7:01 PM
both of those specific cards have custom PCBs, custom cooling solutions and custom overclocks, and all you do is throw at me a synthetic benchmark for stock cards and call it a day

Works for me :-) there is a lot of relativity involved, same chip same capability smaller board, not the same possible cooling on either compared to 2 or 3 fan setup.

also, I would like that the linked site aggregates user submissions with no control for the rest of setup
=(

1000 cudas is about as good as 1500 streams of the other, they are in somewhat the same classes. Which leaves things like you want Stereoscopic 3d ? like ATIs implementation of eyefinity for multimon? Do you have lots of CPU leftoever to process physx in cpu or not?

what community is hopelessNoob trying to be a mod of?

@Psycogeek ATI was bought by AMD few yours ago .. btw :)

7:10 PM
more then a few years ago :$

Do you need to be singey on power ? Do you like AMD drivers :-P are you used to using Nvidia drivers instead.
Do the games you play recommend one over the other? Do users prefer one over the other for the games you will play?

I don't know. Not my build. I was just hoping to find second opinion for those two cards

I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 motherboard. How do I go about checking to see if it has video input ports? And yes, the monitor is plugged into the back of the graphics card with a DVI cable. — Alex Barnes 2 mins ago
any ideas?

Q: New AMD R9 270X GPU isn't recognized by Windows 7 x64 - UPDATED

Alex BarnesI just bought a Sapphire Radeon R9 270X graphics card and installed it. The installer on the driver installation CD it came with only shows this list of compatible cards though - it doesn't include the 270X at all. I tried using the CD anyway, and I still ended up (1) not having Windows Aero ef...

there we go....
His card isn't even being detected from the looks of it
well it is but just as a generic device lol

@Ramhound, ya know, when you press arrow-up, you can edit your previous lines, if they are not older than 2 min

really? good to know

7:18 PM
yea sorry about the ATi but i have 3 ATI cards still, and even the newest ones still use implementations of ATIs original software design.
Even shows ATI in some of the dlls and stuff still.

@Ramhound my first thought is: did he plug the power in ?

But I would switch to Nvidia , at the drop of a dime, just never had the lower price per performace at the time.

If he didn't would the card still work to the point that he receives a display and it would be detected as a display device?

anyone cares to run an experiment ?

How much does it pay ?

7:25 PM
@Ramhound I would just ask him to make a photo showing how the card is plugged in

I find it funny that the next best thing will be limited to 4GB yet we have brand new games that suffer with only 4GB :$

Oh and one more thing that could be important between the 2 cards, Which one has better linux drivers and makes linux people happier. when that is an issue it could be very important.

@Ramhound are you talking about 390x ?

Yeah, just in gneeral
GTA 5 is doing 4k but requires something like 12GB to do 60 fps

that's not how it works

7:28 PM
How does what work?

the FPS is not affected by size of framebuffer

Alright let me rephrase that statmenet
In order to do 4k at 60 FPS it requires multiple GPUs and more VRAM then 4GB,
I know how SLI and Crossfire work today

the memory need is mostly about the texture memory stuff, so 4K games are going to punch out primodonna textures to match the res better ?

DX12 will change the game.
I guess my point is that 4GB once was enough but we have already exceeded and received games that use 4GB of VRAM like its nothing

GTA5 is optimized like shit .. that's a different issue

7:31 PM
True.
I know no other game that can do 5k though
granted you need $5k worth of GPUs to do it

Shadow of Mordor (at 3440x1440 with high-res texture pack) eat 6GB vRAM
that is called 3k resolution by marketing people
but .. assuming that, at 4K it shouldnt take more than 8GB

So the 390 which is the best card AMD has, the newest card, can't do 3k on a game released last year?

Well crimp my style, does that mean i will have to continue playing $5-10 games (last years) for a while :-)

I understand the the problem is how SLI and Crossfire actually work. You put 4x cards each with 4GB vram and you end up with 4GB of VRAM :$

the announcement was that "first 390x cards will have 4GB"
the are doing the "new 3D ram stack" thing

7:34 PM
Yes, the first generation will be limited to 4GB which means 12-18 months relastically before the next refreash of products

not sure about that one

I forgot to point out I had a point
Nvidia is smart to wiat for the 2nd generation

keep in mind that this all is rumours and bullshit
also, the photos of that 390x card looked like microITX-compatible form factor

4GB thing isn't a rumor :$ AMD has confirmed it. 12-18 pipeline is what I estimate it actually will become
Hopefully these new cards from AMD using the new memory will offer something mroe then memroy bandwidth
Because 4GB VRAM is nothing
Yes, I realize how strange that is
I use to wish I had a 4MB card.
So i could play the first Hitman

/me has an 8GB card

7:37 PM
I don't have 4k displays so I will be fine for awhile
plus with DX12 I will get the added benefit of the 4000HD

well, I have that "3k" display
it is awesome glorious

so instant performance boost :-)

here's the kicker: even biggest nvidia fanboys await 390x, because it might means price-drop for titanX

I go with what has the best bang for the buck
Being limited to 4GB at $500 price point sort of rules that out $

btw, what if AMD is banking on DX12 and memory sharing

7:40 PM
Yeah, indeed
All depends on companies behind games like Batman and Witcher 3 doing patches though

they say that the memody bandwith on the 390x will be 128-256GB/s because of that new RAM
that's kinda insane

if they have to load up 6+gig of stuff to the video card, is that going to mean way longer Loading times again?
(yuck)

@Psycogeek PCI-e 2.0 has 8GB/s bandwidth
3.0 has 30+GB/s
that is not the bottleneck

it is 3.0 now + SSd for loads and yea that aint a bottle neck, but they can sure be slow sometimes.
My 7950 has only 3 Gig , and the Intel is turned off, so why windows says " 6912 MB Total available graphics memory 7.9 "
I was just trying to see where i stand in this Bleed me for more funds contest .
Ahh, shared system, heck i thought that went out with AGP

you have it in crossfire with an APU ?
or are you on a laptop

7:52 PM
no APU is disabled, but it could be the assessment was done when it existed?

is desktop, and all indications are trying to get the APU to farm a few frames is a waste, if you have halfway descnet video card.

7950 is not really what I would describe as "decent"

You don't have a APU, you have a iGPU there is a difference, the Intel Core arch are not APUs.
I wish I could invite this user into the chatroom even though they have 1 reputation

the can come in
they just cannot talk

7:58 PM
( what good is that )

asked around
in general the BIOS should stop the boot, if GPU is not pluged in
but I didn't get a second verification

@Ramhound yes intel On-Die GPu thing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_processing_unit Notice da wiki allows us to call it an apu too.
APUs can also include video processing and other application-specific accelerators. Examples include AMD Accelerated Processing Unit, Cell, Intel HD Graphics, and NVIDIA's Project Denver.

I am not sure I agree that AMD APU is the same as a Cell and the current arch of Intel's iGPU.

and after all the wiki is all knowing
Pay no attemtion to the man behind the computer

i would agree that used to be the case perhaps

8:05 PM
"image not found"

imgur.com/a/18piy - is a picture of the cable, I just a single pci-e power cable not the two he needs

@Psycogeek please tell me that it is a joke-site

@tereško Could be it is a 7970 will play all these games on highest settings minus say highest shadows. on one of the monitors 1920x1200.

@Psycogeek ok, ok, that card is actually quite good
=P

8:12 PM
good lord....tell me why Quicken is the only thing out there. I wanted to link my brokage account and it fails, telling me a new an account with my firm, yet i have an account.

@tereško It was not about the site, it was just the pictures, of the wizard of wiki and the man behond the curtian.

Why or why did MS stop doing MS MOney :-(
But I am orderin Surge so I am happy :$
didnt read the directions ;$

Q: Liquid Cooling Name-Brand Laptop

FrankLensCan liquid cooling be added to name brand laptops (Dell, HP, Asus, etc) to keep them cooler?

And that is why i dont have a laptop :-) I would be modding the thing untill it was ruined, not nessisarily water, but i bet it would fit in a breifcase afterwards :-)
Plus it wouldnt hurt to givie it some 4" long throw speakers, added amp, and a big freaking battery.
Top the case off with solar to recharge it.

no, you wouldn't

8:28 PM
parabolic wi-fi antenna

wow, Mortal Kombat ( not hte new one ) is only $4.99 why would i buy the new one?
if I can get the last one for $5 :$

Well if the last one ran in 640x400 res ? that could be one reason :-)
For $5 games a person can play from now until the zombie apocalypse. wherin online maintainance might take a big drop
@tereško you should see some of my mods, my gps unit has a built in solar charger and 5 amp battery, plus supercharged leds for outdoor viewing. I modded a MID to be a fully wearable device , 1 lb with 3oz eyepiece before google glass was even existing.
I had a proof of concept tablet (sort of) that proved that the sun could be used as backlighting for a LCD pannel.
All because mobile devices are still not made to be mobile :-(

8:44 PM
Its a 2013 game, its not 640x400

@Psycogeek Would you pay for that?

you mean pay for actual mobile devices that worked outside? Well i spent hours looking for them, before giving up, and doing it myself. I would not pay $3000 for an eye viewer when i know a full res lcd micro pannel is only like $125 as a retail part.
Another kickstarter thing would demonstrate if a large ammount of people were willing to support some things. Like a occulus rift that was not a cell phone :-ppppp with bad lensing , and instead 2 full res pictures. That a latop with a drop down back mirror pannel adding about 20$ to the cost of a laptop would be something that way more people would want to buy.
Some of the attempts at this stuff, are "starting over again" back to 1970's style, and hopefully will move foreward. When if the last 40 years of fiddling around , had used the hottests latest stuff that is available, it would rock. (and indeed probably cost to much).

9:02 PM
@Psycogeek Okay then. Would you pay for this?
http://froknowsphoto.com/dslr-video-guide/

Kickstarter mini computer , uhh yea we got like 50 models of them now, where were you during the HDMI stick revolution. New 3D Computerised Glue Gun (printer) :-) hey welcome to the 21st century where UV cured resins have been used for 15 years.
@Boris_yo sure $20 , to learn what i will eventually learn once i get my hand on one, Plus about 10 days of forum research.
for $50 not likely when the web exists, and 90% of the info presented is usually freely available on the forums, plus reading the manuel, plus #1 applying the tools , just by going out and shooting stuff, like the ducks and the pidgeons, and the dogs, and the babes.

9:20 PM
@Psycogeek You have got a lot of free time...
You know what makes online video different than television?

The bits?
<snickers>

@Boris_yo Low budgets?
@Boris_yo When i needed help doing video stuff, I ran quick tours to the big city to train the peoples, while they did not learn everything, in one day trek having "subjects" to aim at and on-hands working the stuff , with a good tripod and at least ok gear (much battery and media to record with) People learned more doing (and a bit of stress) then they would have learned sitting in front of a computer for 6 hours :-)

9:37 PM
@Psycogeek The difference between theory and practice

9:56 PM
Some of the most harder things for me, was being thrust into situations were there were huge impassable problems. These situations required both inovative thought (to save money) and more gear stuff (never ends). Where you could not change the environment, that is against you. Sun the wrong way, light through windows, wind and noise in mics.
So the gear type you think you will need, can take a complete reversal, to the gear you must have to survive a terrible situation.
Isnt that the same with about anything? It is not running the computer, but when all hell breaks out on the computer , you did not expect. It is not the program you were making, but suddenly something going wrong, or it not working for users, and it all going badly. It is not the presentation you had all prepared in front of the audience, but that your OS (valued in the billions) crashing in the middle of your glory speech :-)

10:28 PM
Since when were Apple computers not IBM compatible?
@Ramhound I don't think you can boot DiskWarrior DVD on PC or you can go to Apple Store and boot their diagnostic system over the network in order run some hardware/memory tests. And other way round, you can't install OS X on PC, as it will fail in most cases, because of hardware incompatibilities (Macs are not fully-IBM-compatible PCs). — kenorb 15 mins ago
Its like he didn't even read what I actually said.

10:53 PM
since they had floppies right under the 7 inch screen , and were called Smack'N'Talks and had motorolla processors?

....Does anyone not know history? Intel made IBM processors originally they were IBM's AMD...
or do i have my history scewed up.
anywyas..
I maintain a Apple could in theory boot memtestx86 :$
dnt have one so cant try it

I believe that to be correct, at some time long ago all apple stuff ran on what they called "Power PC"
"This three-way collaboration became known as AIM alliance, for Apple, IBM, Motorola.
In 1991, the PowerPC was just one facet of a larger alliance among these three companies. At the time, most of the personal computer industry was shipping systems based on the Intel 80386 and 80486 chips, which had a CISC architecture, and development of the Pentium processor was well underway. The PowerPC chip was one of several joint ventures involving the three,. . .
Sort of funny at the time to hear that apple was running on PC :-) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerPC but I came in with the amiga instead and the motorolla processors.

11:15 PM
Aye IBM switched to PowerPC when Intel out designed them basically
That is how I see it at least
internet is hard to research on pre-1990 pc stuff
90% of IBM -> Intel searches I brought recent stuff :$

2006 running core-2 duos "Apple also introduced Boot Camp in 2006 to help users install Windows XP or Windows Vista on their Intel Macs alongside Mac OS X"
Around that time (or a bit before), I assumed from the talking, that both run the same basic hardwares, with different OSes. (except we were pushing an extra gig out from beating them with overclocking, they did not seem interested in)

If my understanding is correct, you don't need bootcamp to run Windows, just if you want to use os x and windows.

11:53 PM
HELP
the clock wont stay correct
its meant to automatically be set
I dont get this on XP why is windows 7 so UTTERLY shit!!!!
