@GreySage I refuse to go!

I know that song, but I have no idea where it is from

popularly, fallout 3
old school woody herman i think

8:27 PM
hey guys, in 5e are there any useful abilities that pair well with rolling advantage on your attack rolls (like reckless attack for barbarians)

@Skyler rolling advantage pairs really well with attack rolls, tbh

@DForck42 I've heard it synergizes well with bashing skulls and cleaving heads.

@Skyler yes, yes it does

@Skyler Great Weapon master or Sharpshooter with the -5 to hit for +10 damage

I can't really think of any ability with an attack roll that doesn't pair well with advantage, it's just an all around awesome thing to have as much as possible.
I realize "all of them" isn't a very useful answer. But I would say all of them.

8:32 PM
@Adam basically

@Adam like sneak attack is always activated when you have advantage on an attack (with the right weapons)

that's why I'm not doing flanking in my game, I feel that it causes combat to be too static

@DForck42 as someone who does use flanking - i kinda of wish we didn't.

Yeah, but that isn't really "pairing well" that's "is a prerequisite"

GWM is another good example that really works quite well
@Adam or being adjacent to your targets mutual foe

8:34 PM
But to be a bit less nebulous, Divine smite is a good one, since advantage means more crits, and once you crit you can choose to smite

@Adam true, good point

@Skyler so you're looking more about what triggers when you have advantage (like sneak attack) pre-requisite and trigger are kinda the same?
or just things you can do more easily with advantage (crit fishing, divine smiting, GWM/SS, etc?)

@NautArch Basically I'm curious what particularly good effects are hiding behind advantage rolls
I dont mind hearing about others but I know about most of those already
so triggers with advantage

The fell handed feat gives you some extra bonus if you have advantage on the attack roll
specifically, you get to knock a dude prone if both dice rolled were hits.

@Skyler this could be an interesting quetsion to ask on the site. It's going to take some reserach, but it'd be a nice thing to have on file.

8:39 PM
It also has a similar effect for disadvantage where you can deal some damage if the higher of the two would hit, but the lower wouldn't

@Adam I'd thought about grabbing that feat when i level up, but after my DM gave me a +3 halberd, i kinda have to get Polearm Master.
which will pair with Sentinel, GWM, and my vengeance paladin ability. kaboom. Too bad 16 is mighty far away (just hit 15)

@DForck42 Agreed. I've played with it and without it. Without is much for fun.

I wasnt sure if this question would get closed for being more discussion
You know what I mean?

@Skyler I can see it being too broad, or looking for suggestions

i dunno, that's pretty specific. What abilities/feats are triggered on Advantage?

8:52 PM
I think the worst that it has going for it is that it's a list generating question, and I'm not sure how much the stack likes those

@Adam That depends on if it is a finite or infinite list

i want to say i've seen them before
but it's defintiely a finite list

Infinite lists tend not to go well, but finite lists are fine

I'm really liking the answers Rubiksmoose has been writing. great newcomer to the site.

A: Negative Aspect Compels: How often is too often?

BESWSummary: Negative aspects are easy "push button here" dispensers for Fate points, but spamming that button needlessly is boring at best. Two things need to be kept in mind: drama, and the Fate point economy. Being stymied or drained of Fate points by the same problem over and over isn't dramatic...

9:00 PM
@NautArch Speaking of which, do you really retain feats after being true polymorphed?

9:15 PM
@eimyr It's been my experience that spending my GM fate points makes the game better than not spending them, provided I'm not forcing the issue--just taking advantage of whatever opportunities come up. If I don't use my fate points, the PCs usually get cocky: the numbers are balanced assuming I'm pushing difficulties up as appropriate, so if I'm not doing that then the players don't feel challenged.
> During the game, you should look for opportunities to compel the PCs’ aspects at the following times:
- Whenever simply succeeding at a skill roll would be bland
- Whenever any player has one or no fate points
- Whenever someone tries to do something, and you immediately think of some aspect-related way it could go wrong

@Adam yeah, i'm not so sure on that one. But he updated his answer to NO, which I generally agree with. True polymorph is an entirely different creature.

1 hour later…
10:27 PM
@NautArch that's very puny

@DForck42 i swear i didn't mean to do that
but i'm damned proud of it

@NautArch lol

11:02 PM
i was once petsitting a salamander and i asked the owner what its name was and he said 'they have names but they don't share them with us'

Ben
Interesting how I have ~20k over on gaming.se, but I prefer to hang out here

user15026
@Ben Not every chat works for every person :)

user15026
@BESW I find this incredibly charming in it's way

@Ben Puny is a word, even if your puny vocabulary is too puny to include it :P

@Ben punny: adjective pun·ny \ ˈpə-nē \ : constituting or involving a pun. punnier; punniest

Ben
11:17 PM
@Miniman That is the counterpoint - and hence why it's the grammar-nazi, not the 4th-grade English teacher lol
@BESW well that gives me the freedom to say "rage away, little man!" haha
I was going to do some work on my game last night - but I didn't have interwebs so I just played minecraft instead
I did get my Corruption system sorted though. At 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 the total dual stat count, the PCs incur +-1, 2 and 3 to their stat checks.
(Also added some fun little descriptions)

@BESW that is downright hilarious

Ben
Question - if you were a skeleton... would you be... tired? I don't think so... you'd just... not want to do anything.

What is the distinction you are making?

Ben
11:33 PM
Necrotic corruption - your bones creak and jolt a bit as you move (-1 dex checks) but you don't feel the cold anymore (+1 con checks)
As a skeleton - if there's nothing that has their attention, they'd be quite happy just standing about. Not sleeping, because they don't need to, but they'd have no desire to do anything really
I'm just trying to understand it because it could be useful when describing it to the players

Hey, I just discovered something cool! If you edit a question to include a tag, your tag badge privilege doesn't apply to that question.
SE constantly shows how much thought it puts into stuff.

Say tag badge privelige 5 times fast
No? OK I shut up now
XD

user15026
@trogdor The shift from tag -> badge is hard because they have different "g" sounds

@trogdor Tag badge privilege Tag badge privilege Tag badge privilege Tag badge privilege Tag badge privilege
Boom.

@Miniman cheater!!!!

11:45 PM
@trogdor What do you mean?

@Miniman [sneaky cheats] :D

@Ash indeed @Miniman you know full well

If you ask someone to say something, it'd be pretty rude of them to say it in a completely different medium that you can't even hear.

also would be impolite to befungle what it was they wrote

I mean, if we were in the same room, having a conversation, and you asked me that, you wouldn't want me to say it in chat here, right?

11:49 PM
@Miniman you win this round gadget
Now say moon ring fockels
No I didn't just randomly pilfer the star bar, why do you ask?

@doppelgreener Yes, it would be incredibly rude to edit someone's words, wouldn't it?

Ben
@trogdor Say "the truth shall set you free"

@Miniman Yes

Ben
Don't have to say it repeatedly. Even the first iteration can catch you up haha

Not that anyone did that

11:51 PM
@doppelgreener Aw, I wanted to see what you'd edit that to :(

@Ben hey you, no horning in on my territory XP

Ben
@trogdor [trots around with a bugle]

@doppelgreener It took me a moment to figure out what you did there XD

Two gadgets in a row today, good thing I have two metal claw fists to shake at them both

11:54 PM
@trogdor What do you mean by gadgets? Inspector Gadgets?

@Miniman yes

@trogdor For some reason the idea of Inspector Gadget not being unique is kinda scary.
Like, I'm imagining an army of Inspector Gadgets marching menacingly.

I started calling @nitsua60 gadget every time he out punned me
@Miniman each one is unique though
All the more reason to shake metal claw hands at them all

Ben
So... my friend recently bought a pack of candy, that apparently turns your tongue blue due to some kind of chemical reaction (the candy itself is yellow). I asked them if they had tried them yet, to why they replied "No, I don't have the apatite"
My response was
"I didn't realise you needed any kind of special minerals for this... though that might explain why it turns your tongue blue"
