I don't think it should be. Certain types of video simply wouldn't work

Yeah. It's kinda weird that it does detect everything. If it just didn't work at all, I'd chuck it down to a broken or bad adaptor.
But the fact that I get supported resolutions, model information, correct refresh rate, etc, just makes it weird that all I'm missing is the picture.
Ohh, I got it working!
Embarrassingly the cable was loose. I guess it was connected briefly, resulting in Windows knowing what display was there, but not then got loose.
Well ... thanks for being my rubber ducks for a bit. :P

1:22 AM
Was reading about TempleOS, read about it some, and some of Terry's old blog posts. Found Evan on StackExchange, seems he has a bit of history on here. It's been an interesting night of research
Also, seems like some members of the chat haven't changed over the years lol

4:19 AM
@WilliamMariager lol @ "rubber ducks"
*quack*
@WilliamMariager HDCP shouldn't be the issue. HDCP only comes into play when you're trying to play protected video content, not when you're only on the desktop.

4:39 AM
Lol all DRM is pointless
You can find 4K rips of all shows and movies on the internet
So what purpose does it even solve if this stuff can be pirated anyway? It had one job, and it failed at that.
DRM does nothing except make life so much tougher for legitimate users

4 hours later…
8:56 AM
@rahuldottech Amusingly, I think the advent of streaming media killed DRM more than anything else.
The very thing it was meant to protect.

@MichaelFrank Killed DRM as in helped pirates defeat DRM?

Yes
"What's that? you're sending the video I'm trying to pirate directly to my computer?"

Ah lol. Yeah, I agree.

"I don't have to try and capture it in between my cable box and my TV?"

Google and Netflix and all crazy about Widevine, but at this point it's completely pointless when it comes to DRM
Now it's just being used by Google to stifle competition in the browser space

9:24 AM
@rahuldottech +1, DRM is useless

2 hours later…
11:35 AM
@cutrightjm not really no 😁
@MichaelFrank apparently there was a 4k capable capture box that ignored hcdp.

12:00 PM
And that kinda was used by a lot of the release teams. Also one reason 4k is slightly rare. They stopped making them once big media caught on

I can't wait for the MetroCard phaseout...

PLEASE SWIPE AGAIN
(see context)

2:03 PM
thats much cleaner than the trains i caught in NYC
did you get one fresh from the depot? ;)

@Burgi Like I said, that's an R160A, one of the newer trains in the fleet.
We still have loads of very old trains in the subway, and just recently, all the R179 trains were sidelined over a door safety problem, forcing the MTA to deploy the positively ancient R32s in the affected lines.

have you been to the subway musuem in brooklyn?

@bwDraco Heh, sounds like Pacer trains here in the UK
decades old "buses on train wheels"

@Burgi I haven't had a chance to visit the New York Transit Museum...

2:10 PM
(one incident involved a door opening by about four inches while the train was in motion, triggering the emergency brakes. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN)

they've got subway cars from the turn of the 19th century
we did brooklyn bridge at 9am, finished it 20 mins later and were "well its too early for brooklyn pizza..."
had a little wander and found that museum
then found a great pizza place for lunch
my GF needed paracetamols so we went to a real american drug store, marvelled at the ridiculous prices then caught the train to 9/11
i found it facinating, because my GF is a little too young to have grasped the reality of it at the time
and if you do go to 9/11, do NOT listen to the answer machine messages
they are very very grim

@Burgi how old was she?
I was 6 but I have a vivid memory of it

I was having exams :D
I am pretty sure I was in JC
17... ya, sounds about right

@avazula 12

maybe 18.

2:24 PM
@JourneymanGeek me too
i don't think college had restarted after the summer break yet

Darn. I feel like a kiddo.

my GF was actually on holiday in florida when it happened

@avazula we're old :D. Not as old as a certain other mod but old :D

they got an extra 2 weeks in florida

then again time flies
Ash is 15 in april ._.

2:27 PM
This doesn't relieve the pain of feeling like an ol' pal being trapped in a young body :D

swap ya! ;)

It is Friday after all... I should ask my mother
haha
(now I'm afraid you won't get the reference ._.)

i didn't, but thats ok i don't watch much tv

Me neither ... But I saw that movie once when I was a teen
Freaky Friday is a 2003 American fantasy-comedy film directed by Mark Waters and written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon, based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel of the same name. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter, respectively, whose bodies are switched by a mysterious and magical Chinese fortune cookie. The film was released in theaters on August 6, 2003, by Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista Pictures. It received largely positive reviews from critics and earned over $160 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. It was Disney's third film adaptation of the novel...
Basically it's mother & daughter swapping bodies for a day and then by the time the sun sets they've realized how hard it is to be in each other's shoes

"I don't watch TV. Its a cultural wasteland filled with inappropriate metaphors and an unrealistic portrayal of life created by the liberal media elite"

@avazula i have heard of it

@JourneymanGeek amen? :p

@avazula Its a quote from a TV show :D

sweet irony. haha

@JourneymanGeek i know that quote but i can't place it....
is it from fraiser?

2:44 PM
@Burgi babylon 5

ah the one i never watched
they had a guy named after a biscuit

0o
Funny thing that
this line was a response to that guy
though Ivanova had the best lines
"Once I fought against imperialism. Now I am the expanding russian frontier!"

part of the issue, for me atleast, was it lacked polish
Trek had set the production bar very high

I heard the writing was top-notch tho
Keep meaning to go and watch B5

@Burgi actually while the DVD versions had some wierdness... It was great on the whole

2:55 PM
i also think in the UK, it was on channel 4 at a weird time
trek was on at 6pm on BBC2

lol
So...
I watched half the first season
and half the third as a preteen
they would start sci fi shows at saturday afternoons
then change them to past midnight. Halfway through a season

tuesdays and thursdays was TNG, wednesdays was DS9 and voyager
fridays was robot wars

So when I first got a cable connection, I bought a new hard drive and...
I've binge watched it 3-4 times over the last decade or two :D
and as much as I love other shows
I don't quote them from memory

its fairly niche but did you ever watch spaced when you were here?

No
Actually didn't watch very much TV

3:02 PM
its a sitcom with simon pegg, nick frost and edgar wright

Was basically struggling through school and a bunch of personal issues

it clicked with the zeitgeist of my social group
we still quote it at each other
its worth a watch

lol
At the moment I need to ... checks
Finish watching killjoys, catch up on 3 seasons of the expanse and season 2 of the orville :D

its a UK tv sitcom so 30 min episodes, 6 episodes a season, only 2 seasons

3:07 PM
@JourneymanGeek but yeah.... finish the expanse

@Burgi I'll.. see about that
@Burgi ya. I need to
my spoon drawer has been a bit empty :D
as is my free time

my boss watches them on the train while commuting.

@Burgi I usually sleep
I get a ride back from day shift (mainly for the dog)

while i think they should be watched on a large TV with good sound in the dark it is an option

I'm usually too tuckered out after night shift
@Burgi my new monitors are ace :D

3:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek you are a commuting pro

@Burgi I'm tired
New job is not that good for that
I take a inter-terminal train, 1 train for 1 stop to get to another line, 14 stops, then a bus

when i caught public transport to uni i'd be so scared to fall asleep and miss my stop

Old job... get on a train, sleep, wake up one stop before.
like a boss
@Burgi happened once or twice

@JourneymanGeek I was... in college at the time
doing graphic design

same :(

3:15 PM
We went to the news agents during a break
they had a TV on, it was showing the news, but we thought it was a movie at first
and then the shopkeeper said 'nah, this is real'

@Burgi but old office was basically the last station and the trains were empty

we were all like :O

i once woke up in huddersfield

and the fact that it was a straight train...
lol.

went back to college, told lecturer, they found out some info and sent us all home

3:16 PM
@Burgi I know how to get home from 2-4 stations in each direction of my usual stop :D
that line in that area has a lot of stops

oh i knew how to get home, it was just expensive

oh, this is singapore :D

after nights out i have fallen asleep on last train and woken up well on my way to liverpool

I'd just take the train in the opposite direction without getting out of the station

in the UK they check your ticket on the train

3:18 PM
@JourneymanGeek hah, I never did it
i once got on a train going entirely the wrong direction, at high speed, with very few stops
ended up halfway accross the country in the wrong direction.

@djsmiley2kTMW really?

i'd sleep, but never missed my stop

you've never fallen asleep on the bus or train?
ah

well
In india we sometimes take overnight trains
(protip, in tamil nadu, go second class, day time trains ;D)

why not first class?

3:21 PM
Airconditioning sucks
the windows don't let you see out
Open the windows, get the fresh air, old timey seats...

@JourneymanGeek i've seen the simpsons, its because of all the people clinging to the outside, right?

@Burgi oh that's the north
the southern states are less nutty other than the politics :D

once on the night bus, again after a night out, i fell asleep and the driver did a terrible job of checking if it was empty and we were halfway back to the depot when i scared the life out of him

hahah

Should be going there before april
(and who knows, maybe I'll have news)

3:28 PM
i'll buy a hat

(also got some other logistics to work out if it happens. If anyone wants an invite, coming or not...)

3:40 PM
you need to stream it tbh
i'll raise a drink to you
it's not .... bad to drink on your behalf is it? :D

as long as it isn't liquidised cow i'm sure it'll be fine
basically no bovril or gravy

omfg my head ¬_¬

4:06 PM
you ok?
brb beer o'clock#

4:53 PM
i did have a pounding head ache
but it's gione again now
5 min til beer o' clock
tho really, need to wait til kids in bed ¬_¬

@djsmiley2kTMW might happen and I'll try to put the cheesyass official video somewhere 😁

5:29 PM

Ah now the market place actually loads and there's an additional 9Gb download, thanks cod, you peice of utter balloney

8:22 PM
I'm really appreciating the Code Review SE site right now :)

9:03 PM
I wish DeWalt made a cordless soldering iron...
(Milwakee has an M12 soldering iron but I really don't want to buy into a second power tool platform)
*Milwaukee

9:49 PM
you seen adam savages soldering station?

The wood one?

yah
with the de walt battery...
is what I was rferring to ;)

@djsmiley2kTMW Is that battery "20V Max" or "18V XR"?
(because that's the tool platform I use; legacy 18V batteries have a stem that is inserted vertically into the handle, while "20V Max"/"18V XR" batteries slide horizontally into the tool)

10:11 PM
Dunno

1 hour later…
11:34 PM
What exactly is the name of the cable that plugs into Elements hard drives? shop.westerndigital.com/products/portable-drives/… Is it USB micro type B or type C or what?

@northerner That connector is Micro-B.

thanks
