So, in my quest for the perfect torrent setup - I discovered that 1) there's a fork with RSS management in 2) that you could copy over some files from the fork source to make it work on the standard version
Pointing it at the files from the fork results in broken icons so I decided to be a smart doggo and buiild the file hirachy I need with symlinks...
and... it dosen't work cause apparently qbitorrent dosen't like it when I symlink the altwebui files ._.

I was attempting to set up torrents on my centos server the other day...
it was frustrating to find something that worked well in a terminal.

Oh, I want to use qbitorrent-nox with the webui

Yea, I think I ended up using deluge maybe?
Oh, Transmission

ooh
qbitorrent CLI seems interesting too

Hi. Cache is normally measured in kilobytes, isn't that right?

errrr
not really
You'd measure it in which ever measurement makes sense
I don't want to know that my zfs has 70000000 kilobytes zcache.

But it usually ends in a zero right?
In this github repo the author has cache set to 32768 bytes and I'm wondering if that's a mistake?

How many kilobytes you would expect 1megabyte of cache to have?
or kibibytes/mibibytes I guess.

9:52 AM
So in the Windows task manager, even though it says KB it means KiB?

This was me, last night:

Wow they put zero effort in this year's Winter Bash. It's the same website with the year incremented by one. I guess they were too busy pushing out the most committed and respected members of the community.

12:17 PM
@rahuldottech eh, different team
the Public Q&A dev team have been really communicative and good so far

12:34 PM
Homies of the world - what do you think about ebuyer.com/…?
for someone who needs to do homework, browse the web, general 'office' type stuff.

rofl
Someone at work has one of those as his office PC
I'd say its good enough

Or something very similar anyway
has USB PD Charging

12:50 PM
@djsmiley2k-CoW Picasso. Definitely worth a shot; about as good as a Core i3 but is a bit worse with battery life.

It's for a friend, I don't think the battery life will be that much of a issue

I don't see a USB-C port on it, though...
I can't say much about this because this model isn't sold in the US.
(it's common practice to not sell some of these lower-end devices to the American market because it's a rather crowded market and American consumers tend to be pickier, increasing the risk of the product not selling)

Around the globe, we look forward to celebrating traditions that are unique to us, our families, and our communities. The season gives us a chance to reflect, makes us smile, and helps bring us all together.

This year is a special one for the Winter Bash tradition. A hectic end of the year (that included a company-wide Meetup and a ramped-up focus on delivering improvements across other parts of our Q&A experience) means this year’s Winter Bash theme is the same as last year’s. But don’t despair, last year’s theme was awesome! …

@bwDraco Dunno about the processor, but looks neat otherwise
I don't think USB-C will be a requirement for most people for at least a few more years

@rahuldottech oh cause I mentioned the one the guy at work had had usb PD

Ah right
This one doesn't have type-c defo

My laptop has USB PD charging support. It's a huge deal for me.

2:05 PM
@JourneymanGeek how did you get that hat so early?
is it bugged?#

Yes
If I change it, its gone ;p

2:19 PM
@bwDraco You are not the average consumer. You're literally on a site called Super User right now.

lol

Are there any Qi-charged lappys?
(the wireless charging dealie, not a mystical energy or vital force)

Bob
@bertieb Qi does something like 10W at the high end. Laptops are more like 15W+, though some tablets might do less.

@Bob I've seen ones that do a little more, maybe 12-14W ?
Could be interesting to keep things topped up
or charge overnight

Bob
2:25 PM
Hm. Apparently they go up to 15W now...

Just wondering out loud, really

Bob
@bertieb Maybe. Probably less call for it cause there's no shortage of space to put a charging port/dock and waterproofing isn't an issue.

I mean the boring answer is that it adds expense for something that doesn't really replace wired charging
But there are all sorts of crazy laptop designs
Heck, I had one with SLI graphics cards
still do, in my computer retirement home slash loft
@Bob Oh yea, it's definitely not needed

Bob
Also you might need to do something other than Qi

that doesn't stop some folks tho

Bob
2:27 PM
Laptops don't usually charge from 5V
so you'd either need a step-up or some non-Qi standard with higher voltage?
Or does that not matter for wireless? Does it just depend on the receiver coil size?

Dunno, I'm no EEE expert (EEEE?)

Bob
idk
Ok apparently it doesn't matter.
Something something 200V

I thought maybe one of the transformer-types might just have something
since those tend to attract a premium because of form factor, marketing, yadda yadda
wireless charging could be another bell slash whistle

If a laptop were to support wireless charging, wouldn't it need a plastic/non-metal bottom?

makes more sense than electrically reclaiming typing energy

Bob
2:34 PM
@rahuldottech Get yer glass-bottomed laptops here!
Ooh, let's go ceramic. 5kg laptops are making a comeback!
3

@Bob Mine does in a limited manner (only when powered off or in sleep, extremely slow).

People in the market for a gaming laptop are willing to accept a somewhat larger, heavier machine, but I grew tired of carrying an 8 lb laptop myself.
Oct 17 at 1:40, by bwDraco
It's easy to get used to carrying a 6+ lb laptop at first, but my current laptop is less than 3 lb and I'm not going back.

2:54 PM
I'm pretty sure the laptop I had with the SLI cards weighed more than my first car

3:44 PM
lol at flagspam

🤷‍♀️

4:30 PM
Who got the first Winter Bash hat here at Superuser?

no-one yet
but if i had to guess.... @DavidPostill

@JourneymanGeek had one before it even began

5:00 PM
@pimp-juice-it got one.

1 hour later…
6:21 PM

7:00 PM
@Burgi I've no idea if I got the first hat but I'm in joint first place with 3, even though I haven't done anything on the site since it started :)
Ah. It was my HNQ answer earned all 3 :)

7:29 PM
Gah, hats . Well, see you all on the other side of new year then

8:10 PM
Hi
Please How can I boot from the temporary install partition on mya laptop ASUS UX310U

1 hour later…
9:34 PM
FEATURE, NOT BUG!

9:51 PM
@Bob I'd love to have an Alienware Area-51m... but it won't fit in my Osprey Apogee backpack and would look really out of place in the office.
And I'd probably break my back commuting with it every day even with an appropriately-sized backpack.
My point is that thin and light is not a "great-to-have" feature. For many, including me, thin and light is a nonnegotiable requirement.

I lug a T430 around with me.

That's ollllllld.

It still works perfectly fine for what I need.

:p

10:09 PM
@Hennes lol

Just leaving this here for future reference by me:
> "A problem with Conexant audio means that you may hear no sound in Windows 10 even though everything appears to be working correctly. While this is being investigated, Microsoft suggests running msconfig.exe and heading to the Boot tab. Click the Advanced options button, check the Maximum memory box and set the value to 4096."
Still can't believe MS forums actually had a proper working solution to offer.
Also, shame on MS for not fixing this in like 3+ years

10:33 PM
@MichaelFrank If I needed a new laptop now? ThinkPad T490s.
(thought about getting the Razer Blade, but I'm no longer interested in a gaming laptop and would rather get a business-oriented machine)
I'd rather leave the gaming to Astaroth.
But where the f--- are the 10th Gen Intel Core processors?
I hate how you can't get ThinkPad T-series systems at B&M stores.
