12:00 AM
"If you don't have the brains, you lose your gains - that's what Simon always used to say." Rio chuckles. "Usually before he whacked me upside the head for being a dunce."

Saffra looks out onto the sea longingly. "Sometimes I wonder how different life would be without Lynn." She adds quickly, "Not that I don't love him or anything, but I do wonder."

"Perhaps you can compromise." Rio closes the picnic basket to avoid attracting wasps. "You want a life of adventure, and he wants a secure life without his family breathing down his neck. Surely there is a middle ground."

"Perhaps. Maybe he can be a diplomat?" Her faces twitches into a smile. "He'd make a good diplomat, I think."

"He'd hypnotize all them others into doin' what he wanted"

Saffra laughs. "He has enough charm in him, I think, without resorting to that."

12:06 AM
Rio rolls his eyes. "Is charm what they call it nowadays?"

She looks confused. "I'm not sure what you mean."

"Nothing, forgive me." Rio sighs fondly. "I am meant to be befriending him, not poking fun."

"He's handsome, charming, good at communication-" she looks like she's about to say more before closing her mouth and blushing.
"Pfft, you need to make fun of him before he gets to be your friend Valerio." She lightly punches him in the arms.

"He's good." Tifer agrees

Rio raises an amused eyebrow, rubbing his arm. "Si, si. I would not dare insult the Prince while his knight is here to defend him."

12:12 AM
She snorts and shoots Valerio a joking glare.

"We should get home soon, I think - there is business we must attend to later." Rio looks wryly at Tifer. "Shall we head back and check on our wounded warrior?"

She laughs. "Yes, let's."

Tifer lets Lumra out to clean up the crumbs

Rio gets to his feet and brushes grass off his knees. "How is Lumra doing today, mijo?"

"She's good. Likes our picnic food" Tifer nuzzles Lumra and then slips her back into pocket.

12:19 AM
"Let's see how's Lynn's doing."

"Si." Rio gestures to Saffra. "Lead the way, chica. Thank you for spending time with us - it was lovely."

Saffra sees the two teenagers out of the corner of her eyes in a slightly off-shoot area and gags.
"Oh, the pleasure is mine. Thank you."
Saffra starts the trek back to Lynn's house.

(presumably)

Saffra, Tifer, and Valerio head up the stairs to Lynn's study.
He's sleeping on the couch with an ice pack on his ankle.
He stirs slightly awake. "Hrrmph? Wha-?"
He rubs his eyes open and cranes his neck slightly. "Oh, hey you guys."

"Buenas noches, Lynn-Lynn," Rio says cheerfully. "How is your ankle?"

12:23 AM
"Better, I suppose. Might take another day or two." He locks gazes with Saffra and smiles.

"Si, good. We had a lovely picnic." Rio smiles at Saffra. "Is there anything we can do for you before we go?"

"Did your mother notice the ring yet?"

He looks abashed. "I- would rather not deal with it, so I hid it from her." The ring is on his finger now, but he looks slightly guilty.
Saffra looks a little hurt. "Lynn-Lynn, the point is for other people to see it."
"I know, I'm sorry, Saffy." He doesn't look at her in the eyes.

Rio senses the tension and waits awkwardly, unsure what to do.

Saffra sits down next to Lynn. She's tearing up just a little bit.
"Saffy, I'm sorry. Really."

12:30 AM
Tifer opens his mouth and closes it, instead turning his attention to petting Lumra

Rio touches Tifer's shoulder and whispers, "We should go, chica... this is private."

Tifer whispers an agreement and slips out of the room

Rio tiptoes out behind him.

bobble whispers that she wishes to bike now

borg must dinner <3
poor saffy

12:32 AM
Ik
It felt like the most Lynn thing to do though
Lynn's managed to disappoint everyone today

i felt like rio would be pretty bummed that his gift got shown up :p

12:59 AM
nomfloof!

1 hour later…
2:27 AM
arf

19 hours later…
9:54 PM
\o/

schwoooop

gimme some time
I'm doing pokemon quiz

No worries - we left off talking to Boots Girl

i shall vibe and work on my other campaigns
recently remembered that i had bought Explorer's Guide to Wildemount forever ago and never read it, so i've been engrossed in that

10:00 PM
Lmao
@bobble @Graylocke?

it's SO GOOD, i love the creativity
Matt Mercer makes such good worlds
there are like 20 pages of just "this is every race's creation myth and how the world came to be"

there are also like ten queer NPCs that are just casually sprinkled in and it makes me happy
"genderfluid elf oh mY GOODNESS THERE'S A GENDERFLUID NPC" - me five minutes ago
and there's a whole village of PIRATES
and there's an entire well-established and actually realistic war between the two major civilizations that your players can be involved in
AGHHHHH it's so GOOD
JEALOUS DM SOUNDS

@Sciborg The Silmarillion: D&D Edition

THERE'S A PIRATE GROUP NAMED "THE SCREAMING KNUCKLE"
i didn't even know i was going to fangirl over this book so much but here we are
cough anyway, serious DM time

10:08 PM
I accidentally submitted one of my table-fying edits when I was just starting, so when I got the ping I was frantically trying to finish the edit within the grace period

yipes

I have spent an inordinate amount of time recently daydreaming about RPing in the setting of one the RPGs my dad owns

RPG rulebooks are so much fun to read

there are mechanics who work on giant mech suits and I would be a spooky little girl who disappears into the wiring

so... you would be the mech girl from Spiderverse? :P

10:14 PM
is this not allowed

i didn't say that
apparently Graylocke was last seen 21 hours ago... ;-;

they may have farm stuff? or sleeps?

yeah - i have time to hang so we can vibe until they pop in
reading this adventure book has strongly compelled me to start making a new campaign setting

how many campaign settings do you have

i have four "big sprawling sandbox" settings, two of which are currently in use for the Monday/Wednesday campaigns, and a bunch of smaller "mini" settings like the one for this campaign
mini settings are a lot of fun to make, but aren't as complex as the Big Settings

10:23 PM
this mini setting appears to have lots of dragon stuff

...dragons are cool
sue me

this is true
dragons > airships

eehhhhh, airships are pretty dope too

dragons > magical clocks?

magical clocks?

10:26 PM
clocks that are magical
was the first other thing I though of

hm, that could be a fun campaign setting - a setting where time runs differently
like if everything happens in cycles, or time has gaps, or etc

there are some places where if you walk into them, time decides that rules are funny

yeah
that could be fun
or maybe a setting kinda like Lost Omens in Pathfinder, where there are hundreds of prophecies that run the course of civilizations - but the guy who made the prophecies died before he could explain them
we played that for our first 2e campaign and it was really funny

how many copies survive?

everyone knows the prophecies - it's just that everyone interprets them differently now because the guy who made them died
they're like the Ten Commandments

10:30 PM
or a setting with spaceships
reasoning: IN SPAAAAAAAAACE

......oh my god, what if i legit made a D&D In Space setting :p
would my friends kill me

over space elves?
nah

the gods are just highly advanced aliens, and the different D&D races are aliens from different planets
the magic items are alien objects
"magic" is just highly advanced technology

there an Evil Empire?

there's always an Evil Empire

10:33 PM
You might have to do some drastic reflavoring of spells/magic items

and all the monsters are alien species native to different worlds
yeah, at that point i'm basically making Starfinder
the other idea i had was just to make your typical Urban Fantasy setting where the civilized fantasy races have achieved human-level modern advancement, because those are always fun to make. but the problem is that worldbuilding how that came to be is a nightmare
see: Bright

googles Bright

Bright is a movie that had VERY BAD urban fantasy worldbuilding
i would try to make my version plausible, at least

the gods showed up and gave everyone the necessary tech
there, solved

lol
"a time traveler dropped off a bunch of computers, phones and guns and booked it"

10:39 PM
different gods for different areas, so you have Apple vs Android except the fight is religious as well

OH MY GOD that would be hilarious
"ALL HAIL STEVIUS JOBBIUS, GOD OF APPLE, AND WE SHALL BURN THE ANDROID HEATHENS"
imagine it's like a post-apocalypse fantasy society and they dig up Apple products but mistake all the references to Steve Jobs as references to some kind of god, because of how Silicon Valley seems to worship him

obviously he was the god of jobs

and cults form around these weird god artifacts
that would be hilarious

how do they power the stuff?

maybe they figure out electricity so they can activate the devices, but they don't fully understand how to keep them on/charge the batteries. so whenever they manage to make a device briefly activate it's considered a sign from the gods
"ALL HAIL, THE GOD-TABLET IS GLOWING"

10:42 PM
WE MUST DISCOVER THE "PASSWORD"

WE MUST LEARN OF THE MEANING OF THIS STRANGE RECTANGULAR SYMBOL WITH A RED BAR

WHY IS THERE PARTIALLY EATEN FOOD AS A SYMBOL

i'm crying, i want to make this a oneshot so badly
IMAGINE
the players go to investigate a secretive "Cult of Jobs"
they discover a temple adorned with apple trees, as they cultivate the fruit of their deity

Apples with one bite taken out are set out as offerings

then they sneak into a worship ceremony where an ancient iPhone is briefly activated, and the worshippers prostrate themselves and rend their garments in amazement
it is declared a miracle
then there is a plot twist planned by me and another player where one of the PCs was secretly a time traveler from the past, and he walks calmly up, takes out a portable charger and plugs in the phone
and the worshippers lose their shit

10:46 PM
what is they're all time travellers

oh my god, time travelers that go forward in the future
THAT'S THE ONESHOT
i am literally going to do this
they discover the D&D world that has adopted all their artifacts into weird rituals

The government figured out a time-travel machine, some politician pushed them to try it too early and sent the PCs forward in time; now the machine is broken and have to try to get parts to fix it

this is a hilarious idea and i love it

also to make sure PCs can't abuse the time-travelling to break the plot

the goal is to find all the parts of the machine using their debris tracker, and it leads them to all these crazy places
at the end, they fix the machine and go home

10:49 PM
they go home and land in a press conference mourning them

YES
it'll be the never-given Apollo speech mourning the astronauts
"there is one place on earth that is forever touched by -" time machine crashes into the middle of the press conference

final mini-conflict is them trying to explain themselves

"there was this future cult that worshipped broken iPhones, and there were these pointy-eared people who evolved from humans -"
dragged away by security

the final words are a news commentator noting how the failed mission seems to have driven all the time-travellers mad

beautiful
i adore this almost as much as the zoo ninjas

10:52 PM
>< did i ever actually mention zoo ninjas here

....no - you need to explain the zoo ninjas sometime :P

I did figure out Evil Plan and tentatively have some NPCs drawn up
how do you even organize notes?
it's all in my head right now

i make a lot of nested folders and Word docs, mostly
i organize by Location, then i have a folder of NPCs that are there and relevant smaller locations
for big campaign settings i have like ten layers of folders for each location
and i have my own formatting and tagging because the way the official campaign books do it is dumb

I have (tentatively) three sections: getting the mission at headquarters (allows for getting into character & exposition), sneaking around zoo to get information about Evil Plan, and then hopefully y'all figure out the Evil Plan and return later to sneak around and thwart it

sounds like a good framework :D
usually i recommend making separate little pages for each NPC so you can grab their info when players bump into them, or are looking for people
players are heading to general store? -> go into general store folder -> here are relevant NPCs. players talk to this NPC? open their info to remember how to RP them
you can also have pages for each PC to store information as the player tells you info

11:02 PM
;-; is nomcat not coming

apparently not :(
@Graylocke ?

I've been having fun making up silly NPCs that you can bump into while walking around the zoo

oooh, details? :D

there's the corn-dog stand seller who is a retired fighter and insists on elaborate demonstrations of how to stab people with corn dog sticks before he'll give you one

i LOVE it
can Silo fight him with a cotton candy stick

11:06 PM
he'd be very into that

is there a gift shop that sells plushies

there's the extremely bored gift-shop clerk who wanted a summer job but can't be bothered to actually work, so they've set up an illusion to man the cash register and annoy people into leaving without buying anything

hahaha
why is that something i would do
"minor illusion, i order you to wait tables while i sit in the back napping"

there's the gay dwarf couple who are bringing their two teens to the zoo, except both are manifesting powers: one a Druid who keeps shifting into animals and running away, one a Bard who keeps casting Vicious Mockery on everyone
this is what bobble does when bored in school

borg wants to play this so badly

11:15 PM
there's a possibility that everyone gets sidetracked into fun NPC encounters and forgets about the Plot; trying to figure out what to do about that
on the other hand, you're going to bump into the gay dwarf couple no matter what you do, because I say so

honestly it's fun to just say screw the plot and embrace the funny NPC encounters sometimes
no one likes to be railroaded
enjoy the random :D

do you approve of my silly NPCs this means

yes
sometimes you must embrace the fact that you've made hilarious NPCs and the plot can wait :p

the director will tell the group to try to be inconspicuous and non-memorable, to keep the ninjas from being accused of dirty business
somehow i doubt that warning will work

this will fail immediately once Silo finds corn dog man

11:22 PM
"Especially you, Silo. Remember the puppy incident? No repeats of the puppy incident"

"But Sarge, there were *lil baby puppies* that needed saving!"
"Yes, inside a CLASSIFIED MILITARY BASE that you were supposed to be doing RECON for and not GO INTO."

we already, effectively, have two campaigns going on >.>
perhaps I should just keep adding to my list of NPCs

yes :p but we shall play it someday
or you can save it for college TTRPG club!
since bobble is going to college now :D

the university sent me more information, and today is when I learned that they have an entire website devoted just to stuff relevant to bikers

oooh

11:31 PM
it includes several warnings that they're not liable if your bike gets stolen

yeah - if you bring a bike on campus, definitely lock it

11:45 PM
what if i hire silo to defend the bike

silo will use his corn dog stick to defend your property

uh oh I think I need a lock after all

Yeesh
My dad just had like a two hour talk

gray never came, so we brainstormed

Why is it that everyone except my dad believes in my ability to survive

11:57 PM
would it make you feel better if I offered a zoo ninja?

virtual hugs?

virtual hugs

we love our tree
