Years and years ago now, Head Office sent teams to investigate the downloading of gigabytes of porn. Turned out a new version of Eclipse had just come out that had support for some then-new features of Java 5. Those folks at Playboy did a lot of web development and hosted an Eclipse mirror. They also had really, really fast pipes, so most of our Java devs were directed to Playboy when they updated. — user4581301 2 days ago
That's awesome.

@forest :D
Why would the OP's question be downvoted that much? It seems genuine?

@MiG Because someone linked to some regex which contained links to a NSFW site, and he got all mad that his R&A flag wasn't accepted.

I can't see the original post I'm afraid, without that the meta post looks fairly normal

7:50 AM
I think it was linked to in a comment or something.
The original post was rather mundane. Not something for anyone to flag R/A.

heh, funny to be approving your edits @JourneymanGeek :)

lol
there's sites I don't have much rep in. Yet
I was there cause diy.stackexchange.com/questions/254380/… actually and it needs flags

MiG
yeah, already raised that one in DiY chat as well
who the hell closes a spam post rather than delete it? :/

Not everyone is aware of the 'right thing'

this was an interesting, though slightly depressing read

apropos of that VFX thing, there was a recent promo clip of some sort
with the director of some Marvel stuff and someone else
laughing at some VFX things that didn't quite go right
which seemed just the icing on the cake
I think it was Taika Waititi?
even if it was meant to be lighthearted, given the timing the optics are... not great

Heh, most upvoted comment: "the judgement of the VFX when the workers don’t get enough payment and are rushed to finish the project off before the deadline."

Lol
Used to work in the industry lol
Loved the job. Pay was meh

I figure there are almost as many hopefuls in the CGI industry as there are actors, and I assume with hardware becoming cheaper and cheaper, there will only be more people wanting to enter that job market so that situation won't change any time soon

Well the whole economic model behind it is flawed. Basically studios can't make money without well, people working fir cheap and economic subsidies

And I guess it's one of the easiest types of job to ship to wherever there are no strict labour laws
Same region of iffiness as callcenters
Although I hear from gf there are more and more respectable ones in India, that actually do stuff like pick personnel up from home (so female staff don't have to walk home alone late at night, a big no no in a lot of the country), provide good food for breaks and I assume pay fair wages

@JourneymanGeek any economic model involving studios is flawed, viz Hollywood accounting
I'd be surprised if they couldn't afford to pay VFX a reasonable amount
(or couldn't dial back on the VFX)
as opposed to "we don't wanna"

5:24 PM
@JourneymanGeek Huh? Iron Man 3 only made $1.2 billion. :)
