This article highlights something that I think should be part of any attempt I make to express solarpunk in a setting or game:
> The creation of beautiful things [...] as part and parcel of building a fairer, kinder world. [...] A shared egalitarian social undertaking, ideally, ought to be one of joy as well as struggle: in these desperate times, there are certainly more overwhelming imperatives than making the world beautiful to look at, but to decline to make the world more beautiful when it’s in your power to so, or to destroy some beautiful thing without need, is a grotesque perversion of the cooperative ideal.

hey there @KorvinStarmast

Hello Shalvenay

how're things going?

Long day, neighbor wants to split rebuilding fence. She cut her tree down, it fell into our yard. Snort.
No damage to the house, so I are not worried.

ah

Been eating too much Whataburger, though, so that's damage to my body. :p

1:03 AM
send her to lumberjack 101? :P

Nah, the guys she hired to do it just made a slight mis estimation. No blood, no foul.

ah :p

And we've needed to replace that 28 year old fence ... so it's all for the better.
Hmm, I timed out, not sure what happened there. Off to feed the dogs. Best wishes to all! :)

Playable characters for that Lackadaisy card game I was on about the other day. (I'll share more about game availability soon!)

Last weekend I discovered that @MotW_rpg mystery sheets are a great level of prep. I ran it mostly unexpected—for the first time in over 1.5 years—using a mystery sheet I created in 2015. Game ran very smoothly. Just a few NPCs, a monster, and a couple events to use as needed

@BESW oh my
cats with guns
the apocalypse is upon us

1:38 AM
It's a webcomic about Prohibition, but with cats instead of people. @doppelspooker likes it and has thoughts about running a game inspired by it, I believe.

mm
it has nice art for sure
for some reason I never thought of prohibition cats, go figure
there are still new things

An interesting take on the early D&D cleric. Reminds me that the hand-wringing we currently do (and, frankly, always have done) over rangers and "what is this thing" isn't unique to that class.

3:24 AM
hey there @nitsua60

ahoy

how're things going?

Oh--I had a question for you. Do you know who "owns" the discord server we're on? Is it yours? (The one we used for DW:Ashur and 5e:Brothers of the Mind.)

@nitsua60 it's BESWs

Gotcha--thanks.

3:27 AM
@Shalvenay If BESW is already a plurality, BESWs is a frightening thought.

@BESW lulz

@BESW Pronounced like "beeswax"?

hey there @RobertF

Beeswarm
:P

Mind your own beeswarm!

3:41 AM
I'll mind whichever beeswarm I want

Beeswar!

One of the first people to try saying BESW out loud decided it's pronounced beez-yoo.

beeswa is now the only language anyone is allowed to talk in

Or possibly bee-zoo, which is more appropriate to the hivemind interpretation.

I pronounce it "bessuw." At least, that's the closest I can write it. Maybe "beszuw."

3:49 AM
you guys are weirdo's I don't pronounce it at all I just spell it

@BESW I pronunce it "Be-E-Es-Ve"

@trogdor Yes, well, you have a more speakable name to use for me and most of these folks don't.

yes :P

@Trish na klar =)

@nitsua60 says the Sherson ;)
at least you're not a singular sheeple :P

3:52 AM
I've got sheeple =)
Actually, the family three houses up the road keeps sheep. They're pretty [weird].

@nitsua60 I would be worried if the sheep were [wired]... or the people on the cover of the [Wired Magazine]

yes... those sheep

@Shalvenay Hi Shalvenay, how's it going

For the sake of the townsfolk lets hope it's more E.T. and less Attack the Block.

Being Italian, I'm encountering lots of trouble while trying to transliterate how I instinctively pronounce "BESW".
It's like "best", but with a v (only the consonant, no vowel sounds) at the end. And maybe the e is more like the e in Beth.

10:18 AM
@Zachiel /bɛsf/

@eimyr no, more like the v in "vain" or in "virus"

the good old retainer/army problem...
I know I will face it duing my adventure (in TDE 4th) at some time, but I think I will handle it as "Pooled HP" - take the standard HP of a peep, reduce by 10 (when a person hits 5 it goes unconscious, so 10 is usually life threatening and they retreat from the battle line or get exchanged). Then multiply by the number of people in the group for abstract, floating group HP. For each "single peep HP" reduced, one is thrown out of the battle line.
Thing is, how to do all the 10, 20, 50 attacks of such a battle group faster? Just roll at max 10 attacks, then multiply the successful attacks by the number of full groups?

12:28 PM
for comparison: standard human has ca 30 hp, orcs are about 32 hp, so pretty much the same. A veteran (skill 12) hits on a 15 or lower, a trained soldier (skill 8) on a 12, a militiaman (skill 5) on a 10. They parry on 11/10/9, probably with a -1 or -2 depending on the weapon.
A newbie ork hits on 13, defends on 6 or 8 (depending on weapon), trained ones hit on 15, defend on 9-10 (att 14 and parry 13 with shield), and Elite Orcs got Attack 18-19 with parry 13-15....
in mean, an orc does (no matter of training) 1d6+5<+/-1>, the same as a human with a helebard.
(yes, TDE is very simulationist)...
Does a battle line properly do parades?
Or should I include the formation bonus on the side of the humans, as they do often have that special skill?

12:50 PM
Formation allows everybody to parry not only the one directly attacking him but instead parry an attack aimed to his right/left neighbor, basically allowing every soldier to roll a parry as long as about 1/3rd of the orcs hit... and statistically that would be true (as 10 attack is a 50% chance...

1:24 PM
@doppelspooker @nitsua60 uhm, for version specific questions, would the tag be or ?

1:41 PM
@Trish 4.1e
it's dnd-4e rather than dnd-4th-e, etc

roger... I hope my Statistics question is not too broad...

it is far too early in the [checks clock] saturday afternoon for me to mentally process that question, so it at least isn't going to get a diamond close vote from me right now

2:03 PM
it is 3 PM in civilized countries ;)

@Trish britain is one hour too uncivilised

Using UTC is not uncivilized... having had the habbit of selling opium to fund tea is.

@Trish If we want to dig into each civilization's history of barbarism and [cultural] genocide and sin--which is fine to talk about--I will suggest that it go in the Not A Bar.

since from some perspective we are all barbarians... better not.

If we want to dig into time zones, I suggest we review BESW's imminently-reasonable suggested reform:
Jun 2 '16 at 0:58, by BESW
Instead of using different times based on geographic location, use different times zones based on what the time is related to. Physicists all over the world measure observations in the same time zone, but when they watch a movie it starts in the entertainment time zone.
