12:00 AM
I was just connected to my home wifi. 25 floors down
@noob write about what you did and what that did. Check with the company before sharing anything. Also check with your advisor

12:30 AM
not sure what is happening here...

i'm moving my software project away from f2ko.de to ZeroNet. If you want to be able to access my project in the future you need to have the ZeroNet client software running.

Hmm.

> Page response time is not limited by your connection speed.

@MichaelFrank ... it's guaranteed to be slower?
Idk
They're incorporating BitTorrent and Bitcoin and Tor?

no need for tor I suspect

@JourneymanGeek yeah apparently it's optional?
Idk what to think of this tbh.

sounds terrible ;p

5:21 AM
Hm. Clearnet proxy at 0net.xyz

Its alllll the hipster buzzwords at once

@JourneymanGeek I suppose it has some uses for cases that require extreme anonymity, but the only advantage I see over plain ol' Tor is that you (apparently) have multiple peers to host the website

@rahuldottech "bitcoin cryptography".... whuuut?
the BT bit I can get - they actually use some of the underlying tech for a pretty decent file sync service

> Your account is protected by the same cryptography as your Bitcoin wallet.
I mean. It seems like a big mess to get working and maintain
> Decentralized domains using Namecoin cryptocurrency.
> Browse the sites you're seeding even if your internet connection is down.
Not really seeding if your internet connection is down, now are you?
Hmm. Some interesting stuff.

> I worked for a company that had a similar take on spending. The company was extremely profitable and brought in greater than 1 billion dollar in revenue. Yet any PO that was greater than $100 needed approval by the CEO. Not only that, the PO had to be typed on a manual typewriter (this is 2007) using carbon paper, and hand-delivered to a number of people to start moving up the chain. The process intentionally took MONTHS for the approval to go through.
This resulted in engineers that would purchase their own equipment and bringing it to work to use because they couldn't wait a month for a

5:40 AM
lol
@rahuldottech I used to bring my own laptop to my last job
No one minded. Actually, my boss was all "erm, can I borrow your laptop? The company issued one sucks, and I need to configure $thing"

Is there a browser addon that actually permits the browser to download the ads, but will cover them to make them unseen by the user? This way, the website will get ad money, but the user will not be distracted.

might be a question for sr.se ;)

5:55 AM
@CowperKettle ad nauseum

6:11 AM
@rahuldottech Thank you, I'll look into it. I have some news websites I'm sympathetic to, so I might enable this for them.

Woooo! GMail has a feature similar to bundles now!

Bundles?

11:32 AM
as in the 'social' 'promotions' etc stuff?

11:42 AM
Bundles would group similar emails together smartly.
It's not perfect, but you can set your own types of bundles now.

@MichaelFrank Lucky you. No option here to add categories ...

Those are custom labels, but you can select them under options > more options.

12:04 PM
@MichaelFrank My gmail does not have options > more options.

12:22 PM
pretty sure i had all that stuff before

Yeah. Those are just extra labels. Nothing to do with Bundles (whatever they are).

Oh i'm thinking of catagories

@djsmiley2k You have the same categories as me. @MichaelFrank must be on some gmail a/b testing or something.

It's what everyone was complaining about when they killed Inbox off

@rahuldottech What ever. @djsmiley2k and myself don't seem to have them. And before you ask I don't want them. Given I only get a handful of emails every day I don't need any other stupid way to sort them. They can just stay in my inbox for me to deal with.

12:35 PM
might be a test
they do want to move inbox features to the mainline clients

Well I will just have to fire up Agent again :)

@DavidPostill sure, w/e

I only want my gmail (webmail) sorted into notspam and spam. My brain is used to sort notspam if necessary. Not some google AI.
If google starts messing about with my inbox I will 1/ find a new email provider 2/ autoforward all my gmail somewhere else 3/ Retrieve my email as I used to do many years ago with Forte Agent and deal with it locally.

1:41 PM
@rahuldottech I did have it before

@djsmiley2k I think politics played their game to forge manipulated Eurovision rating. Something was not right...
Russian guy was better than first two performers.

> “Moving forward, we’ll deliver a single consumer and developer experience through the Google Assistant.”
...until 18 months from now when the Android team has more political sway and we announce “Android Home”, a new unified home automation platform to bring all your devices together in one easy to use system, which will allow you to turn your lights off by simply blinking into one of the many Google cameras mounted in your home.

This will be followed in 2022 with the new “Chrome@Home” platform, which will revolutionize home automation by letting you send and receive Morse code messagess
Lol trust @ 0%

3:35 PM
hmnmmm a peicve of this lego set seems to be genuinely missing :O

3:46 PM
bnope it fell in the bin :D

4:46 PM
@Boris_yo i wanted norway or iceland to win
tho who won in the end, i've forgotten now?

5:12 PM
Netherlands?
@MichaelFrank @DavidPostill @djsmiley2k I can see those options if I set 'Inbox type' to 'Priority' under settings → Inbox
Also, in 'Advanced' there's another similar sounding thing:
> Multiple Inboxes
Add extra lists of emails in your inbox to see even more important emails at once. The new lists of threads can be labels, your starred messages, drafts or any search you want, configurable under Settings.

@bertieb oh yah

Ah. It's probably multiple inboxes then. Not going there ;)

Thought experiment. If I change ~10000 files from Windows CRLF to Unix LF, will it save ~1K disk space?

@Biswapriyo ehhhh. Idk about that. Look up "minimum allocation size"
63
Q: What "allocation unit size" should I use for a drive with a single NTFS partition?

Andrew KeetonI'm formatting a 1TB external hard drive as a single NTFS partition. This drive is mainly meant for storing media. Should I choose something other than the default allocation unit size? The options range from 512 bytes to 64K. Are there any guidelines that I should use with partitions storing...

I don't know much about this, but if my understanding is correct, if the allocation size is, say, 1KB, then it doesn't matter how much smaller your file is, it will take up 1KB disk space.
So the size of files you're talking about will okay an important role here.
Also, how many newlines does each file have?

@rahuldottech Thought experiment ;)

IMPORTANT THREAD:
Dozens of friends of mine have Huawei phones
So now Android will break on all of them, with no Google Play or Play Services?
> Android WebView, the browser update component and the primary real-world security update mechanism of Android, is distributed via the Play Store.
Play Protect, how Google monitors malware and government spyware on Android, is distributed via the Play store.

8:29 PM
dfe#rcbs
@rahuldottech that's gonna be.... not fun for everyone.
sigh

1 hour later…
9:43 PM
I have a Huawei phone. :|
In fact, my work phone is also Huawei.

10:02 PM
@DavidPostill I'm not using Multiple Inboxes. Here's a more expanded screenshot...
Actually, never mind. Expanded the screenshot wouldn't change anything.
Either way, the settings I posted are under the Inbox settings, not the Labels settings.

10:25 PM
@rahuldottech They shouldn't be affected
as it affects 'new phones'
though with the caveat that it's a developing situation
and it could change, I guess

What about security patches?
What about OS updates?

> Details of the specific services affected by the suspension were still being discussed internally at Google, according to the source.
So... not sure
It's possible that would include OS updates
Dunno about sec patches

They literally cut them off from everything except AOSP though, right?

> But users of existing Huawei devices who have access to the Google Play Store will still be able to download app updates provided by Google. Apps such as Gmail are updated through the store, unlike operating system updates which are typically handled by phone manufacturers and telecoms carriers, which the blacklist could affect, the source said.

> Huawei is now restricted to using the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), cutting the company off from critical Google apps and services that consumers outside of China expect on Android devices. That also means Huawei will only be able to push security updates for Android once they’re made available in AOSP, assuming the company uses its own update system.

10:33 PM
Dunno
Seems like everyone is re-reporting the same Reuters report in slightly different ways

10:44 PM
le sigh
Huawei is now on a denied entities list.
No wonder. It would be illegal for Google to work with them.

Google could literally buy The United States. I'm pretty sure they have the cash for that.
They can make their own damn rules!

With blackjack! And hookers!

And play stores

11:46 PM
@bertieb it will include any and all OS updates, and updates to Google apps and services.
