Interesting. So there was a beep service?
I wonder if it's still possible to configure Windows to use a PC speaker for beeps...

Q: How to make the PC speaker beep from the Windows 7 command prompt?

oKtosiTeI'm running some lengthy video encodes using the Handbrake command line interface. After all my encodes are done, I would like to have the PC speaker beep, as I usually turn my large external speakers off. On Linux I would install the "beep" package, but so far I haven't found such a program f...

That's... disappointing.

Ughh.. YouTuber, why would you put your newest videos at the top of your build playlist?

Got a massive backlog of NYTimes articles to catch up on.

Looks like HP will be first to Picasso, just as they were to Raven Ridge.
The HP ENVY x360 13 will still have no Intel option. The 15" model will be available with a choice of Intel or AMD processors.
Perhaps more interestingly... HP is launching a 17" variant of the non-convertible ENVY mainstream laptop with an optical drive. This feature has basically gone the way of the dodo on most consumer laptops.
I suspect HP's continued choice of AMD processors in the 13" ENVY x360 lies in being able to hit a desired price point, as this is meant to be their least expensive (semi-)premium convertible laptop. Although I'm not sure whether AMD's improved their idle power enough to catch up with Intel on battery life, seeing more AMD hardware out there is very encouraging.
They've actually sold quite well at the local electronics store.
(do bear in mind that Intel is still grappling with a 14nm processor shortage, which is making it difficult for OEMs to get low-end Intel chips; this explains why AMD Bristol Ridge and Raven Ridge processors have been getting increasingly common over the last year in entry-level machines)
What I do like about this machine is its support for charging via USB Power Delivery and the USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports (despite the spec sheet saying that they're USB 3.1 Gen 1).

I'm (or will be) writing my own Android browser. Can anyone provide an unique name for it?

If we did, it wouldn't be unique

Throw in a couple "69"s and "420"s somewhere in there too for maximum appeal to millennials

> By the time people who use earbuds regularly turn 23 they'll have lost about 40% of their hearing.
Well shit

surely that depends on how loud your listening
or maybe you loose about 40% by 25 anyway?
For example...

A new analysis from a nationally representative health interview and examination survey found that nearly one in four (24 percent) of U.S. adults aged 20 to 69 years has features of his or her hearing test in one or both ears that suggest noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).

you'd expect them to only allow UK IP addresses to fill out the form
i mean the BBC does it with the iplayer
yes i know VPNs exist but you also need a valid UK postcode

@JourneymanGeek I can't find many over-ear headphones on Amazon India and am considering getting these: amazon.in/Audio-Technica-Sonic-ATH-AX1iS-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/…
Thoughts?

@Burgi There are British citizens elsewhere, I guess?
I've no idea re Russians, could probably make some case for "anything that causes disorder in political systems of UK/EU is a win for Russia" but I'm no international relations analyst

@JourneymanGeek was that your student flat?

@Burgi yup

.... They changed the postal code...
Who changes postal codes

I'm starting to think there's no such place as 'Bristol' after all!

12:32 PM
@JourneymanGeek The Post Office revises postal codes quite frequently. One example is that new developments get temp postal codes and when completed they get new ones (that are usually the same excepts for the last 2 letters). Causes havoc as the builders register the utility (gas and electric) supplies using the temp postcodes in the national databases ...

my old flat had 3 postcodes
the post office had it as 0AF, google had it as 0HS and the original postcode was 0HE

Hmm. Looks like I shouldn't be affected.
But then again, I've got some password management changes planned to make it easier to change and maintain passwords.
