
Anyone with a collection of photos of someone else is creepy tbh. Whether you know them or not

@linksassin it's a breakdown of what we have been talking about
Oh you mean the actual photo thing yeah
That's pretty bad
I mean, if you actually know the person one photo bis probably fine, maybe depending on how well you know each other

And for people who can't do video essays, transcript.

But a collection is a little,.... Yeah
For anyone other than like, your direct family

I don't even have a collection of photos of my wife like that

11:35 PM
@BESW What about this one?

@doppelgreener slightly different video

@doppelgreener What about it? It's the same category we're talking about, yeah.

It is a video about the thing that is not taken down.

Oh yeah, passengers is all sort of creepy. Still a decent movie though. If you don't take it too seriously

It's the same broad category, but stalking for love and abduction as romance aren't the same thing. I think it's good to remember that both of them are staples of romantic plots.

11:37 PM
@linksassin well yeah but I mean, your parents could have a lot of pictures of you (generalized you) , and no one would be expected to see that as creepy unless they were really bad parents

Oh, right!
That one's about stalking, gotcha
Ok it sucks that one's taken down then, I would've wanted to watch that
Transcript next best thing! Hooray

(See also: why we don't need another remake of V for Vendetta.)

@trogdor I think it's more in the way they are presented. Having a bunch on the wall is a bit creepier than just having them in an album

Also it's weird they took one of those videos down and not the other

@doppelgreener There's an archive link. It's just not on YT anymore.

11:38 PM
Isn't it?

@trogdor I assume it's some copyright nonsense.

@linksassin I suppose that's fair yeah
@BESW ah ok

When we first met is another movie I saw recently that's guilty of this. Time travel to get the girl.

Groundhog Day. [shudder]

I thought maybe it was taken somehow as advocating the behavior rather than deconstructing it
@BESW not to mention how he apparently also kills himself a few times and whatnot

11:41 PM
@trogdor Hahahah like YouTube would take down a video on actual moral grounds.

Which I had forgotten
@BESW yeah,
......
I guess I hoped so hard that that was the reason
I didn't stop to think who I was talking about here

It's probably a copyright strike for including snippets of the movies

(If Moral Grounds isn't the name of a vegan fair trade coffee co-op, why not?)

Yeah

@linksassin :/ ugh. copystrike over what I'm pretty darn sure is fair use FWIH here

11:44 PM
Because it does, in fact I think most if not all the footage in it is from the movies it's talking about
@Shalvenay YouTube is pretty notorious for not taking the slightest chance with that kind of thing

@trogdor yeah, the whole situation is ugly as all get out

Yep

I've heard of videos getting taken down because they had a radio station on in the background and there was a song playing they didn't have the rights to

@linksassin yup the infamous Dancing Baby case

11:47 PM
hey there @rockhopper72, welcome to the RPG.SE lair :)

hi!

hey as well @BenjaminOlson, welcome to the RPG.SE lair :)

New people! Quick, pretend we're on topic.

RPGS! DICE! DAMAGE!
Roll for initiative!

Rar RAR! BURNINTE the adventurers

11:53 PM
@trogdor -- btw, today, I realized why my idea of recasting Pedro as a henge would really not work at all -- guess what Pedro and his F. p. pealei kin eat?

I R DAGRON
@Shalvenay what?

@trogdor birbs
that would have been really awful with Aviosu in the party....

Oh yeah a little akward that
Oh a Falcon yeah

eh, henge aren't just animals.

Yes but
Especially because they all were animals that game,...

11:56 PM
@trogdor yeah, if I ever do such a henge, remind me not to take Bird Brain

There are ghosts and aliens, and ogres but we weren't delving into the full roster for a first game
There is also a witch option which is nice if you really want to be a human,...
I don't know why you would but you know, options

What game system is this?

Golden Sky Stories
