9:11 AM
@JourneymanGeek Know how to do file auditing on server 2k8?
I think that's the right term..

Bob
@ekaj what kind?
pretty much turn it on and look at the logs

of a domain user trying to access network shares, I'm poking around a bit, I was checking out something else first

Well thanks =p I hadn't got to that point yet

Bob
MSDN and TechNet are generally pretty good resources

9:27 AM
I got in trouble in highschool for.. computer stuff and I thought it was so cool he could show me his logs of my activities
because I'm a nerd when it comes to stuff like that

Bob
oh yea
were you the one who asked about backup sizes, @ekaj?

Yessir

Bob
let's see
137 GB for the system image
that was from November 2012
I should probably take a new image sometime
a new one would be in the region of 200 GB

Now you do a full image, including documents, downloads, etc?

Bob
36 GB for the dedicated photo backup
@ekaj system image is the system partition, which includes user profiles
the data partition includes games and photos

9:31 AM
Ah okay

Bob
user files (important parts of my profile; mostly appdata and documents) is 345 GB
this is a daily incremental with a full backup every week

My system partition is only about 80GB, I keep music/videos/that kinda stuff on a separate drive

Bob
that's every day for over a year
going back to November 2012

I need to start doing backups, but TBH I rarely do anything important enough to back up

Bob
and a 320 GB image of one laptop and a 489 GB image of another
hm. the second one ended up on an external HDD due to lack of space

9:33 AM
haha =p

That'sa lotta space

Bob
C and D are on the 2x2TB RAID 1 (mirror) volume
everything else is an independent drive
F and G are 2 TB internal HDDs
H is a 1.5 TB external
@ekaj not enough :P
but I'm running out of HDD bays

I had to export most of my TV shows to my external 1TB

Bob
mhm
most of the large media lies on G
music is on C (in my profile) - never bothered separating that
the sum of my music on this machine is only 11 GB anyway

9:37 AM
I have 127GB in music :/

Bob
I don't collect nearly as much lossless as @JourneymanGeek
I think my laptop has 16 GB
haven't synced them in a while

I'm trying to quit torrenting though..

Bob
heh.
@ekaj waitreally?

no, I just wanted to screenshot clippy trying to help me
Thankfully I don't have any drug habits

9:54 AM

:(
Drive of impending doom =p

yes, I am ENTIRELY aware that drive is nearly full
@ekaj: its from my laptop, apparently it was damaged enough to replace under warranty
works perfectly other than failing smart tests

My laptop may have a near death experience towards the end of its warranty
just saying

by which I mean I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER trust any data thats not backed up to it, but its not dead yet.

I need to learn to interpret smart data

9:58 AM
gsmartcontrol is nice for that

but crystal disk info says the health is good.. =p
minus 8TB of read/write on my ssd
but it's still healthy

hm, missing dll file
Simple layout is nice
SO I assume pre-failure is bad =p

10:19 AM
quite
tho in this case thats what it always says
the things highlighted in pink are slightly bad

My SSD has 7 pre failures but no pink

now THIS is bad

I have one of those on my SSD and two on the HDD at 100% each
...but without error =p
II needs the sleeps, good night

11:21 AM
This one is pretty useful for measuring optimal wireless bandwidth at home network: bitbucket.org/pzolee/tcpserver/wiki/Home

12:39 PM
@JourneymanGeek I much prefer the GTK3/Cinnamon clone of the traditional RHEL CleanLooks theme :D

OK, then I'll just make a room for us both here. It's not really private, but hopefully people won't go there. Just a minute.

What is your idea about me up to now?

And I am looking forward to having a really lovely friendship with you. If you'll let me.

This is for @allquixotic
Tongue in chick
OOps
Tongue in chick cheek

Bob
@allquixotic oh god
also, you're up early :P
@allquixotic Here's what I had gist.github.com/Elusive138/756b1b30c82a32bf2874
...
this guy

@Bob cool thanks

Bob
probably one of those idiots who migrates those questions to SU
@allquixotic you probably went past that point already

@Bob Why is it that north americans English speakers many times have their usernames as WordDigitDigitDigit?

1:09 PM
Bob isn't a north american, so why would he know?

Bob
lol
@ThatBrazilianGuy Uhh... because we feel like it? :P
(because we can't be bothered making up words, so we choose a word and add some numbers)
(the numbers may or may not be significant)

@allquixotic Hmm... Because he lives in the future?

@ThatBrazilianGuy I think what happened was that in the early days of dial-up internet, there were ISPs who gave you some help documentation on how to pick your email username, and it was something like "other people have probably chosen the word you've thought of, so add some digits at the end"
2

Bob
@allquixotic ...I've never seen those

Microsoft promoted that further with things like MSN Gaming Zone which would come up with common English words with random digits after them usually

Bob
1:12 PM
though I do notice some sites offer username suggestions with appended digits

@allquixotic Like El Chapulin Colorado would say, "I suspected it all the time"

also some people put their birth year in their email address to increase ease of memorization

Bob
but in all honesty, it's easy to remember because those digits do hold significant meaning to me

@allquixotic Here it was quite common a few years ago to see usernames with the current year at the end. It always puzzled me: "are you going to create a new email account each year?"

come to think of it, every email address I've used for something significant has always been without any numbers, except for cases where my email address is assigned to me without me getting any say in what it is

1:13 PM
@Bob Yes, a lot of sites does that. Hotmail and gmail, IIRC.

@ThatBrazilianGuy lol, i see "xxxx2011@yahoo.com" all the time for Indian-American immigrants ;p
I'm very much of the Deus Ex tradition of email addresses

I'm not sure if it was more common with teenagers, or if I did saw it more with teenagers because at the time I was a teenager

wsimons@mil.us.gov or something like that

@allquixotic That is...? (You already recommended that game but I haven't played it, my list of "to-play" is slightly overgrown)
@allquixotic Every email and username I ever had since 1998 never had any numbers in it.

Bob
@allquixotic I have trouble picking usernames :(
same with domain names
if someone would suggest one, I'd actually quite happily use it

> something like "other people have probably chosen the word you've thought of, so add some digits at the end"
Makes sense, because north americans and English speakers in general had early (and more popularized) Internet access , the "number-free" usernames were "spent" earlier?
@PatoSáinz FUCK YOU GOVERNMENT FOR CREATING AN UNIVERSAL PATTERN USED ONLY ON OUR COUNTRY AND THUS FORCING US ALL TO SPEND MONEY ON CHANGING THE OUTLETS tier:

@ThatBrazilianGuy lol at you

bottom image says: 104 countries // 46 countries // 41 countries // 39 countries // 15 countries // universal. Top image: ONE COUNTRY. Guess which.

@Bob just decided to take a snowday, so I think I'll resume working on the chatbot until I fall asleep, which could be for a few hours :)

Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy wait, our one is in 15 countries? o.O
@allquixotic I've only seen snow twice my life, both times on mountains :P

1:22 PM
lol. the east coast of the US from Washington DC to Boston is covered in snow
tried to contact coworkers, nobody replied
forget em. I'm taking the day off :D

Bob
China is weird. They use the American-style two-parallel-prong for ungrounded and the Australian two-slanted-plus-one for grounded.
So they can't stick ungrounded plugs into grounded sockets O.O

@ThatBrazilianGuy The third plug is the correct one ;p

!!xkcd iphone

@JourneymanGeek The last plug is the universal one. WHY BAN IT GUVMINT?

Bob
1:25 PM
@allquixotic lemme know if you want me to do anything

obviously it contains a lot of cartel coding and commented out stuff
just trying to get it to do anything

> textwall

Bob
gist really needs a diff

I tried different UA strings to see if it'd make a difference... nope

Bob
@allquixotic uhhh

1:28 PM
Cool, gists get embedded here

@Bob You understand everything on this page?

1:31 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy: might also be simply be due to local testing issues

password already been changed

@allquixotic Used Android app for data transfer both ways to determine best placement for my laptop for optimal bandwidth from router and guess what? It was not polarization because all I had to do is move laptop 2 inches to the right.

thanks whoever deleted that

@Bob Do you know JavaScript?

the testing body won't test non standard plugs, so they're 'illegal'

Bob
1:31 PM
@allquixotic foxes finally outnumbering cats :D

Go Vulpines!
2

Bob
takes off mask

whew... password reset
@Bob which is absolutely absurd -- I'd be able to understand dogs outnumbering cats, but foxes?
I blame Ylvis.

I was a fox before it was cool, as you can plainly see from my hat.

1:34 PM
@KitFox I don't see a hat on your gravatar

That's because it's a scarf.
If I talk more, you can see it better.
Because then my icon will embiggen.

aha, lol

But I have to do it fast, so you don't interrupt me.
Damn.

OK, I need to reduce the number of rooms I am in. It was nice cleaning up after you. I wish all messes were so clean.
Later, peeps.

@KitFox Bye!~

See you in Writers chat sometime?

@KitFox Bye come back when you like cats !

@KitFox Yeah sure.

@allquixotic this does nothing: browser.wait(20000);
ghetto chat markdown. sucks.

Bob
@Gowtham Why not both? :D

I still haven't repaid you

1:43 PM

Bob
You haven't? I completely forgot :P

And since google wallet is down, I can't buy anything online
fucking annoying
@Bob You kept running away
You didn't specify what game you wanted :P

Bob
it wasn't that much, just accept it as a gift :P

I had money in my steam wallet, it's gone now :P

Bob
@Gowtham no games I want enough to bother buying non-sale anyway :P

1:45 PM
I have like $20 to spend in the Amazon games store, which is little more than a legal Steam keygen
pretty sweet

@allquixotic https maybe

@ThatBrazilianGuy: oh, the 'universal' plug not being legal

@jokerdino hola

@Gowtham hey

Bob
1:49 PM
@allquixotic but US only :(

@allquixotic Legal steam keygen?!?!?!?!
@JourneymanGeek No, it is legal, government regulated and stuff. Just ridiculous.
Has anybody seen @flote? Last time he was around he helped me (well, at least tried to) with some help vampire request of mine and I'd like to return the favor by gifting him an IHB bundle.

O_O
