(wonders if anyone else is old enough to have had a crush on phoebe cates ;p)
@allquixotic if it was a bit more discriptive, I would pin it
(post again, make it clear what it is. And its doooooone)

Ah. Excellent.

3:12 AM
Morning
@allquixotic it's fun listening to the different accents!
https://t.co/a8OkTutoFL

@Rahul2001 Totally
I hope you'll contribute yours, too -- there's a huge diversity of accents in India in my experience, and the speech recognizers of the future need your input

India is a massive market for technology that must not be underestimated.

3:27 AM

Something went wrong.

I'm reading Git and it's unclear whether the develop branch is supposed to be branched off of master or if there's some way to "make two master branches". Advice?

branch off master
you might be able to add an empty branch, but... why?
well, not really.
branches can be from master or any other branch. Or commit, iirc

@allquixotic I should do it simply cause I break most voice rec

3:46 AM
Thanks Avery.

I was listening to some of the responses in Mozilla Common Voice and I see a quality difference in the recordings, which I suppose is one of the main issues with open recording. Lots of clicking or background noise in some of them.

@allquixotic of course I will! :D

@Anon234_4521 which is realistic
ugh. I hate access
@Anon234_4521 which is realistic
I have one specific system where access runtime 2016 keeps crashing for no apparent reason
on one specific account too

@JourneymanGeek o_O
it's probably a corrupted DB file
Access tends to corrupt its own DB very often

4:02 AM
@allquixotic confirmed it works on another account on the same PC

@JourneymanGeek HKCU Access reg keys corrupted?

hmm
hm
maaaybe
export the keys, delete, reinstall?

or just export, delete, and let Access regenerate them

nope :(
nope :(

hey.. how do i reboot in windows 10.. without hard rebooting. I dont want to risk running grub, which defaults to ubuntu, which is currently broken. if I accidentally hard reboot, then I wont be able to boot to windows because my hdmi TV doesnt work during the initial stages of boot, my laptop monitor is broken

logout & relog?

A: How to soft-restart Windows Server 10 Technical Preview?

Ryan RiesC:\> shutdown.exe /soft /r /t 0 For a "soft" reboot. The /t 0 simply means "do it immediately (0-second delay.)" You will also find the Powershell equivalent is: Restart-Computer -Soft But of course, the -Soft parameter is not documented yet, because tech preview.

dunno if that still works as intended

Bob
hm
@satibel, are you around?

seems like soft restart is only a feature of Windows Server 2016
sucks

Bob
@allquixotic lol, I upvoted taht question & answer at some point but I don't remember it at all
@allquixotic semi-official (mod) says not supported in release social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/…

mods aren't official, really.
just active people

Bob
5:39 AM
@Avery I was trying to figure out how official he was -_-
can't be worse than the MVPs answering on MS answers

6:11 AM
Hey guys, anybody know an application where I can just plug in a bunch of urls and bulk download videos

Bob
@Skyler Depends. What kind of URLs do you have? Direct links to video files? Links to some web video player?

its interesting, if you enter the link to a browser it redirects you to the pages but if you put it in many online converters it grabs the video
theyre hosted on wistia

Bob
@Skyler Got an example link?

just want to be able to take the stuff im enrolled to take with me for an offline escapade

Bob
@Skyler Not a direct video link, and also seems to require authentication.

6:18 AM
but, if you put it in to a website like clipconverter you can get the video

Bob
Vague guess: you might have to manually visit each page and start a download. Right click the video in e.g. Firefox and you should get a "save video" option.
@Skyler They they probably recognise thesevideos specially and do something with them
*shrug*

its a bit worse, wistia blocks the right click options on these videos
actually im lucky enough that the right clicking actaully gave me those url, otherwise if you right click before the wistia overlay you'd notice these videos are actually a server query from some crazy url, and that the page suppresses html inspection

Bob
@Skyler Then use the "show page media" option

ah, where is that located

Bob
@Skyler Firefox, right click on page => Show Page Info
Chrome, open devtools and it should be on the left under the Application tab

6:27 AM
oh snap that works well
now if i found a common pattern is there anyway I can set up script to do this for me

Bob
@Skyler if you can find such a pattern... yes
You can chuck the direct links into any download manager
They don't seem to require authentication
Otherwise, you can chuck them all into a text file, and loop through them calling curl on each
e.g. on Linux
xargs -n 1 curl -O < urls.txt

hoho, sadly im windows but thats a good command to know
i can always bust open the VM

Bob
@Skyler There's similar commands on Windows :P
something like, in PowerShell

yea

Bob
Get-Content urls.txt | %{ Invoke-WebRequest $_ }
(or shorthand cat urls.txt | %{ wget $_ })
But you'd need a list of direct links to the MP4 files
if there's not too many, I'd get them manually
if there's very many, you can script/scrape the video player pages (much like those sites you found probably do), but I can't help you with that cause those pages need a login

6:34 AM
one annoying little thing is it wants to name everything file.mp4

Bob
@Skyler I don't think there's any way to get a good name without doing the scripted/scrape thing mentioned earlier
At best, you can use that hash
e.g. 3e34d689819c59406ca4bbb530937aec30c5f948

yea, i actually found a program that parses that first link i sent you but it only allowed 2 downloads before the trial ended
theres always something, ya know?
the first link actually saves the videos name

Bob
@Skyler it'd be pretty easy to write something similar, but... login requirement.
:P

hm
This interests me buuuut it fails the "Have they released anything before" test

6:55 AM
Okay wtf
I've been wanting to create a bank account for like three weeks
But it's closed on weekends and it's closed on weekdays by the time I return from school

Bob
11:42 AM
no, the magic smoke will leak out

assuming its board down, sure
get off my lawn

Bob
lol

@JourneymanGeek That's ambiguous. Do you mean motherboard face up or face down?

@DavidPostill you're old enough to know ;p

@JourneymanGeek Yes. but @Rahul2001 may not be :)

11:52 AM
(face up so the heat sink isn't pulling down on the motherboards)

12:03 PM
@DavidPostill I'm not that dumb -_-
@JourneymanGeek k thx :)

in fact... that is what a desktop is

@Mokubai BUT MY CHILD TIER PLAN IS STILL VALID FOR TWO MORE YEARS!!
Don't force all your adulty stuff on my innocence
@JourneymanGeek are the heatsinks and fans which business and regular home use machines ship with usually good enough?

ehh
yeah
You only really need the fancy stuff for overclocking

Bob
or quietness

I've actually run my system on a stock intel heatsink for years
yup
You can totally put a laptop lapdog sideways too.

12:29 PM
It was like $14 or something...
Gives me good temps!
Was a real pain in the rear to put on though...

12:41 PM
that looks like it has somewhat less mass than the intel stock heatsinks

YAAY!
22-meter long Ethernet cable is working!

1:00 PM
@JourneymanGeek Yea, it probably does. I just didn't have the stock Intel cooler around anymore :(
@Rahul2001 I'll be putting in a 40-50m cable tomorrow.

@MichaelFrank coo

It needs to connect two devices that are probably 10-15 metres apart... but I can't go directly between them >.<

@Rahul2001 Are you a pigeon? a dove?

1:43 PM
why wouldn't it work tho @Rahul2001

@djsmiley2k he wasn't sure ;p

2:04 PM
YAYAYAYAYAYAY
Successfully relocated server
Okay crap
This ISP gives brilliant speeds, but is asking for USD 150 for a Static IP
Current ISP takes 12

sounds about right

@JourneymanGeek The 150 USD?

@JourneymanGeek Whaaa

Static IPs are pricy

2:13 PM
@JourneymanGeek I get it for 12!?

sure its actually static?

@JourneymanGeek Yep

ah, nice then

@JourneymanGeek But not good speed

hm, there's workarounds? ;p

2:14 PM
@JourneymanGeek I don't think this is too good for a server?

eh, depends on what you run

@JourneymanGeek Web, ssh, ftp?
Maybe a private streaming thingy
And perhaps a Halo server

ehh, I've run some PRETTY shitty servers in my time

@JourneymanGeek That upload speed is manageable?

hmm
I've done worse
but shit was simpler then
but eh, not really

2:18 PM
@JourneymanGeek :/

@Bob FYI. Mods cannot do an account merge.

@Bob should know this ;p
It has been mentioned

Bob
@JourneymanGeek @DavidPostill Sorry... I keep forgetting -_-

@Bob However you can comment :)
> It looks like you have created a second account, which will also interfere with your ability to comment within your thread and to accept an answer. See How can one link/merge/combine/associate two accounts/users? and/or I accidentally created two accounts; how do I merge them? for guidance on how to merge your accounts.

@DavidPostill ...you know, I just realised I don't seem to have the pro-forma comments addon anymore
hmm
wonder where it went

Q: AutoReviewComments - Pro-forma comments for SE

Someone try to access 122.176.51.152 please
Is it working?

no

@Bob Port forwarding isn't working, for some reason

@Rahul2001 what ports do you want people to try to access?

@ToxicFrog 80, for now

Bob
@Rahul2001 make sure your firewall allows that port
or that application (if Windows)

3:05 PM
@Bob ok wait wtf

And that the server is binding to the right interface

Why does this PC have McAfee
ewww
This has got to be the crappiest uninstaller that I've ever seen

Wait, you can uninstall it these days without whole OS reinstallation?

@Hennes I... think?

And only partially joking here. Win98 requires that much manual work that a reinstallation was easier and safer.
Well, mcafree win98 era.

3:11 PM
Okay it worked
Installing Windows updates now

Packets are getting stuck at 182.79.177.127

5 of 127...

@Rahul2001 also some ISPs block port 80
and if you're on windows... it uses port 80 for modernui stuff
so for testing, using a non standard port is good

@DavidPostill Should work now, test again? :)

3:16 PM
Also a lot of home routers block ping/traceroute
So even if port forwarding is working ping won't necessarily
Which is why I asked what port you wanted people to test

@ToxicFrog Well, I got it to work :)

Does anyone have ideas of possible themes for a technology oriented competition?
Last year was Technology: A weapon of peace

What sorts of things would go on in the competition?
Or is that determined by the theme?

@BenN nope
The theme is just used for the discussion and creative events

Ah. What kind of events/technologies are involved?

Competition has:
A/V editing
3D design
Web Design and Development
Programming
Hacking
Group Discussion (somewhat like a debate)
etc.
Oh, also movie making

5:59 PM
How about The Sword Cuts Both Ways?
What with all the privacy/security concerns

@BenN ah
I like the privacy/security idea
Other phrases for it?

Hm, maybe something about who controls/sees things?

@BenN yep
I'll think about it
Gtg now, goodnight :)
Drop messages if you get any ideas and ping me :)

Alrighty

around 22:00 - 23:00 slamming Vega... yay...

7:48 PM
Vega isn't all that promising, sadly.

I guess it'll be amazing for mining Ethereum but I dunno what else
I remember when the Radeon HD5970 destroyed what Nvidia could offer for months
Evergreen was king of the GPU world
they've gotten progressively less competitive gen over gen since Evergreen
from a virtual tie with the 6970 and 7970, to starting to slip a bit with the 290X, then really slipping, then basically a joke and having no answer whatsoever to the original Pascal

8:05 PM
who's got youtube red?

AMD is still severely underfunded.
Hopefully, EPYC will help, but I'm still very worried.
There have been signs of improvement since the launch of Ryzen, but they're still low on cash.
Anyone here have the FX-9590 (4M/8T Vishera (Piledriver) @ 4.7-5.0 GHz, 220W)?
I'm eager to see their Q2 earnings report, expected on the 25th.

8:33 PM
@djsmiley2k me

9:16 PM
@djsmiley2k me

did one of you say it gave you google music access too?
Or did I imagine this whole thing

It's kinda the other way around?
But yea, basically.
> As an added bonus, your YouTube Red membership includes (when available in your country) a free subscription to Google Play Music, with access to its extensive catalog of music. If you’re already a Google Play Music subscriber, you’ll receive a free YouTube Red membership.

hmmm so i am paying for google music
oh wait
i'm on the free month trial because it gave me another trial
maybe that's why -- does youtube red remove adverts?

Yea. You also get access to YouTube Music, and Red Originals.

hmmm
weird I'm still seeing adverts

9:20 PM
There is a free version of Google Music. Maybe you're just on that?
What do it say your account type is here?

I know about the free one
I signed up for premium
Account type: Unlimited, Individual

Interesting... Account type: YouTube Red member
I get that.

:/
How much you pay for red?
ah
youtube music != google music

Yea, correct.
But I get it all.
GMusic, YTMusic, Red.

but you can go into google music, listen to any track ever? (including ones you've not uploaded?)
. :/
so how much?

9:24 PM
Not sure... $12.99 p/m maybe?
Ahh $9.99NZD
What do you see there?
It might be that you need to activate Red on your account.
You can see your subscriptions to Google products here: payments.google.com/payments/home
I see YouTube Red

> ouTube Red isn’t available in United Kingdom, but here's a sneak peek of our original shows
that'll be wehy then xD

I thought it was, as I see premium content with charges against it, sometimes
onl.y like £1.19?

I see those, but I don't think I see a price on 'em

oh sweet
i've managed to set my payment for my google drive, to use my play credit
which I earn constantly from them sending me surveys
thanks google!"

9:29 PM
Ha, now there's something I can't get. :(

hehe
welp that's at least explained then haha
it's annoying, because previously I had something else
Google Music All Access
which also blocked the adverts
but they stopped that ://

2 hours later…
11:25 PM

@bwDraco I don't think it's available in my country

New Zealand :(
