How often have you looked at the application you just built and thought to yourself ā€œI really wish I knew how to add animationsā€?

I had this thought for a long time. I would build something really great, yet the interactions were minimal at best (the most I could do is a transition: background .1s linear), yet I always wanted more.

Animations not only take your application from good to exceptional, theyā€™re often expected by users. But animations donā€™t just make your application look and feel nicer, they can be a useful tool for improving perceived performance, giving users updates on the status of a task, and guiding a user through your application. …

Oh hey, it's time for some Windows Updates! <game show music>

5:26 PM

blogbot spammed some crap

6:14 PM
OH POOOOOOOOOOOOP
2
I dd'd my live root partition
why am I like this

derp
power off right now

halp

don't shutdown

cannot
it's remote

boot live cd do recovery

6:16 PM
cannot
no ODD

this is a Xen dealie

need to recreate partition table

I stopped it before the whole thing finished

then could try live recovery..

6:17 PM
but /etc/ is hosed
or well

you have backups, right?:/

ls /etc segfaults
not for this, no
it's a backup 'server'

/me looks at @Bob

and I tend not to back up the OS

you're the expert

6:18 PM
because "that can be easily reinstalled"

you likely want to copy on a busybox executable

quoting some idiot fool

it can if you've got a backup of the configs ¬_¬

(ie me)
well
ls segfaults
on anything at all
so think /bin/ is gone

been there,done that
one sec, getting logged into mahmahine

6:21 PM
I feel like I'm in the position of the story from the days of yore

ohcrap,bb is in /bin/ too
yup

when they manually bit-bashed themselves up a copy of dd

you've gotta write a compiler in asm.
which ls
can you scp to the machine?

which segfaults too
err
seems not
can't ssh
only have current ssh session it seems

6:24 PM
I mean, I can reinstall, but that's the next time I'm physically there and it's in a dirty loft and I'd really rather not if I can recover
no wget

i'm seeing if i canfindsome help
do you have irc somewhere?

Yea
always ;-P

k, i'll let you know where to go, If i find anyone upfor the challenge

hehe
cheers!
it's not mission critical, or even high priority
if I need to redo it, so be it

right now i'm imagining copying something via ssh, but what D:

6:26 PM
and how
I guess echo "program" >> file
but doesn't echo/shell barf on binary?
and if I have to reinstall, that's my penance for not properly checking LVs when dd-ing
oh poop
this is my homeserver
well, one of the guests is
oh well, it still works for now
and still should until I touch the Dom0

you likely didn't kill them...
i'm guessing you have no fdisk either

correct

i think you may actually be utterly screwed :/
logout of ssh, never log in ever again? xD

hehe

no snapshots?

6:34 PM
hmm
don't think so
ssh sesh has locked up

will see if it cometh back
if not, I'll be making a bootable USB
well, I'll be doing that anyway
guess it's my turn to pay the "stupid tax" :D
speaking of which, hey, lottery tonight!!
Oh welp
there goes my connection to the homeserver
guess something caused the DomU guests to bite the dust
I'm offline on Matrix until I get the server back up and running
ta!

:p

6:57 PM
anyone know how to do PIP on a dell screen?

7:25 PM
It's gonna depend on the screen @Burgi. Google the model number and check the manual

@bertieb you not got anaccount elsewhere? D:
@CanadianLuke or mash buttons randomly, like @bertieb typing in console commands...

@CanadianLuke looks like i can't PIP DVI and VGA

@djsmiley2kindarkness Nah, clutters up userlist

7:42 PM
Sucky

@bertieb that's worth it to be able to have you join in tbh
@Burgi looks like most tv's only do it with HDMI + 'analog' input, not sure about monitors tho
analog being a aerial, or cable etc.
something dealt with differently...

it works with DVI or VGA and Component, Composite or S-Video

I guess you'll need to write a program to accept the input and display it as a window :P

8:12 PM
@djsmiley2kindarkness I'll fix it tomorrow

ah fair enough, good luck

ty!

i thought matrix had user federation now

8:44 PM
It'll have it Real Soon Now

@Burgi What's user federation? Something to do with Star Trek? :)

United Federation of People

@Burgi I'm still non the wiser ...

it allows you to create one user and then log in with that user to any of the home servers you are connected to

@Burgi Ah, OK

8:59 PM
Guess it doesn't work anymore. Oh well.

9:17 PM
all they need to do is share user password hashes...
possibly on demand.
