Using the current stable channel release of Chrome (27 something), the header bar of the new theme is a little bit katywampus: Specifically the vertical alignment of the various text, images and menu controls is inconsistent. The menu drop down icon next to my user name is not aligned the same...

Q: A couple of overlap issues

Anything involving user cards and badges still seems a bit edgy. For example this guy is running over behind the next one.... This is even worse in the moderator stats page where apparently we all get extra fishies?

@Jin I think @waxeagle or somebody mentioned the nav bar height before. See ^^^ ... I've "fixed" that issue for at least those of us that are really bothered. Obviously those of us that care can have eat our cake our own way, but I thought I'd at least mention it for consideration.

@Caleb thanks I saw it. I'll reduce the top white bar's height some, and make sure everything's vertically aligned correctly.

@Jin Thanks. That might have been our first actual meta troll. We've had our share of explosions there but most of our trolls have stuck to main. It was nice to have Tim Post clean things up.

grr I hate our database design. I don't want to write two separate but nearly identical queries just to get the total time charged to main accounts and sub accounts.

@Caleb I'd have to investigate that. A bit about the design, we've got projects, account and sub accounts. Time can be charged to accounts or sub accounts. The time entry table takes either an account or sub account id (in the same field) and there is an entry type field that is set to 2 for accounts and 3 for sub accounts.

our typical solution when we need to join time to projects is to feed 2 queries into a temp table that then generates a list of project numbers. 1 query for the accounts and one for the sub accounts.

We've experimented a bit with a single query with subqueries, but it hasn't really helped performance issues (and yes we're heading into performance issues because we're well over a million time_entry records)...

(and in case it's not obvious, IDs are sequential for each table and can (and very likely will) overlap. So an account and a sub account of no relation have the same ID.)

That's a stupid layout but it can be done. Subqueries will keep your performance but you can get fancy with a series of joins -- this is rough pseudo code but somethng like

select from time join accounts on time.account=accountid AND account.type=1 join subaccounts ON time.account=subaccount.id AND account.type=2)

What kind of join you make that depends on what else you are doing with the query but with most types of joins you can join on static parameters like that and chain them to get multiple tables patched together when your keys are stupid like that.

@Caleb gotcha, I think our problem comes in that to get to the project table we have to join the sub account table to the account table (which would aleady be joined) to the project table...which just gets silly. (we all hate this design, but the decision was made years ago and it's kind of stuck...it would be really expensive and very intensive to fix)

maybe I'll get around to posting a fiddle with the basics of the design sometime...

@waxeagle That's why you can alias the tables that come in on a join so that you don't cross wire the one you are selecting with some version of the same that came in on a join.
