I need a really wierd thing

Aliexpress keeps suggesting these hanging "plant" things that look like a breast...
are those weird enough?

1:36 AM
Well no
I'm looking for a low profile PCI express to M.2 PCIe converter for a wifi card
the only one I can find mounts the m.2 card at 90 degrees to the system and I'm not sure there's enough space in my router

Not weird enough?!
What about the giant "cucumbers" they also suggest from time to time...
@JourneymanGeek Can't you just find a high profile one and bend the bracket?

the bracket is plastic. And I can't bend the card
oooh
I think I found one that looks right
I'm picking up a pair (maybe a trio depending on how my experiments go) of 802.11 ax cards
got brackets for my main system/desktop but the client side gear is MUCH cheaper than the APs for now, so I figure I can test getting it working on ubuntu on the test box, then try retrofitting my DIY router with one. Its mini PCIe only so I'd need an adaptor (since the AX200 is M.2 only)

9:34 AM
what's occuring

goob morging
I have a blocked nose

i have a deaf ear
not sure if popped eardrum again, or just inflamed
I think possibly popped - there's no ringing sound from pressure or anything.

Morning

@mattwilkie The ping is the notification when you get a reply. As for malloc(); it should be trivial to write a program that mallocs whatever amount of RAM you want to be used

10:33 AM
Erm..... tmpfs: bad mount option huge... ?

@djsmiley2k-CoW Mine isn't that bad; just a wax buildup.
@bertieb Now I need to work out how to add that to fortune.

Root Access for all your minor oriface blockages

@TRiG I'm surprised it's not in there already!
@Burgi Must... resist... joke...

hmmmmmm
'docker' and port 3000, 3010, 4010
/me has no clue if these are standard ports or something weird

4:11 PM
@djsmiley2k-CoW Nothing in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…
All docker mentions are on different ports ...

yeah. I've no idea if these were just ports, chosen 'internally'
ah well, I've setup a contract as "Proof of Concept Docker" so hopefully no one else tries to use it, thinking it'll magically work

I'm bored so I will wind up Harry :)
Please stick to answering the question as asked, not some other question you would like to answer. — DavidPostill ♦ 50 secs ago

@DavidPostill I've had my share of issues with Harry...

everyone has

4:54 PM
Success. Probably the dvote help as well :)

5:20 PM
@bertieb oh I see, I didn't interpret malloc() as your suggestion. It looked like it was somehow related to the nickname/notification highlight. ... I don't think I have the means to write and compile a C program on Windows. I do have python though, so your suggestions leads me to stackoverflow.com/questions/38009008/…, which is straightforward. Thanks.

@mattwilkie Ah, perhaps too much of a good thing (brevity). Glad you found your solution tho 👍

When setting up SSH pubkeys, do you create a new id_rsa per machine you connect from?

You let a lot of air out of that balloon

@MichaelFrank that'd be the 'advised' way of doing it
However, if you keep your private key secure, there's no reason why you can't copy it to other machines.
Problem is, if you shared the key to all your systems, and it gets comprimised, all your systems now need a new key
and you revoking that keys access is 'all or nothing'
What I do, is normally generate extra keys, for hosts I don't control
i.e. I have a separate private key for my hosted machines that i don't physically own

@MichaelFrank @djsmiley2k-CoW Keeping it secure is more than just keeping a passphrase on it. According to a Security.SE question, the server itself doesn't see whether a passphrase was used or not with your key
Better is using a Certificate Authority, but that is much more complex

setup 2fa as per @CanadianLukeREINSTATEMONICA
too.

Wow... Just got an obvious virus (.doc) from an "invoice" from the Canadian Revenue Agency (with a domain in the .ro TLD). Uploaded to Virus Total, and only 14 detected as a virus! And my real-time scanner did not pick it up until I told it to manually scan!
But still, 14 out of 58 detect it?

virus scanning is >_<
far more sensible to block all attachments

Hey folks, got a malware sample on my machine. It's in a ZIP attachment.
Norton Security did not detect it at first.
A later update did detect the threat and remove it automatically.

8:05 PM
I'd prefer my antivirus not attempt to extract random zip files that turn up in my inbox...

True
Just sucks we can't trust anything anymore
Except Apple. The most trustworthy company in the world! Their partnership with Facebook and Amazon only means they are more cuddly and friendly to the user!

Just so I can find this later. cancel.fm/ripcord
I tend not to trust anyone

Anyone seeing my ping on Matrix?

Matrix is acting weird for me...
