@JourneymanGeek I failed. Sorry.
11 hours ago, by Journeyman Geek
Go do some docker

I heard recently that Rabbi Yitzhok Charner, shlita, principal of the Torah School in Silver Spring, Maryland, was confronted by parents who didn't want to vaccinate their child. He asked them which of the legal exemptions would they be using. They said the "religious exemption." "What religion would that be? Judaism does not forbid vaccinations." — Bruce James Feb 3 '15 at 22:09

4:45 AM
(context for the "I failed" statement: something happened and it wasn't entirely my fault, though I could and should still have squeezed some Docker into the schedule)

5:20 AM
Q: get world string from this string hello/world?yolo=. sed or awk.

5:50 AM
@Biswapriyo I think sed and awk have different applications.

@MichaelFrank use any Linux command.

Roses are red, violets are blue
Don't worry password, I'm insecure too.

@rahuldottech sugar is sweet, and so are you.

6:42 AM
@bwDraco you are an adult. You're accountable to yourself, not to us.

7:04 AM
@JourneymanGeek Do you happen to be in context with OliverSlazburg?

Bob
7:46 AM
@Biswapriyo Neither. Use a proper URI parser. Python has one.
Otherwise you run into issues with e.g. URI encoding.
If you don't mind pulling third-party binaries, there's also a Rust urlp or Go url-parser designed to work with shell scripts.

@JourneymanGeek Look! They gave someone else your job! meta.stackexchange.com/questions/326611/…

@Bob hmm.. I was thinking about using python. I'll use it someday. But grep and sed did the work for now. Thank you for help 😊

@rahuldottech not really
@rahuldottech it's not my job... Yet. It just happens that their requirements don't involve what I can bring to the table yet. That guy has worked as a professional CM at a gaming company...
It's a job I'd love sure. Apparently as with many things it's not my time

11:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek ah, okay then.
@JourneymanGeek okay so you know the svg-windows-logo-within-<kbd> that's used across SU in some answers?
The svg is hosted on Oliver's server. Except he has an HTTPS config error so all those answers are now broken

Hmm, a script could probably work its way through and fix those
I know Glorfindel's running one to fix image errors
Submits a small number of edits per day so as not to flood the queue
Got any numbers for how many posts it affects?

@bertieb not many. Maybe ~100.
Not sure, actually
I've only seen it in the wild a few times.

A SEDE query could probably find them
I'd whip one up but I'm in the middle of whipping up some lunch
Sadly absent Miracle Whip
But hey ho

@rahuldottech ah. That's a bit of a pain. I'll try to see what I can do on an off day

how come win 10 is initializing a update forever? ive already stopped the service, deleted the update history/downloads and forced it to restart in order to update an update that has been initialized for days, but this keeps happening again.

1:46 PM
it's probably something to do with winSXS

roar

2:26 PM
whats the best way to fix it, taskscehduler or dism.exe?

2:40 PM
tried to run the startcomponentcleanup task from cmd, response is success with attempt to run the cleanup but not really knowing if it did. updates are still initializing

I WANNA EAT YUMMY FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

do it then:P

No can do atm

3:15 PM
@rahuldottech The Little ATM That Couldn't
@rahuldottech Come to Brazil, I have some leftover sushi from yesterday. Well, it's at my grandma's; if the caretaker hasn't eaten it yet, that is. You can go grab it for me and I'd pay you a food tax of half the package (flight tickets not included).

4:03 PM
Y'know
In all my years on SU
I don't believe I've come across this moderator ever before: meta.superuser.com/users/22317/daniel-beck

@rahuldottech hmm. Interesting choice of hardware. I kinda get the choice of shorewall... Shaping was on my list
And that's a nice thing with diy routers
Ton of freedom over what you want to build

5:40 PM
@JourneymanGeek I'm working on a project, it's in very early stages. But if I manage to get it to work and further develop it, I'm going to solicit your services for help making a custom router

@rahuldottech He was around in chat about 6-7 years ago, from what I remember

@CanadianLuke Oliver?

Him too

Yeah, he used to be here when I was new to the room

You linked to Daniel Beck

5:41 PM
Wait, who else? Router dude?
Ahh

@rahuldottech almost all my build is documented on my blog
Other than maybe my dnsmasq settings

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I've seen
Also, you gotta remove "just another wordpress site" from your website title dude

Lol. Ok

1 hour later…

so my experience with modern browsers' smoothness on Windows with a game running on one monitor and a browser on the other with a 2080 Ti:
Firefox: Youtube stutters badly when gaming
Chrome: no stuttering but scrolling isn't smooth (to be fair it's not smooth on Firefox either)
Edge using the original Edge rendering engine: no stuttering and buttery scrolling
Edge dev using Chromium: no stuttering and almost as good buttery scrolling as the original Edge

lol

@allquixotic Moah hardware! ;)

7:13 PM
@allquixotic Game mode activated?
and by game mode I mean Game Modeâ„¢
It does things to your resources
Horrible, unspeakable, dark-alley-in-dodgy-part-of-town things

doesn't it litterally just give the game highest priority?

Like I said
Horrible things :P

lol

2 hours later…
8:50 PM
Chat markdown is broken:

invalid: __test__test
valid  : **test**test
invalid: ---test---test
valid  : `test`test

9:02 PM
argh my leg hurts

9:16 PM
roar
Covered doubleheaders for both softball and baseball today. Obviously couldn't do both games at the same time (they ran concurrently), but got lots of great shots as usual.

10:07 PM
@rahuldottech it's a lot less broken on a single line than multiline but still dumb

@allquixotic markdown just straight up doesn't work on multiline
Not even the link syntax
