@SimonSheehan actually....
@SimonSheehan I need to search the transcript but Bob runs a setup with ubiquity APs and iirc an edgerouter
If your main router is ok - I've had good luck with the tenda mw6 as a budget mesh option

for range, upgrading won't do much good

The 'higher' speed is mostly on the 5ghz range, which doesn't penetrate walls as well
2.4 ghz in most cases "matters" more than 5ghz if your wireless needs tweaking.

7:55 AM
Just stick a 5GHz AP in every room.

with a wired backbone? that would be awesome
but actually require you to plan for a geek household

Bob
@JourneymanGeek yup, wired backbone is what you want (cc @SimonSheehan)
barring that, a repeater is possibly the only option but that kinda sucks
I'd also note that Unifi APs can do wireless uplink

@Bob that's actually one really nice thing about the current mesh stuff I have

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Eh, mesh isn't really much more than a fancy word for repeater
BUt, yea. Unifi is mostly for the configuration and integration. You can do a similar setup with most advanced APs.
Simple (read: cheapest) consumer models might not.

9:05 AM
@Bob and simpler config. And they're roughly equally capable machines, though repeaters vary madly
but the tenda gear will do wired backbone, which some more espensive "mesh" routers won't

Arduinos are fun!
