Well that's good,, I've not totally lost my skills, as both @JourneymanGeek and @Ramhound also think it's a unrelated issue.
It almost feels like a cooling issue, where opening the case has made the connection between cpu and heatsink even worse...
but that's almost entirely conjecture.

9:12 AM
and a cooling issue is an easy diagnosos

And sane one, I think?

@Aibobot It's increasingly beginning to look that way o__o
<Sighs deeply>
@Ramhound Yeah. But while I was definitely confused about MT/s and MHz, I did *explicitly" list that as a (sub)question in my post. So technically speaking, he did "answer" one of the two questions I raised in the post ;-P
Ah well, my post is essentially a "support" question (as established previously in chat), and I understand SU isn't really about that sort of thing... still thankful for chat though :-3
And since I'm normally inclined to upvote answers that contain useful, relevant content (esp. so when it's from a new user) I upvoted it
Though I see sense in your reasoning too...
@djsmiley2kStaysInside <Whimpers>
@djsmiley2kStaysInside The heatsink had a pretty simple ("minimalist") design: single short tube leading to a tiny fan. Not entirely sure how much of the heating problem is my fault X-D
(And yeah, it does heat up significantly... I think it crossed 70 deg.C once, if Speccy is anything to go by)
I should definitely look into getting a newer laptop after I̶ ̶g̶o̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶j̶o̶b̶ my course ends >_<
@JourneymanGeek <Looks the other way>

@paracetamol oh uh... @JourneymanGeek and I are the same person lol
I run this account on my office PC cause I don't want to leave my mod credencials on a PC I don't control, and I've at least once had a sudden unplanned departure from a role (tm)

@paracetamol - No; Incomplete answers are not helpful to the community. Reputation is valuable, incomplete answers, really don't need upvotes. You are feel to free differently about that, but that won't change, my opinion on that particular answer.
