That was fun
I basically had no ipv4 functioning last night due to a routing issue at my ISP

2 hours later…
1:42 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy You started when you were born?

@FMLCat he never stopped.

A: Both VMware and VirtualBox have guest tools. Are there problems with installing both?

user887053Keep in mind, that much of the vm client tools packages are drivers for virtual devices that are presented by whichever VM environment. Do not expect them to be compatible. So I'd give your chances of success about the same as pulling a hard disk out of one physical box, and putting it in a diffe...

Yeah....

3:37 AM
@Bob hey - games this weekend? :P

3:49 AM
That's a pretty polite comment snipe

1 hour later…
Bob
4:50 AM
@allquixotic in about 8-9h?

...and Death Wish Coffee order placed, due to arrive Monday, so it should be on the front porch when we get home.
(Mother knows about this, but Father isn't going to be amused, so don't tell him :p)

5:24 AM
Why am I never invited to games :-(
Oh cause I don't play the same games you play duh

and you play them outside......

5:39 AM
@Burgi Yes. Very common in southern states of India.
Telugu (English: ; తెలుగు [t̪el̪uɡu]) is a South-central Dravidian language native to India. It stands alongside Hindi, English and Bengali as one of the few languages with official primary language status in more than one Indian state; Telugu is the primary language in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and significant linguistic minorities in other neighbouring states. It is one of six languages designated a classical language of India by the country's government. Telugu language ranks third in the population with number of native speakers in India (74 million, 2001 census), sixteenth in...
> It stands alongside Hindi, English and Bengali as one of the few languages with official primary language status in more than one Indian state
This is what the script looks like: తెలుగు

@rahuldottech that said, tamil is the official language in multiple countries XD

5:55 AM
Hmmm. I get 10MB/s with LAN cable and 5MB/s with Wi-Fi connection. But there is no LAN connection sockets in the room and it will require wiring.
How is everybody here connected to the internet at home. LAN cable or Wi-Fi?
Reluctant to do the wiring as it will require LAN cable, wall drilling and wiring...

@JourneymanGeek If I have two completely unrelated methods of getting something to work, should I include them in the same answer, or create a separate one?

@Boris_yo When I had a home, LAN cable and/or wireless bridge.
In my last 5-person flat, all the bedrooms had wired LAN cables. Didn't bother with any drilling, just ran them through/under/around doors.
My last 2 person flat had wired ethernet to my server closet and wireless bridge to one bedroom and direct wifi connection to the other
You can get a gigabit over a wireless bridge and 99.998% reliability with decent equipment.
I think my wireless bridge recorded about 15 seconds of downtime a month on average...

Bob
@FMLCat cause timezones and you don't usually bring it up

@Bob I've brought it up every time I've seen you guys mention it! :-O

Bob
o.O
we're probably finishing off last time's soase game, but what do you play?

6:07 AM
Which is about four times in the two years or so I've been in here
@Bob Mostly single player stuff out of necessity!
RTS is one of my favourite genres though
Urgh buggy shit Intel bluetooth
Have to reboot my bluetooth speakers every hour or two...
Also it's past 6am and I have no desire to sleep
I guess that's cause I'm a cat

@FMLCat Wireless bridge only extends signal, right? It does not increase bandwidth from wireless router?

@Boris_yo It gives you a wired ethernet port and/or switch in your destination that acts as if it were directly connected to the source switch/router

@FMLCat I only need LAN in my bedroom for my laptop...

Bandwidth depends on your equipment. Router to router bridge (well, AP to AP) generally achieves better bandwidth than router to laptop/desktop/phone because routers have better radios
If it's a wired laptop, you want a wireless bridge. If it's a wireless laptop and you're happy with 10MB/sec you're probably fine with an off-the-shelf wireless repeater (which just extends signal)

@FMLCat I have wireless laptop and get about 5-6MB/s with Wi-Fi. Will I get more with repeater?

6:15 AM
@Boris_yo Possibly.
If there's parts of your room where you get more speeds but it's awkward to hold your laptop, you could put the repeater there.
If your laptop's wireless crap, same story.

@FMLCat I have TP Link small cube-shaped AP which can act as repeater...
Wonder if it has good radio...

@Boris_yo That's not saying much
What's your main router?

@FMLCat Edimax is the brand. You want the model?

@Boris_yo Yes

BR-6428NS V2

6:17 AM
Oh
It's pretty crap
Basic 2.4Ghz only B/G/N. You probably won't be able to improve it much without a lot of fiddling/dirty tricks/equipment
@Boris_yo What wireless card do you have in your laptop?

Shameless plug, because I'm super proud of these answers:

A: Get Current HTML Of Page Built With AJAX Requests

rahuldottechOne way to get the source code with all dynamically loaded elements is through Chrome Developer Tools (F12). Choose the <HTML> tag at the very beginning of the page, and copy the element (CTRL + C). This should also copy all enclosed data, dynamically loaded or otherwise to your clipboard, and yo...

@rahuldottech same answer everywhere but SR.SE

@JourneymanGeek @JourneymanGeek So I should merge these into one? ^

Damn you're catching up with me

ehh, I'd say let it be unless people complain, but in future...

6:30 AM
Whatps SR.SE

software recommendations.
Probably true of hardware recs too

@JourneymanGeek cool, thanks

Urgh I'm too happy to go to sleep

@FMLCat Nothing wrong with that

6:31 AM
@rahuldottech It's 6:30 am and It's because I've been doing drugs
There's a lot wrong with that

@FMLCat Yes, but not with wanting to sleep

@FMLCat DW1530 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card

@FMLCat Please be safe. The official, channel approved way of dying is death by falling monitor. Anything else is not allowed.
Jul 5 '16 at 14:41, by Journeyman Geek
and that the official, channel approved way of dying is death by falling monitor. Anything else is not allowed.

@Boris_yo You may be better off upgrading your router. Your laptop's capable of double the speed of the router.
@rahuldottech Or suicide after accidentally chmod -R 777 /'ing a cluster

@FMLCat suicide is not allowed

6:33 AM
@FMLCat No. Only falling monitor!

Maybe if its by dropping a monitor on yourself.

@FMLCat Router is N standard which is 300Mbps?

@JourneymanGeek maybe

Technically! What if you only mortally wound yourself by falling monitor?

@Boris_yo It's 2.4Ghz only, which in reality can't do 300Mbps in practice. 99% of situations it will revert to 144Mbps mode, and in reality perform closer to 50.

6:36 AM
just dont die

@FMLCat Well 2.4GHz is a common frequency here... You mean I should get 5GHz?

@Boris_yo Yes

AC too?

5Ghz will generally perform 2-4x faster than 2.4Ghz even if a device is only capable of "300Mbps" on either.

@Boris_yo not a bad option these days
@FMLCat assuming its in the same room

6:37 AM
@Boris_yo Your laptop doesn't support AC. You'll have to upgrade the wireless card too if you want that, which really isn't that expensive (£20 or so?) but requires opening your laptop
@JourneymanGeek In any room.

or you have shitty wooden walls.

Until it runs out of signal

5GHz is worse through walls though :/

@FMLCat upgrading also may not work if its a thinkpad

@JourneymanGeek I have concrete walls.

6:37 AM
If it connects at all, it'll usually be faster.
@JourneymanGeek You can get Stinkpad coded wireless cards off Ebay easily enough

@JourneymanGeek EXPLAIN

Also, Thinkpads don't come with Dell wireless cards.

@rahuldottech thinkpads have whitelists for supported wireless cards
some HPs may too
so literally only specific models work on stock thinkpads
unless you...
hack the bios

@JourneymanGeek ...why?

@rahuldottech donno

6:39 AM
Some wireless cards are the same, coded to only work on certain brands, unless you hack the card/driver/bios.
@rahuldottech "Certification"
Funny enough when using wireless cards with firmware "locked" to only work in Toshiba laptops, Windows drivers will respect the lock, while Linux drivers ignore it totally and bypass it by default

@JourneymanGeek Apparently some don't have whitelists anymore: reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/31rnsv/…

> Submitted 2 years ago
It's been a while

@FMLCat Yeah, but only for some models

@FMLCat ah, my last thinkpad was a x220

There's a whole community about getting around the whitelist: bios-mods.com/forum/Forum-WiFi-WWAN-Whitelist-Removal

6:46 AM
He's got a Dell, jesus.

@FMLCat ;p
You're a cat, you should know all about getting distracted ;p

@FMLCat 'twas a compliment but ok

!!CAAAAAAAAT

7:03 AM
I can't sleep, I want cuddles

Bob
@FMLCat ah I'll have to check if you're awake next time
@FMLCat except the APs that use a laptop (m.2 or pcie) card internally...

@Bob Lots of them used to use MiniPCI/MiniPCIe cards, but they tended to not be laptop-specific ones
(Often some did use exactly the same cards as some laptops, but not the generally cut-down/miniaturised laptop ones)
And they'll still be hooked up to bigger better antenna and/or amplifiers with better antenna separation as well

Bob
@FMLCat yea the better antenna

Bob
7:28 AM
...what was I saying?

@Bob oh, remember the internet issues I was having?
Fixed themselves over night so...
going to bed was the right thing ;p

@RogUE inside joke ;)

The reason I hate Quora:

8:18 AM
@RogUE heh, the hyphen site doing it was one reason SE's designed to never hide content on the main sites behind a paywall
Other than... well teams and hosted SE enterprise, and a few chat rooms, and anything we don't know about...
Everything's in the open

Even the chat rooms....

Mostly
But even those arn't behind a paywall ;p

Q: Prevent exposure of messages from private chat rooms

Mad ScientistPrivate chat rooms are solely used for moderation purposes, this is a hard rule by Stack Exchange. In most cases the information in such private rooms should not be made public, they often contain private information about users which moderators are forbidden to reveal by the moderator agreement....

There's moderation related private chat rooms
and supposedly some super seekrit internal ones on chat.meta.se

Ah, there it is.
I have seen a room where you need to be added by someone in the room to see the messages.

We don't typically use those tho
Personally I think there's very little that needs to be handled both privately and in realtime

Who here has watched I Kill Giants?

I'm not getting enough rep from this answer, which is sortaa annoying since I went to the lengths of searching the chat transcript to find @Bob's preferred GIF-making tool which I've been meaning to try for a long time and actually creating animations explaining the whole process :|

Bob
@rahuldottech screentogif.com

@Bob yeah, I found it, it's neat :)

user226528
9:16 AM
I... Hate... Animated GIF.

user226528
Can't they just settle one a more modern format?

user226528
One that supports full color?

@FleetCommand That would be mp4, but SE doesn't allow them to be embedded
mp4 files are SO MUCH SMALLER than the same thing in GIF

user226528
Especially, if they are encoded with H.265 still codec.

@FleetCommand heh, licecap actually works pretty well for animated gifs
and no, SE's probably not going to have video support baked in
the nice thing with gifs is done right they're embeddable as an image on imgur
.... who also do webm these days

user226528
9:27 AM
Sure, sure. But they are reminiscent how the technology is stunted.

10:29 AM
@FleetCommand New World Order is actually Old World Order. A cake with shitty icing on it. They are still on the top of their game. The just want us to think something improved when it's not really. Trump is still a puppet controlled by puppeteers.
I had to retry posting this. Seems like they are watching.

sometimes you post a bloody oneliner and it gets a crapload of reputation.
