@MiG That's the one I'm leaning towards. However, it doesn't support HEIC out of the box, which I would like to support if possible. You must install two apps from the Microsoft Store in order to support HEIC, and the computers I'm working on can't open the Microsoft Store for some reason.
Also, it insists on using a black background for transparent BMP and TIFs, which is not good for printing.

@Michael that's probably configurable, you can also set the background colour for transparent stuff in view
And yeah, I had to install something for HEIC... But I don't have MS store access either (domain account) so there must be a workaround
I'm not sure, but it may be this one: copytrans.net/copytransheic - "free for personal use"
Also, useful for the maccies amongst us: backlightblog.com/iphone-heic-to-jpg
you can set it to keep shooting HEIC but share as JPG

@MiG There are a few settings you can tweak which fix it for GIFs and PNGs, but those settings have no effect on BMPs and TIFs. :(
At least those formats are not widely used.
@MiG Can't use, not for personal use, thx though. :)

@Michael I wasn't aware BMP had a transparency feature btw?
@Michael well, I installed it on a university (domain) laptop so maybe it's an honour system :x

@MiG Neither was I!

A: can a bmp image format handle transparency

Joshua GranickYes, the bitmap format does support transparency. It depends on the compression method, the default RGB method supports 24-bit color, but BITFIELDS compression supports 32-bit color (24-bit + alpha channel). You can read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMP_file_format I am using it succes...

mind blown!
I shall immediately revert to using BMP over all those fancy new file formats (like JPG)
Clearly nothing else is needed <3

5:43 PM
@MiG Totally. No need for compression anymore now that we have broadband.
