the bends would be a concern as well

Isn't that for coming out of the pressure?

true
but yeah, nitrogen effects would be a concern -- but swapping the inert component out fixes that AIUI
and yeah, you wouldn't notice any O2 toxicity for that time and that ppO2 unless you were extra sensitive to it

There will be nitrogen in the atmosphere, though less than normal.
Let me double-check this.

your ppN2 is going to be 2.92 bar, which gives the same ppN2 as a 3.8bar air atmosphere -- or a dive to nearly 30m. so you'd indeed get mild nitrogen narcosis
is this the atmosphere of a confined space, a breathing apparatus, or a large open area?

Large open area.
Effectively we're dropping a human into Carboniferous-era Earth.

12:08 AM
ah, so yeah...
they'd probably want to be trained scuba divers, of all things -- one of the things divers train for is how to compensate for mild to modest nitrogen narcosis

Would the elevated O2 give any short-term physical benefits for recovery/endurance?

12:21 AM
It looks very clear from context that the answer to this question is that it's in the Exalted RPG, but I know nothing about Exalted.
Ruut got it.
(I'm really tempted to downvote for lack of research, as I was able to ID the game in minutes by simply noticing that the image was part of a series, and assuming it'd be explained earlier in the series. And I know nothing of Exalted.)

Cool.
So I work up a zone aspect about the atmosphere and it can be invoked for bursts of endurance and compelled for fuzzy thinking.
I'm not worried about long-term effects or the problems of exiting the pressure zone, because my PCs are Action Scientists who can solve these things.

Lost it at "Inspector Frost."
...dear Stargate: Universe. You're not a great show, but you're not as dumb as I originally thought. Except.... you just had a brilliant mathematician say he had no idea what the numbers "3-1-4" might signify.
I know it turns out to be a safety deposit box number, but seriously? The expert in numbers and patterns and code-breaking can't think of ANYthing "314" might be a reference to?

1:46 AM
@BESW uh... smart guys can be dumb sometimes? Or, "it's so obvious it's not worth mentioning?" (or, you know, bad writing...)

He's the kind of guy who'd say "pi" just so nobody else in the room says it first.

I thought it was a pretty good show overall. Very different to previous Stargate shows though, and I think that's the main reason it failed. People had an expectation of what "a Stargate show" should be, and either tuned in looking for that & finding something else, or decided not to tune in because that's not what they were looking for, when maybe they might have liked this one.

Hmm. That's my biggest problem with SG:A too.
SG-1 was "the absolute best humanity has to offer, standing against cosmic odds and triumphing." SG:A was "the brightest of humanity, but not the best, eking out success against cosmic odds despite themselves." SG:U was "random ordinary folks face (who are sorta kinda jerks really) cosmic odds and mostly don't die."
Each is interesting, but each steps on the toes of the others when they're forced to acknowledge each others' presence in the same franchise.
Bah. Bad edit.

Hey @BESW, the front page of WB just got messed up :P Never have I been more amazed at what two people can do.

I passed up SG:U the first time around partly because I wasn't interested in watching Jerks In Space, and partly because I thought the "can't control the ship" thing was going to get old before it had a chance to be new.

1:58 AM
That image of the dwarves is amazing

@Mourdos ?

Decided to actually act on meta consensus at WB.SE and initiate incineration. mostly two users and 80 questions later, a tag was no more.

Heh.
The front page should bounce back pretty fast.

It is more the fact that they went through and fixed the spelling and grammar in the posts at the same time. it took 15 minutes to do the final 38 questions.
That is some rapid reading.

Nice.

2:54 AM
I clicked on this question because of the title grammar, but the answers have me howling. Janeway never violated any Starfleet regs?
Also there is a deleted answer which reads, in its entirety, "Hooooooo looooooooooo. Oooooo gooo gooo gooo goooo."

wow
also, how many downvotes does it take to kill an answer on rpg.se?

@Shalvenay An infinite number

heheh

Downvotes don't delete.

alrighty then
wondering how many downvotes some of the terribad answers to the vampires using touchscreen question will accumulate then ;)

3:05 AM
Answers that are good except for being wrong shouldn't get deleted by the community or by moderators.

well, in this case, they're answers, just terribly logically flawed

Yeah, and downvotes are the sorting mechanism to let them drift down the page into obscurity.

A: A fellow player is uncooperative with the group and gets GM favoritism. How do I handle this?

Lucas LeblancI hate to sound crass here, OP, but there's a reason that you don't date your fellow players, and you're discovering it. Love tends to make one see something in another that other people don't, just by its very nature. This means that even if you're best friends with someone, they might end up be...

OTOH -- going 54 and 0 for a pure simulationist answer is pretty good in my book

...I wonder what my highest-voted answer is that has no downvotes.
My top three qualify. Yey.

Wow, nice! My 3rd best makes it in.

It's sort of hard to disagree with stuff like "Paladins don't have to be jerks" and "This is where the owlbear came from."

@BESW well, rather: answers that are genuine answers to the question generally do not get deleted (except by the author), but definitely get heavily downvoted.
because badness or wrongness is not itself a deletion criteria, but inappropriateness in its various forms is

Boom, flagged

I was just reading the Q on realistic tombs (and now I want to do an adventure based on the Black Pyramid) and it got me thinking... If you wanted to prevent your corpse being turned undead, but leave it possible to resurrect you, what should your funerary arrangements be? (with D&D magic)

@Adeptus Any particular edition?

I don't know... 3.x?

4:18 AM
Yikes, that's tough
I'm honestly not sure it's possible to guarantee your non-undeath

Burn the body, use True Resurrection to come back. Otherwise keep a body part for Resurrection (not enough to zombify). If you're really paranoid, use soul jar to keep your soul from being captured.
Though of course people could get control of your soul that way. Honestly, afterlife in your god's domain is probably safer.

@doppelgreener btw, have you had a chance to look at the ID Odds code?

5:36 AM
@Magician only recently! i should take a look at it this week...

Cool. I could really use one more person volunteering a brief essay on IDs, but eh.

I'm not really sure what to write about them. :O
What sort of topics have been written already?

Here are the two tiny things Brian and me have written.

5:53 AM
I like these.
And I'm suddenly reminded of the Major questioning the existence of her own brain and her humanity.

Hmmm?

The Major (Motoko) from Ghost in the Shell, I'm guessing.

Oh! Yes. Of course. It would be useful to specify which Major. There are other Majors in the world who are not her. I forgot about this.
@Pixie It's her, yes.

6:11 AM
@doppelgreener It's easy to forget when she's so much cooler. :P

@Pixie I'm not sure which other Majors you might be comparing her to, unless that is a broad sweeping gesture with regards to all the Majors, in which case I guess I'd agree. :D

@doppelgreener A sweeping gesture. Other hypothetical Majors are welcome to try their hand, but they have some stiff competition.

@Pixie I could totally also imagine Motoko jumping out at them from the shadows, taking them out, then absconding sneakily.

@doppelgreener Then there will not be other Majors in the world who are not her. There can be only one.

6:39 AM
@Pixie personally i am okay with there being more than one
but she is totally going to remove all competition for coolest position
note to self: organise/orchestrate/inflame an Ultimate Showdown between all potential coolest Majors.

Yawp.

So, I have a problem to solve as a player in a game, and I'm getting a little irritated about being in the land of "no real rules"
There is an elder fire elemental in a building, let us assume that this building has many floors and he isn't next to an exit and there is at least one story above him.
Let us further posture that this city is flooded, and the fire elemental has been trapped there, since it is using all its "strength" to prevent itself from being.. something. (this is because the rules say fire elementals can't move through water).
Given a party of level 2 and 3s and very limited prep time, how do we get it out?

Destroy Water?

note that the water around it starts doing damage to you when you fail a fort save, as it is very hot

12:33 PM
Is it cooperative?

Yes

Planks?
Cast fly on it?

level 2 and 3
sorry, Pathfinder
mostly 1st level spells

Cast jump on it. The elemental will have something like +27 to Acrobatics for long and tall jumps (+10 jump, +9 Dex, +8 racial bonus from speed). It can leap from building to building across the city.

Trying to get it out of a flooded building
when we can't move it easily, because the water restricts its movement

> A fire elemental cannot enter water or any other nonflammable liquid. A body of water is an impassible barrier unless the fire elemental can step or jump over it or the water is covered with a flammable material (such as a layer of oil).
Lay down oil as necessary to get it to the roof, and cast jump on it.

isn't grease a 1st level spell?

It's not flammable, though.

True.
I forget that sometimes

Sorry, I thought this was clearer, the elemental is currently underwater, surrounded by it

12:45 PM
Yeeah, that was not clear.

@Mourdos what class?

we have a mixture of lots of things, all spontanious casters, so spell selection is limited

Yikes

we have access to potions on the fly, provided we don't need to many
this is the party of alternate characters, the main characters started a war with ogres led by a demon, the B team decided to help out by freeing a fire elemental if it agreed to go burn some ogres
( since they can't take part in the war reasonably )

how big is the elemental?

12:51 PM
Elder, so huge, I believe
weighs 8 lb

The water above it. How much is there?
How deep

a couple of stories?

Hmm.

( and a couple of floors/ceilings)

Hmmm.
only first level sorcerer spells.
The only thing I see spell wise that might help is d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/e/expeditious-excavation but it only lets you move 5sqft of dirt at a time.

12:53 PM
I'm a first level sorcerer, my only known spell is snapdragon fireworks :P

Yeah, I got nothing

We came up with one solution
I have the feeling the DM considers it too easy
( we have a oracle of solar who took that)

So many spells that could work if you were in 3.5 instead of PF (and a slightly higher level)

@Mourdos Might be the only option unless you are into manual labor

3 hours later…
3:48 PM
@Mourdos Elder elementals weigh 12 lbs. A Huge weighs 8 lbs.

4:06 PM
Nooo, the extra 4 lb shall doom me!
I missed that :-)

4:42 PM
@Mourdos It's a bit off the wall, but if you have access to potions on the fly, I wonder what would happen if you gave a fire elemental a potion of water walk? :p
Note the following: If the spell is cast underwater (or while the subjects are partially or wholly submerged in whatever liquid they are in), the subjects are borne toward the surface at 60 feet per round until they can stand on it.

1 hour later…
6:13 PM
@Mourdos You could use Endure Elements for the heat of the water if your people need to touch it at some point, assuming it's not over 140F/60C. Too bad you're not at spell level 2, Alter Self would be an easy solution...

Yo ho
Underwater fire elements...quite the hot topic

XD
@Pureferret Yea. It is an interesting issue he brought forward.

6:42 PM
@Aaron It is
Maybe it should use the Fire Exit?

lol
See pic above but with more laughs.

Another question is: How do I get Geas for my Warlock/Paladin?
It sounds like the only way to redeem people

paladins only go up to level 4 spells right?

7:00 PM
@Aaron They can get up to fifth, but Geas isn't one of them

7:13 PM
Its for this:

Q: How can I redeem the unjust?

PureferretI'm playing a LN paladin (vengeance)/warlock (Great Old One/Tome) soon, and I want to redeem enemies I deem worthy of my mercy. With create thrall I expect to be in complete control of an enemy at the end of combat. Is there anything in 5E that would allow me to change someone/thing's alignment...

7:33 PM
@Pureferret Ive VTCd it
nothing personal but I think a lot of alignment questions like that just get far too subjective

@JoshuaAslanSmith Why?
Is there anything in 5E that would allow me to change someone/thing's alignment?

5e is not anti-alignment as per 4e, but its also very iffy and vague and doesnt really come into play at all
thus 5e alignment questions are just a lot more subjective than a 3.5 alignment question for example (not a fan of that system at all, but it has lots of widgets hanging off the alignment system)

@JoshuaAslanSmith well thanks for letting me know :)

yeah I mean the community may not agree, but I thought Id explain it here, vs. starting a comment chain to infinity (and beyond)

8:11 PM
@Pureferret My reaction to that question was that there's no way to forcibly redeem someone. But forcing someone to become good defeats the purpose anyway, so naturally the way to do it is to non-forcibly redeem them via social influence, freindship, and all that sparkly magic.

@SevenSidedDie Hmmm

8:23 PM
@SevenSidedDie Isn't Friendship a spell?

@Pureferret We know it's definitely magic.

@Pureferret I don't mean the spell, but I suppose that would be a quick way to get someone initially on your side so that you can begin leading them toward redemption. :)

@SevenSidedDie Wait the friends spell says they know you dupped them at the end of the spell

1959: Advice to Yeti Hunters in Nepal.😨 http://t.co/1vEWmgrMXx

@BESW Cool

8:39 PM
@Pureferret "You tricked me!" Suddenly, a knife was in his hand. The paladin ignored it, vulnerable. "Yes, I tricked you. But the friendship that we built during that time is a true one, is it not? The lie lead you to the truth." The old paladin held out his hand to the man with the untrusting eyes, gambling on the spark of humanity that he hoped was still there. "Are you ready to follow me further?"
2

@SevenSidedDie I definitely remember it not being that easy in earlier editions, but I get the impression that things are a great deal more flexible in this edition

@Pureferret It's left up to the GM and group in this edition. Far as I can tell, there's no way to force redemption. That leaves doing it the hard way.

9:07 PM
Huh. Does 5E still have detect evil?

@MadMAxJr It has sense good and evil
but only picks up supernaturally good/evil beings
like celestials and demons

Ah, creatures who have it as a defined type, not necessarily by alignment?
Interesting.
So sense evil picks up on devils and demons, but not necessarily the party rogue who has manic thoughts.

@MadMAxJr Thats how I remember it
let me check

That would seriously change my Pathfinder party and their standard operating procedure of "Paladin! Have a quick look around for EVIL."
Still useful, just only finds things actually /made/ of evil.

@MadMAxJr aberration, celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead
And it is 'Detect' not Sense

9:15 PM
Neat! Something to add to the column of reasons why I might enjoy running 5E.

@MadMAxJr ✔

"No no Mr.Paladin, he's just morally and ethically ambiguous, he is not a demon."
3
Paladin glare increases. "I will be watching you."

@MadMAxJr Or conversely the rogue does ping to being a demon...and can't hide behind being 'morally ambiguous'

Paladin glaring /increases/.
Yes. You get a gold star sticker for today.

That's actually quite disturbing

9:27 PM
That's continuously using detect evil, hoping for a different result. :D

@MadMAxJr Lol sounds like it

And time to go. Thanks for the input.

9:58 PM
@Pureferret Incidentally, Geas is on the Paladin list.

@Miniman ....
Perhaps the issue I was thinking of was that I wanted to get to level 14 of warlockyness

Yeah, can't help you with that one.

@Miniman True
Create Thrall is just too awesome not to go for it

10:25 PM
Does anyone know which abilities are triggered on advantage (like Sneak Attack)

10:37 PM
Create Thrall is probably a lot crappier than you realize. They're charmed by you, but it doesn't say anything about them taking orders from you.
Off the top of my head i can't think of anything else that requires advantage to use.

@Miniman Hmmm

It's a bit weird, actually
I can't tell if it's meant to do anything other than the actual charmed condition

@Miniman I meant to look that up
@Miniman 1) Can't attack you (but can attack your allies) b) You have advantage on social checks

@Pureferret Yeah, it's not bad, but it's hardly a "thrall"

@Miniman Yeah it's not like Dominate Person or something
It's at will (one creature) Friends

10:53 PM
19 days. 1429 points.

@JohnP Are you winning yet?

@Pureferret Charm, not friends. And it can only be removed by a remove curse spell.
At will, no save, and can be used remotely once in place.

@JohnP True

11:07 PM
From libris mortis p. 80 Ghostly Arm: This gray, incorporeal arm can’t be used to manipulate solid objects. However, the grafted creature can use the ghostly arm to deliver an incorporeal touch attack that deals 1d6 points of damage, the equivalent of a ghost’s corrupting touch attack. Treat the arm as a secondary weapon, but because it is incorporeal the arm has no Strength score and therefore gains no bonus or penalty on damage rolls from the user’s Strength. Graft Flesh, ethereal jaunt; Price 6,000 gp.
Wrong forum?

It won't provoke, you can't use it with 2 weapon fighting, I'm not sure what you mean by question 3, and it will work with weapon finesse
For question 3, do you mean can you use it to deliver other touch attacks?

So if i get these, it wont increase the attacks i get?
use the ghostly arm to deliver an incorporeal touch attack is that = melee touch attack?

If you get 2 you could use two weapon fighting, but then you'd have no hands capable of interacting with physical objects
@Simon Yep

It replaces hands?

I don't know, I guess I just assumed
(I'm not an expert on 3.5)

11:12 PM
Also it says that it works as a secondary weapon, what does that mean?

Oh right, ignore everything I've said
It's a natural weapon

Ohhhhhhhhh fancy
That dosent provoke does it?

it doesn't
natural weapons don't provoke as a rule

So effectively i got 2 natural weapons that can attack, with touch attacks. OTHER then my 2 normal weapons :O
Well rogue is gonna be awesome from now on

sidenote: what happens if you try to put 2 instances of (Lesser) Geas on the same person?

11:21 PM
@Shalvenay antimatter containment breach

Bah. Silly Internet. [tablets]

@SevenSidedDie -- as in "D&D does not define what will happen if you try this, so the DM just has to make something uP?"
or is it closer to the C standard's concept of undefined behavior (aka nasal demons)?

I get nasal shoggoths when I have a really bad cold.
[teaches tablet about shoggoths]
(Probably half the words I've added to this tablet's autocorrect are Lovecraftian.)

Could I somehow get find steed and wish on the same character?
I could then cast wish, which has a target of me, and have it automatically effect my steed

Can you wish for find steed?

11:37 PM
@BESW Mmm....DM decision
find steed is only lvl 2 so should be accessible for minimal Mc investment?

11:58 PM
@Simon That was my question on your question. I don't have the book, so can't check. Read through all the info about grafts in general (and this one in particular) - it should tell you whether or not it replaces an existing arm.
