Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel i5-9600KF?
For video games.
I saw Ryzen has better 1% lows than Intel...
People say Ryzen has more even FPS than Intel. Intel has FPS fluctuating.

I'm a little curious. I thought they had soft switches by then

10:58 AM
@JourneymanGeek says really old hardware....
/me tries to figure out how old he was in 97
13?

anything AT era has a soft switch

Deffo was PC's with hard switches troo

usually big THUNK switches at the back?

switches on the front which went 'in'
i.e. didn't just pop on/off
but physically switched, moved in,

I don't remember that on my 486

10:59 AM
ususally with a little rubber case on em

and I missed everything between XTs and those.

yah wasn't 'normal'
but I saw a few.
Rubber case for what tho, dust ingress?

probably

II think that's one on the right there
thyere's one
if there was no power to the machine, the switch wouldn't stay in the on position either
interestingly that one looks to be installed backwards, to me
wow old machine

i love how they show the clock speed

11:11 AM
:D

its literally the coolest thing

Turbo button! (slows down your machine).

yeah.... that was a stupid name

:D
literally, a underclock button

in the 80s "turbo" meant cool and faster

11:12 AM
☐ magic ☑ more magic
since we're talking about switches :D

why would you name a button that slows machines down with the name of something that makes things go faster?
my old celeron 333 had a turbo button i ran the damn thing with the turbo pressed all the time

seriously it is a stupid name
if i could go back in time and change one thing in the world of computing, i'd change the name of the turbo button
</rant>
"retard" would have been more accurate
and there would have been a generation of schoolboys giggling at the button that makes computers stupid

turbo buttons were late XTs no?

idk
it was all magical electric pixies to me back then
@XKCD i'm calling plants for the win

11:31 AM
This turned up in my Google feed.
That's a name I have not heard of in ages. Also via bought centaur

Q: Consume an arbitrary amount of system memory in Windows

matt wilkieI'm looking for Windows program or method to consume an arbitrary amount of RAM. Purpose is to test how another program behaves when it's an a reduced memory situation.

6:10 PM
@mattwilkie malloc()
Also, hello and welcome
Not sure if you'll get that ping as you seem to have joined, posted a link to a brief 20 minute old question and left, but hey
hope the above helps regardless

Anyone ever gotten byobu (tmux) to behave when setting up a session?
I'd quite like to set up a buncha windows with some things running, with it returning to a [bash] prompt afterwards
I did see this answer, but can't seem to get it to target the right session
I also tried 'window sets' (set up a list of windows in $BYOBU_CONFIG_DIR), but they complains 'unknown command: bash')
at this point I'm going to do it the wrong way, using xdotool to manually send the keys to set up the byobu sessions I want

11:05 PM
@mattwilkie Application Verifier?
I used it in my college days for testing my programs in a software engineering class project.

11:53 PM
@bertieb I understand the words but not the meaning of your comment. ;-) Thanks for the welcome, what ping? and brief, yes, but why say more when the Q self describes?

@mattwilkie It's not normally polite to drop into the room, post you Q then take off.

@MichaelFrank Ahh, ok. A SU cultural norm then. I usually hang out in SE backwaters where there's only a few posts a week at most, so that style is the norm. Apologies to any who read that as less-than-polite.
@bwDraco thanks, will check it out.
