@BESW why would you not do this?

2:00 AM
hey there @Eidolon108

hello @Shalvenay, how goes it

alright here, double-checking to see if I have a 5e session tomorrow night xD also, pondering yet another game world xD
also been thinking that there's a problem in the way we abstract RPGs these days
basically, points in narrative space have a potential that depends on time
and that right there makes things nonconservative in a vector-calculus sense
so the results you get from following two different paths to the same point are different, and ISTM that many systems these days are trying to sweep that under the rug if you will\

2:23 AM
what kind of systems enforce that, narratively? Basically all I've played is 5e and GURPS so i'm curious what you mean

2:41 AM
@Eidolon108 it can happen in a wide variety of systems...it may even be a system-agnostic issue

2:53 AM
@Shalvenay ...what? I'm about to start a class so can't get into it, but my attempt to interpret calculus jargon into RPG concepts yields a meaning which is exactly inverse to my experience.
I've been given to understand that physics equations may yield the same result regardless of the direction of their time variable, but that's basically irrelephant to RPGs as a medium. Stories are not reducible to physics.

i think he means how you reach a certain point in time in an RPG matters, because if you take a different path you acquire other things that matter narratively
but i'm still working on this cup of coffee

@Eidolon108 exactly!

The experience of time passing, rather than the end state one reaches, is largely the point of stories and doubly so for RPGs. So, please, give specific examples of a mechanic which values the end-state of the story over the process of playing toward that stat.
If it's systemic to the medium, Shirley there are specific examples you can invoke.

@Ben Sorry I wasn't around--Adventurer's League tonight. But ping me any time, or I'll gladly chime in if you bring the question to Meta (as Miniman suggested).

hey there @nitsua60

hi

5:11 AM
Anyone know some decently cheap isometric graph paper? I've found prices so far as low as about 0.60 USD per sheet. This is a bit pricey...
I'm not looking for such high quality that I could keep it in a binder for 50 years or anything either, just decent isometric graph paper.
Ooh, and, standard letter size (8.5 * 11 inch) or A4, any orientation, preferred about .25in or 5mm grid size. Count shipping to continental US unless it's Amazon Prime-able.
I'd put this as a proper question but I have no clue what SE site, if any, it would go on.

@Papayaman1000 How good does it have to be? For personal use I usually just print my own: incompetech.com/graphpaper

5:30 AM
@nitsua60 I was considering that but it would necessitate a Kinko's run, which might be more expensive than buying some from an office supplier or somesuch.

6:01 AM
Worth a call to Kinko's for pricing, at least.

@Heda Hi! You'll need 20+ rep to type in chat, but you're welcome to hang out until then.

10:35 AM
something is weird with my site shortcuts in my browser:

@doppelgreener I have no frame of reference for this.

@Powerdork well, the RPG chat shouldn't be titled "JEFF", mainly, i think
4

@doppelgreener You mean it's not like that normally{?}

@Powerdork Yes! It may come as a surprise, but normally it is just "RPG General Chat".
It's quite reasonable to be confused about that, of course.

What, you didn't know the chat's first name?

10:49 AM
@BESW I didn't!

Jeffrey Chat. Jeffrey "RPG General" Chat.

Q: What is the best way to respond to an incorrect answer when a comment is not enough?

ProtonfluxI just had an answer to the question What can someone do while forced to doff armor from the heat metal spell removed, with the suggestion that it might be better as a comment. I initially started writing the response as a comment on an answer that had a significantly incorrect part to it. Howev...

@BESW @trogdor @Shalvenay an answer you were (reasonably) critical of has been edited--might be worth a second look?

9:18 PM
@nitsua60 fair enough

Uh-oh, @SevenSidedDie is answering in comments =(
=D

@nitsua60 Moment of insanity! On the plus side, on closer inspection the question's actually fine — it just had cruft that made it look like a sales pitch. Edited!
