Ben
6:00 AM
d100 is that main die used in the game
(percentile?)

Anyway. Gotta go to sleep.
Then I am going to wake up, and continue thinking on how to perfect this thing.

Ben
Ciao

@doppelgreener, thanks for reminding me of Dungeon World. I had completely forgotten that existed.
@Ben, thank you for remembering me.
@Pixie and @HadesHerald, just thank you.

Ben
All good :)

Anytime!

Ben
6:35 AM
Does the term "Changeling" ring any bells for anyone?

yeah

[cough] i wouldn't, uuh [cough cough] know what that is

XD

Ben
Ok. That's easy then
What would you suggest is the best way to identify one?
I do realise the irony in that

uh, you generally couldn't unless they started exhibiting powers I would think

6:40 AM

Ben
@trogdor My thoughts also.

I can't give away trade secrets.

Ben
@doppelgreener unfortunately, while I do realise this is intended to be some form of joke, I'm at the end of my workday and linking A to B is a tad difficult for me at the moment :P

@Ben Well, if you happy to see the same person twice at the same time, I'd suggest there would be something afoot.

Ben
@Nyoze My spidey senses are tingling...

6:42 AM
I'm glad you are. My internet is running too slow to tingle :(

@Ben it is a joke about him being one

Ben
And I actually laughed when you said that.
What about smells or perhaps behaviours? Just how real is the transformation? Are we talking skin deep, or full Zygon?

(yes the joke is that i am a green doppelganger)

Ben
cc @doppelgreener, got a response from beyond blue, and they have said unfortunately that is not their area. They suggested Men's Line instead.
@doppelgreener Arr. Hurr hurr. I get things.

@Ben nuts. something specific about the issue, or do they just not deal with requests regarding helping others?

Ben
6:56 AM
@doppelgreener "It sounds like you care tremendously about your friends mental health and well being and are looking for guidance on how to best approach the situation. As our service focuses specifically on giving advice relating to treatments and strategies to manage depression and anxiety your questions do not fit within the scope of our service."

@Ben "Changeling" means lots of different things depending on context.

Ben
@BESW D&D 5e

Then I can't help, I dunno their lore.

@Ben Ok, thank you. :)

Ben
@BESW What are you familiar with? It might be useful, depending.

6:59 AM
@Ben I am glad they pointed you somewhere useful.

Ben
@doppelgreener Thankyou for starting me off somewhere :)

That helps. As with dragons, changelings are a mythical being/fictional creature and their rules change considerably depending upon interpretation. But yeah, I don't know about them in 5e.

Plus there's the original folk-lore and mythological changelings alone! (that being the second thing BESW said)

@Ben I suspect 5e's version is the boring "shapeshifter who specialises in pretending to be other people" thing, instead of the much more drama-prone (and more traditional) "person who thinks he's human but is actually a fairy who was swapped with a human when they were both babies."

As I'm familiar with them in 3.5, they are way different from like the usual mythological changeling. I do not know whether this has changed or not between then and 5e.

Ben
7:00 AM
Well. Goes to show my ignorance haha

(With the attendant "fairy who's really a human that got swapped as a baby" counterpart living somewhere.)

[suddenly having fond memories of Harold, the troll changeling]

Yeah, the Dresden Files setting adheres more closely to the traditional "cuckoo" concept.
@doppelgreener Yanno, any of our DFAE PCs could easily show up in the Amaterasu setting.

@BESW They could, it's true!

Ben
Quuuuestion......
How do Changelings breed...?

7:03 AM
@Ben Privately.

Ben
I should certainly hope.
Maybe I'll ask the DM (and likely get a similar response haha). We came across a giant Changeling nest in our game recently, full off Changeling eggs.

Sometimes monster manuals detail species genesis, but I don't have 5e's. That'd be the best place to look, though.

Ben
True. I'll look into it
And there we have it (or at least part)
> Changelings. Doppelgangers are too lazy or selfinterested to raise their young. They assume attractive male forms and seduce women, leaving them to raise their progeny. A doppelganger child appears to be a normal member of its mother's species until it reaches adolescence, at which point it discovers its true nature and is driven to seek out its kind to join them.

In traditional mythology, changelings aren't a race/species. They're displaced individuals with environment-modified phenotypic plasticity.

@doppelgreener I originally thought that was what your joke was about XD

Ben
7:07 AM
@BESW Big Words.

@Ben They grow up different than their parents because of the changed conditions they grew up in.

Ben
@BESW Are you saying they're just abnormalities? Mutants?
Ohhh...
A bit like the traditional term "Alien"

@trogdor oh right XD

but your name makes sense too

7:11 AM
Its genes don't change at all, and its seeds will grow like the modern grass if you put it in modern conditions again.
Obviously traditional changeling myths don't draw on scientific principles like phenotype, but my impression of the basic concept is that it works similarly.

Ben

A human raised in fairyland will wind up being more fey, and a fairy raised in human lands will wind up being more human, than mere cultural changes can explain.
But they won't become totally the other creature.

@Ben So, if it clarifies, Harold, a character I played: He's a traditional changeling. His parents were trolls, which are usually enormous and absolutely hideous looking. At some point, for whatever reason the fey have, he was swapped out for a human baby. He was in his early twenties in our game. He was very tall (like seven feet or so), very muscular, and impressively resilient to harm.
At some point, well before Harold learned about trolls even existing, he got gored by a boar trying to stop it in its tracks. He was fine, shook it off, and continued fighting the boars. He concluded afterwards he must be superman!

Ben
That would definitely be an interesting life to live!

It was a hilarious way to take it seeing as everyone at the table knew there was a different reason for it

7:16 AM
He was just a DJ in a small modern tropical island community that was also a fairly good place for tourists to visit and relax.

It was also the headquarters for a mainland organised crime organisation.

Ben
What a twist!

At some point, I can't remember what it was, there was an intense life-or-death situation, and in desperation to survive, his trollish nature began to pour out - he grew bigger, stronger, a bit uglier. He was becoming a half-troll, and it helped him survive what was going on.

Ben
Now I think about it, I do have vague memories of this sort of behaviour occurring in stories before. (No specific memories of when or where)

Harold later met an actual troll, and learned something about his heritage. Had the game continued further, he may have even had to make The Choice, something all changelings must do soon after reaching adulthood (it was about time he made it, too).
The Choice was this: to become completely a troll, no longer human at all, and lose all free will. (Because Fey do not have free will.) Or, become just a normal human, and lose all trollishness entirely, forever, but keep his free will.
The Choice is Dresden Files lore, I don't know if it relates to traditional changeling folk lore.
I still do not know what Harold would have chosen.
Harold and a couple of other people were trying to keep two people alive and safe from a wizard who had come to the island for the express purpose of killing those two people, because they'd dabbled in forbidden magic. (They didn't even know their own nature let alone it being forbidden, but the court of wizards does not really care about details like that.)
The events that transpired in doing so took him from a fairly ordinary world into confronting a suddenly fairly magical one in which certain wizards get appointed to hunt and kill certain other wizards, in which trolls exist, and in which he was a troll since birth.

7:30 AM
it was actually a pretty great short campaign

It was fantastic and short, yeah. :)

to be fair, it was a system that was still being tested
but it was still great

Yes. We did this as part of the Dresden Files for Fate Accelerated playtest.

I think we all had pretty great characters and some surprising interaction between them

We did! Let's see... We had Harold, a mafia gangster fire elementalist, Ben's character was a wizard who'd committed the crime of performing mind magic, you and Ira played a samurai and wuxia ninja who'd been pulled back out of the aether by Certain Powerful People With Plans and assigned to guard the mind wizard.... I can't remember clearly who Raycia played though.

7:38 AM
she talked to objects
sorta anyway

7:52 AM
Aha right :D

Oh YES

And Edgar was doing something to help her calm down that ability.
@AlexMitan Hello!

ISPs are dumb, you guys
I managed to get here almost accidentally
How is everyone?

ISPs are dumb, but a necessary evil :(

Ooo, Dresden Files Accelerated???

7:54 AM
I'm good. Trying to decide if becoming a lich is actually viable for a pathfinder player, or if it's just there for GMs to abuse.

Wait, I don't mean to be rude, but I need to go for a bit, I'm just so glad I managed to get to this chat again

Cya :)

8:16 AM
Okay, I'm back
I swear, being too lazy to cook is going to be the death of me
What's a lich like in PF?

8:28 AM
Uhh...
Undead, so you use Cha instead of Con.

Btw, @BESW, I had another one of those eye-opening moments last night... previously I had told my to-be Fate group that I'm going to want, at least at first, vaguely humanoid characters, but now I'm not so sure... in one of the EF "episodes" BESW plays a cat, communicating fully non-verbally in what seemed to be a very enjoyable session... now I'm not even sure if asking my players to have "vaguely inteligent and capable of speech" characters is restricting them too much...
@Nyoze I mean what is there for the GM to abuse

@Alex Exactly this. Removing a stat completely - specificially a stat which is only used for defensive purposes - and tying it to a stat that's already one of the most used is absolutely insane.
This means you can actually focus a sorcerer into dumping everything he owns into one stat, and still actually be able to take a hit.

Oh.. okay, is there a character class like that in PF? I'm only kinda sorta familiar with 5e

It's not a character class, it's a template which can be applied by crafting a specific item, but... It's more there for flavour, to help create NPCs, but I'm curious if theres any room there for player development without breaking everything.
@Alex I'm in the same boat with 5e. I kinda understand and appreciate the system, but... No experience at all.
If the PHB was available online, I'd be more interested. As it is, I don't have enough money to buy books I don't know I'll use :(

Well I quit d20, but it still fascinates me in some regards, and I'm always interested in finding out how X or Y works in stuff

8:36 AM
Why quit? :(

@AlexMitan In our atomic robo game, @BESW has played a small dog called, I think, Precious. She is a health and well-being inspector who makes sure Weird creatures living among humans are being treated OK.
Stellata may yet contact her one day for help if something gets out of hand. Stellata isn't very well adjusted to the outside world but doesn't know it and thinks she's probably fine. Precious has probably noticed.

@Nyoze Myriad of problems that I find objectively inherent with d20, but it also just didn't suit our group
@doppelgreener That's awesome... I feel like I'd be restricting my players if I told them anything about what I'd prefer they played
Which again, is just "capable of speech, at least kind of intelligent"

Ahh... Yeah, I get that.

@Nyoze Mainly the large amount of missing that happened, both with attacks and limited spells, the bookkeeping, menu-picking, binary failure/succeed that is up to luck and can't be mitigated post-roll, uninteresting lethality, incredibly large amounts of prep to the point where it felt like studying, too much attention to details that we in particular didn't care about...etc

@Alex It depends on what type of game you're trying to play? While I'd love the chance to play as a cat one day, which I would define as extremely intelligent, if not talking... I'm not so sure that it's a bad thing not to allow such a thing, if at least to assure familiarity for everyone with each others concepts.

8:42 AM
But the worst offender was probably how my players had original characters in mind that I kind of had to force into the existing class stereotypes

I'm guilty of forcing existing class stereotypes to develop characters... I do tend to focus more on mechanics then flavour though :(

@Nyoze I'm going to GM my first non-twosie game, I want some characters that are a bit easier to manage... the moment I become more secure my players can play dry-land jellyfish or toothpaste golems or self-engineering abominations whenever they want

Toothpaste golem... Please forgive me if I steal this one day.

@Nyoze I got really pissed when my best friend had this great semi-sorcerous rogue concept for her character, but she had to wait until LEVEL THREE to get magic and be anywhere near her idea... the game unravelled, crashed and burned at level two. She never got this chance until we played Fate, where she did everything she wanted with her char at chargen

Speaking of odd characters... @doppelgreener Did you guys ever end up using that funky coloured crystal dragon NPC?

8:47 AM
@Nyoze Hah, of course.. Random thought... the first time I mentioned Fate to another one of my friends, she instantly went "Oooh, can I play an ice-cream-shaped neural parasite stuck on a dog's head?" "...Well yeah, I guess" "Hahah-wait really?"

@Nyoze that just gave me an interesting idea... getting in a magical girl themed game and then when all the other player have planed their chars, you ask to roleplay... Kyubey

A'ight, I'm off
Cya tomorrow

See you!

9:22 AM
Does anyone have some articles on doing better and more engaging descriptions and such?

9:59 AM
Spirit Of The Century has "five to eight stress boxes"??
Seriously?

10:39 AM
(and in the meantime I just found again that video from the Stare Master episode modified to play the Luffy Moukou music in the background during the cockatrice scene - as always, that is just marvelous, I will have to edit it someday to add the original voices instead of the Spanish ones.)

11:21 AM
finally almost have vtc rights

@SPArchaeologist THANK YOU SO MUCH!

@doppelgreener @AlexMitan: Captain's Fancy Valentine Sweetheart is a Neurotic black ops social worker who is always happiest when There’s a protocol for that and firmly believes that Things need reasons! She's an Uplifted Canadian sled dog who is slowly learning Setting a good example is thankless work.

@Miniman you never saw Haki-Fluttershy before? :P

@SPArchaeologist Nah, not that. Thanks for giving me the title for that track so I can finally search for it.

There are even theories that claim that the reference to haki was intentional.
sadly, as I said, it use the Spanish dub which somehow ruins Fluttershy voice.

11:52 AM
@BESW I knew Precious was miles off the mark XD
so close, yet no cigar.
(because cigars are a health hazard and against safety regulations)

Well, yes. If you're going to smoke your nasty-smelling cancersticks, you have to be at least 50 feet from any government buildings and public walkways.
[wags charmingly to take the sting out]
(I get +2 when citing policy to create advantages with Rapport!)

@Nyoze We have Plans, and he is definitely going to see use. Only, it will be after our impending space travel plot arc.
@AlexMitan One of the Fate Core stock NPCs is a gorilla. Don't know if he can talk, he'd probably do fine as a character without it.

@AlexMitan Yeah, the ability to create aspects is a major boon in effectively communicating to players what a non-verbal character is on about.

@BESW Ooh, that's smart

in Fate chat and game room, May 21 '13 at 12:24, by BESW
Trouble rubs up against the man, trying to Flashily create an advantage like "I'm a Nice, Hungry Kitty."

11:59 AM
I keep thinking about Bob from Dresden files... He CAN talk, but he has some difficulty emoting.. you know, lack of muscle, skin tissue, etc
@BESW Yeah, I've read that, that's what even got me thinking! That was so brilliant!

@BESW does your cat get a bonus for citing policy too?

@AlexMitan The whole point of Trouble was to experiment with this sort of stretching to see how far the ideas can go.

also it's 25 feet from building entrances here

"Somewhat intelligent" and "sapient" are probably the minimum requirements, because the heroes need to be proactive competent people leading dramatic lives. It's harder to have those things when you're a squirrel. For a confident fate player I wouldn't extend any minimum requirements - they'll know what works and won't need any.

(I was partially inspired by someone in a blog post mentioning that a guy in their DFRPG campaign said, "Can I be an enchanted sword?" and they were able to make it work easily.)

12:02 PM
@BESW Yeah, but both you and the GM had more experience than we'll have, so I was thinking of keeping it a bit more verbal at first...?

@AlexMitan Up to you.
For the record, (I think) that was my first ever Fate PC.

I mean I figure I'd need more easily manageable PCs for my very first game
Oh, really????

And it was Brian's first (or second?) ever time GMing for Fate.

You NEVER PC'd in Fate before?

Nope. I'm usually a GM.

12:04 PM
Huh, ok.. both you and Brian seemed like you had a bunch of experience PC/GMing, respectively

@BESW I would imagine Dog to have both those qualities, even if he's a dummy.

Heh.
Brian GMing, yes.
Me as a PC? Less so.

Oh wait you meant the Squirrel! thing XD

hahaha

I GET IT.

12:05 PM
@doppelgreener Half-Life Dog? It's been a while since I last thought of that adorable dork

I mean, I'd done it, but the vast majority of my RPG experience (prior to my current group being comfortable handing off GMing casually) is as a GM.

@AlexMitan Dog, from Up. The image BESW posted.
Oh wait his name's Dug!

Doug.
I think.

okay XD

Nope, it's Dug. You're right.

12:06 PM
I checked also!
it is a WRITING JOKE

@BESW Well, sure, but now that I think about it it isn't that strange, you had a bunch of NPCs that you played, and I have a feeling Fate GMing feels more like an altered PC playing than in other games

Fate GMing feels a little bit more like playing than some other games, Fate playing feels a little bit more like GMing than other games. :)

How'd playing a PC feel, @BESW?

It was kinda weird going from D&D PC to Fate PC.
I mean, aside from suddenly being a cat.

Morning

12:10 PM
Hah!
Good morning, Aaron

I was still used to trying to make the best possible choices to minimise conflicts the GM was putting in front of me.
These days, Jessie will happily whip out her Time Gun and shoot a broken time portal, or insult the interior decorating taste of something with a lava pit.

Heh, alright, why do you feel you did that?

Did what?
@Aaron [wave]

Minimise conflicts

Because it's the player's job in D&D.
The GM's job is to create challenges for the PCs, and the player's job is to solve them with minimal resource expenditure and greatest personal benefit to the PCs.
I'd spent ~6 years in that paradigm on both sides of the table.

12:13 PM
So I have been recruited to run a game for a fundraising thing. Does anyone know a really good fun module that can be run in 3-4 hours? Pathfinder preferably but 3.5 would be ok as well, I can just convert it.

Oh, okay... That's interesting, because Sin(Sin, right?) was kind of doing the same thing at first, I feel

@AlexMitan Yup, she was.
And I recognised it in her player, but recognising it wasn't the same as being able to keep myself from doing it too.
Oh, man, I'd forgotten how beautiful Trouble's aspects are.
I'm seriously proud of those.
> Aspect: People are Stupid
Aspect: Underfoot
Aspect: Is That Food?

=))
That is amazing
What does Underfoot even mean?

It means that, like most cats, he's got a talent for being exactly where you're trying to step.
Invoke for tripping, spying, being right there. Compel for getting kicked, stepped on, noticed at the wrong time.

Oh god, I'm choking laughing, this is superb
I'm always expecting these deep, wise aspects that would need a think-tank of Athenian philosophers to ponder upon, and "Underfoot" is one of the best [snip]ing ones I've ever heard

12:22 PM
They really are great. You did a good job with those @BESW.

@AlexMitan I started thinking about aspects similarly.
I'm still really learning how to make good aspects consistently, but generally "just say a thing" is the best advice I can give.
The important thing about aspects, I've found from experience, is that they're easy to understand: you need the GM and the player to both be able to glance at them in play and quickly know if they're useful.

Just needs a weakness to laser pointers
2

12:41 PM
@Tashio Ah, yeah, a common hindrance in the Enchanted Forest
@BESW I know I'm still in the theory phase but I want to at least kind of be ready for my game... I need some help with a question
Does "roll for your attack value, and it gets triggered later" work decently to support the idea of "I'll leave this harmful thing here and do something else"

Hrmmm.
There are so many ways you can do that.

Let's take a very basic example.. d'you ever play Dishonored?

Off the top of my head:
- Use Create Advantage to lay down an aspect that justifies your ability to actively attack when you're not in the scene.
- Create a fractal with its own aspect(s) and skill(s) to describe the trap, letting it attack on its own.
- Associate the trap with a passive opposition difficulty.
- Let the GM describe effects of the off-screen carnage when next you enter the room.

There's a thing in that game like a small razor mine, it's not high explosive, it's barely even explosive, but when triggered by proximity it lashes out a bunch of shrapnel that maims someone... or another kind that just stuns someone non-lethally
I think the third option works better, maybe 2nd if the character is very into this kind of thing

I'd be inclined to go for the first.

12:50 PM
Simplicity?

@BESW And call the aspect "Chekhov's Gun Maker"?

I like it too, but I want, excuse the cliche, the mechanics to support the narrative of a "fire and forget" kind of tactic

Simplicity (it's the least mechanical change from normal play) and agency and interaction: having the player roll their dice and be an active part of a scene they'd normally have to sit out of.
@AlexMitan The player is involved, not the PC.

As in "Okay, that's just a Mediocre mine, you don't have time" or "Yep, a Superb mine, you needn't worry about much surviving that particular entrance"

It reflects the PC's ability to impose agency by controlling scenes they aren't actively part of.

12:53 PM
@BESW Exactly... But the player still has to resolve an action that I feel would feel better if it were worked on prior, and resolved quickly afterwards

But, really, there's no best option until you're staring at the situation in play.
@AlexMitan Then... here's how I'd do it.
"Okay, you've placed the aspect shrapnel mine on the doorway using your Gadgets skill, with one free invoke. The next character to walk through that door is going to have to use Athletics to defend against an attack equal to your Gadgets skill plus two (for the free invoke), and then the aspect's gone."

Hm, okay, that's quite good! So basically treating the roll as a 0?

Yeah.

(the attack roll)
I was actually messing around boredly about stunts that allow you to declare a roll to be 0 either before or after it's done

Hmm.
I'd be more wary of those if I hadn't seen the truly ridiculous dice manipulation stunts in ARRPG.

12:59 PM
Those ones are fun.

"THERE ARE NO RULES"?

> THERE ARE NO RULES: Once per scene, when you invoke one of your aspects, instead of getting a bonus or a reroll, you may swap out a Fate die for a regular six-sided die.
THE MAGNIFICENT THREE: When using a Science skill, if exactly three of your dice show the same result, you get a boost for free. For example, +++0 would get you a free boost, as would ---+ or 000-, but not ++++, ----, or 0000.
GOD PLAYS DICE: When you invoke an aspect to reroll a Science skill, roll six Fate dice and keep the best four Fate dice for your result.

(Can someone with Anydice skills figure out what "God plays dice" does to the bell curve?)

lemme try
Oh. Well it's not that bad if I'm not mistaken

1:04 PM
Wow. Every point on the curve moves a tiny amount, but the curve itself jumps two points up the ladder.

"There are no rules" is crazy though, maybe a d4 or once-a-session would be closer, but then again I have zero experience with ARRPG

Well.
A good stunt averages to roughly a Fate point per scene.

Well yes, but No Rules increases the average by 3.5

And here's the thing: usage counts.
When will you use No Rules?

...Once per scene, whenever things aren't going my way

1:06 PM
When you've got +++- and want to get between +4 and +9?
Or when you've got ---- and want to get between -2 and +3?
Or somewhere between?

Oh, wait, it's not a choice
I'm really not familiar with AR power levels and expectations
Concretely, I have no familiarity with anything
So I feel like a bit of a doofus every time I even make some sort of statement

Bah, don't worry about it.
You've seen that we're all walking the same path, and your questions and insights can give me new ways to look at things, or prompt me to think about stuff I'd taken for granted. We're accompanying each other.

1:25 PM
Greetings.

Salutations.

@BESW Aw, thank you very much... I hope I'm anything like that, and not just that one annoying guy that doesn't do anything
I'm just very fascinated with studying and messing around with things, and it acts up even more so when I'm deprived of said things
It's a way for me to blow off steam, in a way

...I'm really tempted to change my avatar.

While I get that mechanics are not just meant to serve the narrative, but are meant to not even come up unless necessary (which is a thing I'm going to have to get my players to understand, that something can still be important without having mechanics, since we're all baoard and video gamers), I'm still fascinated by mechanics conveying a very concrete narrative feeling
The PC and player are separate, but in the end what a player feels is more immediate and potentially impactful than what a PC feels... I love fiction and games to death, but my actual good friends I'd kill for, and if anything makes them FEEL something that ties them together with the narrative is just GOOD to me, even if it's minor things like a mind controller being the only one with the ability to reroll others' dice or an abomination being able to steal Aspects...

1:36 PM
@BESW Sure!

Hah, go for it

I'm poking through my old monster-mini files.
...I still wanna play this guy.

What are these?
monster-minis = ?

When I ran D&D games, I used Gnome Stew print-and-fold minis instead of purchasing miniatures.

Ah... heh, wanna see what I used? Let me fetch it

1:44 PM
So I've got a fairly extensive collection of monster/NPC/PC pictures.

I was so anxious about minis and tokens, it was awful

That's pretty great. I used similar stuff before I found the gnome minis.
Hey, @Tashio, remember this guy?

@BESW WHOA. Eyestalks dude.
Who is that, someone from deadEarth?

1:47 PM
Also, I'm kinda proud I actually converted an adventure map into a large marker drawing that I actually cut up for fog of war

@doppelgreener He's a minor boss from a 4e adventure. He spent far too much time near a Far Realm weak spot.

@BESW That would do it.

But I doubt I'd really want to go through that much prep and anxiety again, considering that it...*became my undoing* [sudden thunder crackles]

Those eyestalks? Kamola Hava was seriously traumatised to discover that they're connected all the way through.

That guy looks half beholder
That shadow guy looks cool as heck

1:49 PM
He was going through a "gruesome trophy" stage, and decided to hack off an eyestalk after we killed the guy.

What's this chatroom's attitude towards gushy picture sharing? Is it too much of a nuisance?

@BESW I remember this. Do I also remember one of the PCs going googly-eyed themselves?

That first monster (can't @ it on phone P:) looks like the unidentified Ghost from Pokémon RBY grew legs. I love it.

@AlexMitan Go for it, Pictures are cool

I love the eyestalks

1:50 PM
He grabbed one stalk and started pulling. He got about three feet of stalk... and then the other stalk started retreating into the guy's skull.

Lol

Was it just a single creature replacing his eyes?

About six feet later he had a nine-foot-long tentacle with an eyeball on either end.

I have 130 dice now!
I even have a rather beautiful onyx one!

1:51 PM
Dang
I have a chest full of pirate gold

There's no way that much tentacle could have fit inside the guy's skull.

@AlexMitan Strongbow?

@doppelgreener Temporarily, yes.

@eimyr It's finally reached our country! It was just -there-
It's cider and it's one of the very few good things about this country
I found a cool thing about research, by the way! Look at this:
"Okay, here’s what you do. Write down “(Research: leg in the park)”. It’s an undefined aspect right now. Later, at a dramatically-appropriate moment, you can reveal what you’ve “found” by turning this into an aspect, as long as it’s something you could have pieced together thanks to whatever you discovered in the park."

@AlexMitan Strongbow is english but I assume it's present abroad as well.

1:56 PM
@eimyr Yep, every sip is a reminder.. a promise... I shall reunite with my Motherland some day...

Where are you located then?

Romania...
Travelled quite a bit in my life, every single country I've visited is considerably better in every aspect than this place, all I'm gonna say unless prompted to elaborate

Had a Romanian friend, he had a similar opinion about his country.

Why's it so bad?

Best things about this country are things we got from others, Strongbow, Comic Con, TV series and films
Economy is burned to the ground, for starters, and that causes a lot of crap
Compared to the UK, the prices are around... half or a third, but the salaries are around 1/8 what they are in there
So basically imagine affording around 4 times less stuff
Then, the people are incredibly rude and judgmental, if you smile at someone in the streets 90% of the time they'll think you're mentally ill or want something from them and they'll scowl

2:01 PM
@AlexMitan well, that's what you get in a country where it's actually true for a couple decades until recently

schools are in the ground too, teachers earn next to nothing so they don't even care, sometimes don't even care enough to join their classes... infrastructure is decades behind.. corruption abounds, police is abusive, everything that can go wrong kinda does
Oh, and it's fumingly homophobic, sexist and racist around here, and I'm in one of the better cities

Oh, and if as a guy you're not a testosterone-powered aggressive macho-machine you're kind of socially screwed on hostile grounds (read: everywhere)

@AlexMitan I'm still inclined to say that Romania has much better outlook on the future than 25 years ago.

Well it was pretty hopeful, a year out of being under communist dictatorship helped
It's just that it over-glorifies the past and tradition, it glorifies aggression and it has no such thing as a culture of boundaries and comfort zones, which is reflected in its super weak psychiatrical lore level, but we're delving real deep here

2:09 PM
Wait, what? A year? Are we back to 1990?

in 1989 it got out of the dictatorship if I'm not mistaken

You'll find that all post-soviet states have a "tough people" culture

I get all that, but it's different from the "tough to themselves and each other" kind of insensitive, self-destructive and self-blinding mentality that's going on here

In general, due to all the societal competition people of Eastern Europe were to an extent trained in how to be distrustful and egoistical - in order to survive, as a "community benefit" was not recognised as a thing.

They're clinging onto what happened in the past while the present is going to hell, it's like a coping mechanism

2:14 PM
Well, one leads to another. Take a look at Ukraine perhaps, there are people who glorify UPA, their one "victory" of the 20th century, without recognising its fascist roots. Take a look at some Polish parties, which intend to introduce "historical policing", meaning that any country that has ever "done Poland wrong" (which would amount to all of them excluding Fiji perhaps) is not to be trusted. Coping mechanisms are all the rage there.

What really bothers me is the hatred towards Hungarians.. I've been to Hungary last year
And it was gorgeous, some of their gas stations look better than most of our malls

It's historical again.

Yeah, which I'm not very good at
Not because I necessarily never tried, but mostly because I tried to wipe away everything I learned in school due to intense resentment towards it
So yeah, history's not my best skill
shudders as he remembers d20 History skill

Neither is mine. However the older I get the more I appreciate the phrase "Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it".

2:36 PM
Heh, sure, but I'm too convinced it's human nature to only look at history, then try to replicate the events, only at a lower cost to themselves

2 hours later…
4:10 PM
bye for now.

4:40 PM
Goodbye!
Do you guys think offering "neutral" free invokes on environmental aspects in Fate is a good idea to get newbies to use them and get used to the system? Also getting to them before the enemies in multi-zone combats and such?
