@Michael Ah yeah, I think i remember draco saying something about that
I mean they can claim "oh we don't want third party toner/ink/pixie dust ruining the printer"; but as the thai food aficionado said, that sauce is weak
@bwDraco So if an HP+ printer temporarily loses its connection to the internet for whatever reason (e.g. ISP outage), it won't be able to process print jobs sent from computers on the local area network?
I think most reasonable businesses would trust themselves to NOT even have that option. For example, I only use the SMB versions of printers at home, and either SMB or Enterprise printers at work - we can't deal with shinanigans like that
@Michael just testing the waters / adjusting expectations / slowly boiling the frog, you say
I remember having this same discussion aeons ago when DLC started to come out
which boiled down to, "you're paying for a thing that is already there"
paid expansions were a thing! that's extra work devs do after the game's released... as opposed to "that content's there, in the game, on the CD / on your hard drive, but because you haven't paid for it, we'll magically lock off access to it"
"here's your thing- printer, car, whatever; if you don't pay us, that thing stops working"
