@rahuldottech its official
@bertieb yes

wiped 3 disks. they're 3.5 inch, sub 500gb but no SMART issues or odd noises so I donno if they're worth keeping

1:12 AM
@JourneymanGeek Been there, done that.
Not sure if this is the case for you, but I've got enough 500 GB-class SSDs that these sorts of drives are useless to me, even as external storage.

Pretty much why I wiped them
And I have a slight excess of 1tb laptop drives
At the same time I have an aversion to throwing out stuff that works

1:37 AM
Same here - got two laptop hard drives, 750 GB WD Black and 640 GB WD Blue, both of which are currently used for system images.

2:08 AM
@JourneymanGeek I've been running Android 9.0 Pie since last month.

@bwDraco oh this is the long awaited stock release
@bwDraco these drives are mostly gathering dust

looking for a good tool (preferably open-source) to check and repair bad sectors...
I suspect system drive (C:) having bad sector... what should I do? (chkdsk seems not reliable)

5:40 AM
EaseUS Partition Master shows ^^
What should I do?
It's system (C:) drive on which Windows 10 is installed.

6:26 AM
@Pandya bin the drive, get a new one
not necessarily in that order

7:07 AM
make backups too. If you haven't already
If a modern drive is showing bad sectors, considering there's some onboard stuff to minimise it... its usually a very bad thing
and one does not repair bad sectors
they mark them as bad and hope there's no more

What the hell is up with everyone on this planet man

@rahuldottech retroactive birth control

@JourneymanGeek tbh it wouldn't be a bad thing if all humans were just wiped off the planet.

1:47 PM
Quite a lot of animals would die

2:35 PM
@bertieb if humans were wiped off? How?

2:57 PM
A good deal of domesticated ones would

3:12 PM
@bertieb Eh. Yeah, maybe. But in the long run, every other organism will be better off with us gone.

lol
ok

3:29 PM
Hey so it turns out that I have very toxic levels of Vitamin D in my blood
And my kidney and liver might be affected
So this is amazing

0_o
How much is very toxic?
Weren't you taking supplements?

@bertieb Yeah, apparently I took too much? Or my body doesn't know how to deal with vit D?
In either case. At least we now know for sure that my crippling body pain isn't due to a goddamned vit D deficiency
Apparently the lab had to test my blood three times to confirm that the levels were accurate?
ha. idk.

> command mode
(??)

5:46 PM
@rahuldottech A shell where you can enter commands on the command line? As distinct from a .ps1 script?

@DavidPostill Yeah, but I've never heard it called a "mode" before

6:06 PM
@rahuldottech What was the level, out of interest?

Hi everyone, been a bit, so hope all the familiar faces are doing well. Currently looking into some routing upgrading - as much as I'd love to do an elaborate setup in my parents home with a few access points, it isn't quite feasible at this time. Spent a bit re-positioning an Archer C7 around the home in a few spots to see how coverage varied. Currently found a nice spot, but it's JUST pushing the range to the bedrooms. Was wondering if simply upgrading to a better unit (AC2900 or so)
Would give it just enough range. Any thoughts?

You may want to consider Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) if you're upgrading. That will better prepare you for next-generation devices, enabling higher performance and improved security.
It doesn't mean that functional 802.11ac equipment should be replaced, just that if you're upgrading, you should get the latest tech unless you're on a limited budget. This is generally the case for most electronics.

@bwDraco A fair idea. Although I'm not sure I'm quite ready to drop a minimum of $500 on a router currently - only issue.

Alternatively, consider an extender.
Also, long time no see.

That's an option. See, speeds up there are not necessarily extremely necessary - we're just looking for half decent coverage to do the occasional netflix, etc.
Haha, thanks! It's been a bit, life's changed a lot :)

We have a NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S EX7500 extender for better coverage towards the back of the house.

Woah, that's a fancy unit. A lot different from the cheap cheap ones I'm used to seeing that many people buy

7:51 PM
Glorified selfie stick :p
(Gitzo GM2562T Series 2 Traveler monopod with Sunwayfoto CPC-02 phone clamp)
I could put my Arca-Swiss Monoball on it if I needed a better angle...
$600 selfie stick, anyone? ;)
(more seriously, I use this as a sports photographer to handle a big DSLR camera with 70-200mm lens)

8:17 PM
@rahuldottech Yea, that sounds like something from a "Beginners Guide to Windows Adminsitration: Fundamental" course.
