Argh!. Windows 10 hiding most of my icons again. Even after killing and restarting explorer, restarting a few times etc.
I want to defacate in the laptop, set it on fire and upgrade to win7

I just spent the last half hour booting, rebooting and re-rebooting my laptop to get to my desktop icons. MS please upgrade win10 someday to win7 or some alternative superior product.

even the taskkill /f /im explorer.bat file is not working

Rock solid: It was when I installed it.
I know expect it to crash at least once per week, and that browsers have a 'sorry, this tab has crashed' at least 5 times per day. Though the last is not win10's fault

But spending an hour just to boot, open the desktop, create a folder, drag desktop folders to the folder 'to be moved to desktop'' and then dragging them to the visible desktop?

Because it bloody keeps hiding files aqnd folders at random ?

I suspect it is a case of 'do not come anywhere near the edge of a screen or win10 will fuck you up'

@Hennes Have you tried dragging to the desktop directory in explorer rather than to the displayed desktop?

No, I never use explorer

But I suspect it is a case of win10 using multiple desktops (which cannot be turned off) and my dragging this across the edge of the screen to the other computer (using teamviewer to access my work laptop, which allows dragging between the remote desktop and my home PC's desktop)

And I tend to use work files on the home desktop since it is MUCH faster

38Mb excel files on a laptop with a laptops low power CPU do not tend to play along well. Even if you minimize formula's

Well, most laptops anyway. Work laptop is an lenova I490 with an i5-8365 @ 1.6GHz

Compared to my nornal laptop (I9-9900k factory OC'd to 4.5GHz) is it painfully slow

Not sure if that is due to CPU or memory (I think I managed to get the helpdesk to install a 64 bit version of orifice 365

Though that took a lot of time and it still feels significantly slower than office 2016

If you use Excel files of 38MB, you probably need another solution :p

Also, excel has a limit of 1.8 mil lines. The fact that I know that limit by heart proves your point

Which possibly is not the point which the marketeer was trying to make, but which still is very valid

Everyone has ms excel. Everyone uses it. Regardless if it is the best tool or not

And if you want someone to understand and possible filter and pit table your dats you best mail it to them as .xlsx

Was worse on my previous place at Philips. Enter into excel. Disable auto calculate or it would take 10 minutes after each enter value and press enter

F9 and go for lunch (tm)

And yes, repeated, wrong tool for the job

I work around it by editing the big exel on my home PCs (i5-6600k and I9-9900k) which makes it acceptably fast.

Not sure how company IT thinks about that.

I think that the WI was before somone knew the 'paste special - as values'

(it used 6 excel. And F9 lasted 5-30 minutes)

But yes, even ms access would be better then 20-50mb excel files

It allows youyou to save as excel with multiple 1.8 mil line tabs (yes, actually in production)

Most of that can probably be streamlined by saving pure data to CSV, then importing it into Excel when you actually need to deal with it.

If you're taking data from one sheet, and copy and pasting it into another sheet it pulls so much more than just the numbers with it.

Hate to say that MS Access is also not the answer, we have one Access database here just to import some lines from Excel and every few weeks it gets corrupted

I mentioned that I was keeping an asset register for our small site in Access as a learning experience and one of the finance guys was like ... "Uhhh we're not allowed to use Access"

So right now (on a scale of 1 to 3 where 1 is urgent, 3 is day to day taks), I have 6 at status 1, one at priority 0, 2 and prio -1.

So any valaue 3 tasks can wait for a few years

Personally I love to take soe piostgress lessons and see how I can implement things. Potentially with acess of as front end and with postgress to store the data.
But then I would need to get a VPN to run postgress on since I lost my last server.

To be fair. server was at Stack. Technical university, computer club. With the goal sto introduce people to these new fangled , room big machines called computers

And I still have the micro dutch manuals at home. (19, feet high) boxes of hardware for a single 16Mhz 68020

with a whopping 6MiB of memory (4 usuable, 2 unknow but stopped working when you removed them)

We offered thos4 eextremely new fangled things like email.

Which, to be fair, no longer requires a special club for these extremely rare things
