I fear we might get a PDS excessive heat warning at some point in the foreseeable future...

1 hour later…
1:07 AM
@bwDraco That was sorta the joke ;)

Bob
1:30 AM

@Bob If that's the case, very serious indeed.
Those things are a pain in the <see matrix>

Bob
@MichaelFrank they're easy, just use a <see matrix>

2:05 AM
... See a question... scroll down... see "One does not" meme....
I apparently do that a loooooot

2:48 AM
Okay, am I going crazy, or does -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue not do what I think it does?
ohwait...
Okay, so apparently the error I'm getting is a terminating error, which can't be silenced that way.

Bob
did you just try to On Error Resume Next?
for shame!

More like "errors are a good thing, so don't show them to me"
But yea, I probably did try that.

A: What causes the laser printer to print all pages with a washed out background?

vallismortisThis answer is almost 7 years too late, but I believe it may be the definitive answer to the washed-out prints on the LaserJet 1200/1300 printers. I recently spent several months trying to find the cause of this problem on my LaserJet 1300 (nearly identical to your LaserJet 1200). I too, had bee...

Well, this is interesting.
Also, that board generates high voltages. The high-voltage power supply board is a common point of failure for laser printers. Use extreme caution when handling that board; it is an electrocution hazard.bwDraco 4 mins ago

Guten Morgen

10:45 AM
Oh hey now
Hyperoptic have done some properties near me
Their ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to their newsletter
1GB symmetric? Yes please

they are tricksy
they will only supply new builds here in manchester

Hmm

and they won't supply outside the city centre

I know they prefer doing flats/apartment buildings
But I think they've done non-huge dwellings here
I think
Might go and check

11:21 AM
1gb symmetric... is basically every ISP here

Aye but if I lived in SG my commute would be haramble
(a not-quite-portmanteau of "horrendous/horrible/terrible" that I'm rather fond of)

welp the end is nigh

public transport works except when it dosen't

BoJo is confirmed as the PM

11:34 AM
Ah, just like the UK then
Except here when it works it only kinda does
And is overpriced
or so it seems

@Burgi condolences

In any case, unless SG has invented teleportation my commute to the UK would be haramble despite even the finest of public transport ;-P
I'll just have to hope ISPs in the UK catch up to ISPs in South Korea in the 2000s

@bertieb spacex promises to get you anywhere in the world in 30 minutes
In a god-<matrix> rocketship

@JourneymanGeek In one piece? or via lithobraking and rapid unplanned disassembly? ;-P

@bertieb yes

11:39 AM
Good to know

though with the latter you might be everywhere in the world

50/50 chance of exploding... I like those odds
toddles off to play the lottery

12:04 PM
Oh my god, c'mon
I just got around to installing the latest version of Windows
And... Sticky notes aren't "sticky" anymore? They're just... normal windows?
How much do you wanna bet that they just couldn't get UWP apps to be "sticky" like the traditional one?
@Burgi whaaaaaaaaaa
Isn't he frequently referred to as the British "Donald Trump"?

12:36 PM
He's not quite as bad in some ways
But YMMV
Kinda tiptoeing on the line of SEchat topic acceptability here :P

> US President Donald Trump also sent his congratulations to Mr Johnson, tweeting: "He will be great!"
Oh dear ...

The former said the latter will be a great PM even before the ballots had closed, IIRC
No secret who he preferred :P

2 hours later…
2:40 PM
@DavidPostill your country should have left EU like 3 months ago instead of this fucking about

Roughly half the country doesn't want to

and then, if Labor won in the next several elections, you could re-join, if the results of brexit were are terrible as pro-EU predicts
@bertieb at this point, I suspect that about half of the both sides have coalesced in the third segment of "just get over with it"

@tereško A fair number will have, though I don't know how many
Dated February, but gives a range of feelings
Unofficial polls are a vexed thing too

I'm still so angry
They f--ed up sticky notes

Since they can have a 0 to 1 mapping to reality

2:46 PM
this is messing with my workflow
I don't like this
ARGH

Welcome to updates
Every change affects somebody's workflow

holy shit I'm so angry I could break something

inb4 someone links XKCD
ninja'd, damn
but no
did they not get the memo?
(pun intended)

Physical violence in response to a software update is a little disproportionate

2:48 PM
Sticky notes actually have to be... sticky

Though I do get feeling mildly furious at seemingly nonsensical changes

@bertieb No I wouldn't say it is. Not when it's completely messing my the workflow that I've had in place in years.
This is why I usually stick to LTSB editions of windows
(cc @Bob)

I have a friend who sticks to Win 8 and refuses to update
But, eh

@bertieb See, that's just it. It's not nonsensical to me. It's a big deal to me.

@rahuldottech I think you have my point backwards- it is nonsensical to make sticky non-sticky
And I get that it's a big deal

2:50 PM
@bertieb oh, yeah

I've used Google products so I am well used to products completely disappearing, never mind changing substantially
Or Adobe going "pay for our stuff forever or you lose access"

So most of my workflow is now Linux
But you can probably find a less painful way to adapt than that
Anyway, I am off to ride my bike because I've had some rather crap news that I'd rather not talk about
Good luck with the replacement :)

@bertieb :/ That sucks. I hope stuff improves for you. Take care.
@bertieb Thanks

@bertieb stay safe.

5:27 PM
Actually, I shouldn't have posted this image. Uh... someone delete it.

@rahuldottech Flagged for mod attention.
👍

cool :)

3 hours later…
8:24 PM
@rahuldottech WELCOME TO BEING A TEENAGER
Also, caps?!

@MichaelFrank caps?

capslock

@MichaelFrank wait I'm lost. What about it?

Besides, sticky notes not being like they were is a good thing.
Now, if you close them by accident, they're still there!

@MichaelFrank i will shoot you

8:28 PM
Oh, I typed in caps.

@MichaelFrank oh, I thought that was intentional, lol
@MichaelFrank they're literally not even sticky anymore

It was intentional ;)

lol okay
I found an alternative tho
And I like it a lot, so far

Okay, so how are they not sticky? Cause... let's be honest, they never were literally sticky.

@MichaelFrank They don't stay on the desktop anymore. Each note is now a tiny separate windows. It's terrible.

8:31 PM
I wonder if the original stikynot.exe from an older system would transfer over easily.

@MichaelFrank apparently it can
> There is a workaround for this, what we did was copy StickyNot.exe from another Windows 10 version prior to 1607 update (located in C:\Windows\System32) and StickyNot.exe.mui (located in C:\Windows\System32\en-US) and then copied them to the same location on our Windows 10 LTSB 2016 system image. Then we placed a shortcut to the desktop for the ones that used it. Once the program is launched it will create the directory C:\Users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\Stick Notes folder and then if needed you can copy that file from the PC that you are migrating and place it in that location (

Ahh, there we go. Problem solved.
Until the next update sees that stikynot.exe is still there and nukes it again.

@MichaelFrank renaming might work.

9:01 PM
Can someone remind me to go buy the WHAM! t-shirt that I liked at h&m in a few hours?
I hoooooooope that it's not out of stock

@rahuldottech O_O you are a fan of WHAM?

@DavidPostill I listen to some of their stuff occasionally, yeah. And I really liked that t-shirt. Why?

@DavidPostill Maybe... ironically?
Oh

9:39 PM
@MichaelFrank Why do new Windows system apps still need to conform to 8.3 file naming?
In today's age of NTFS and long file names, is there still a good technical reason for this?

Pass.
