12:14 AM
4/10

Ave
It's a nintendo switch.

7 inch is the minimum for a tablet
btw, i'm drunk and i've spent 20 minutes outside waiting for the clouds to clear to show my GF the moons of jupiter
idk which of the four they were but you could clearly see 2 of the 4 Galilean moons
at a guess i think they are Ganymede and Europa
those are the brightest two....

Computer, I have 1920 pixels of screen width, you make it fit!

1 hour later…
1:46 AM
@Ave how are you running Android on a Switch? that's freaking awesome!
@MichaelFrank yup, just gotta learn systemd's way of doing things

2:14 AM
@Burgi as long as they are not the moons of Uranus....

3 hours later…
Bob
5:41 AM
@djsmiley2k config management with chef/puppet/ansible/etc? :P
ot just git it yea

BAROO?
Ansible? perks up this is literally my job

6:04 AM
@allquixotic that's something I want to do on my router builds
Seems practical and I can do it now without taking out the network

2 hours later…

3 hours later…
10:47 AM
@Bob I'm not configuring enoug hto make any of those worth it
litterally a rtorrent config + ssh access right now

@djsmiley2k in that case, just backup /etc/ ? ;p

@Burgi that's cool, what time was that?

and dump your package list

@JourneymanGeek nod, cept the rtorrent config was in ~
so, git would be easiest :D
I still don't know how systemd sets up a network

@djsmiley2k horribly....

10:49 AM
:D

As in this machine gets a IP via DHCP

More seriously

but I have no clue how that's happening
> tim@server1:~$ systemctl status systemd-networkd.service
● systemd-networkd.service - Network Service
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-networkd.service; enabled; vendor p
Active: active (running) since Sat 2019-06-15 19:52:27 UTC; 14h ago
Ok, so i seem to be using that at least.

The big question is - how do we reliably detect which of ... 5 different network config methods its using

10:49 AM
Where's it get it's config?

possibly

/etc/systemd/network/ is blank

@djsmiley2k hence that link

Does it just default to 'dhcp all the things!'

cause <insect>ed if I know
/etc/systemd/network/ presumably

10:50 AM
Configuration files are located in /usr/lib/systemd/network
lol why, why why why why why, wtf, why.
systemd you stupid peice of utter and total trash

@djsmiley2k Its a lovely init system

> tim@server1:~$ nano -w /usr/lib/systemd/
boot/ user/
catalog/ user-environment-generators/
logind.conf.d/ user-generators/
system-environment-generators/ user-preset/
tests/

pity about all the other things duct taped on

Hahaha no.
rc is a lovely init system.

Actually
as an init system, I rather like it
and it does some things rc won't do, like automatically restart things
and its actually VERY nice to write units for

10:52 AM
I have not had a problem with systemd

even that wiki doesn't make sense

However, there's this...

> Configuration examples
All configurations in this section are stored as foo.network in /etc/systemd/network/.
WHAT THE ACTUAL? YOU JUST SAID THEY WERE IN /USR/LIB..... aurggggh\qegh[0;[wspveroi' houi@VQG$Ev]_~P£()QE UFQF£WEV
Like seriously guys. We had /etc/ it stores configs, wtf.

@djsmiley2k I don't think that's a real folder name.

lol it 'could' be?

10:55 AM
@MichaelFrank for sanity's sake...

So it's not /etc/systemd/network or the usr lib dir, how the frik is it configuring these interfaces?

I just ignore every part of systemd that's not an init system

If it gets in the way of something I'm running (say systemd.resolved stopping me from running dnsmasq) it goes

@MichaelFrank needs more ""
@JourneymanGeek thats the next step for me
once I understand wtf it's currently doing
because right now, this network came up via black magic and nothing else

10:57 AM
lol

Even with "" surrounding the path it still complained about a missing '

@MichaelFrank Read that status line as frankenserver
Wondered if you'd pinched my monstrosity :P
As we all know though, Frankenstein was the system builder, not the monster

> "Configuration files are located in /usr/lib/systemd/network, the volatile runtime network directory /run/systemd/network and the local administration network directory /etc/systemd/network. Files in /etc/systemd/network have the highest priority. "
So it's kind of a hierarchical system.

11:13 AM
@bertieb Can you even have a ' in a hostname? ;p

@JourneymanGeek shakes magic 8 ball Signs point to no

frankenstein@machine ? ;p

frankenstein-smachine
though you might well ask, "What is a smachine?"

@Bob does not approve of - in hostnames ;p

Well, opinions can differ :P

11:43 AM
I've been too lazy to change it

2 hours later…
Bob
1:41 PM
@JourneymanGeek hm? I don't?
I think it was _ I didn't approve of

oh
Then carry on ;p

2:04 PM
heh
i'm back
i think I'll just ignore it and hope it never goes wrong? :D

2:31 PM
hands @djsmiley2k a towel
I was actually debating getting a buyvm vps again at one point.
Of course @Bob figured out what was wrong, and it was something completely different
and my workaround still makes no sense....

1 hour later…
3:48 PM
> I'm not sure why we laugh at old systems that are still doing their job thirty years later. If anything we should celebrate the resilience and longevity.

Hm. No onebox?
@rahuldottech OS/2 lives!

@JourneymanGeek not the link to a message

2 hours later…
5:33 PM
I went to a castle today!

Bob
6:19 PM
@djsmiley2k I might be looking at cacti
rrdtool hurts my brain
I has bigger graphs now

1 hour later…
7:43 PM
On Debian 9, I have mdadm in RAID 1 in a single partition (underlying devices have another partition to store UEFI boot info)
I booted up into a SuperRescueCD and I am in Gparted. It recognizes the array.
/dev/sda & /dev/sdb are identical: i.imgur.com/JLTNS5n.png
how do I create another partition inside the RAID1 array? I would like to leave 100GB for the root disk and create an LVM for the rest of the disk.
This is the closest answer I found: unix.stackexchange.com/a/454815/18568

You've used the entire space for the single partition
you'd need to shriunk it first, but this should all be asked on the main site, not in chat

8:39 PM
I have an old "server" box sitting on my desk at work doing nothing except running github.com/abishekvashok/cmatrix
