Q: What does the Bible say about deducing God's will from celestial or weather events?

AnixxDoes the Bible allow or forbid deducing God's will from celestial or weather events, such as meteorite, lightning etc? What does the text of the Bible say on this topic?

Anybody want to weigh in on this getting reopened? I edited it, but maybe it needs more work.

@Ali Consider this fair warning: if you don't stop spamming us with flags and instead start taking the advice you get in comments about how to bring your participation in line with our site guidelines, you will find yourself getting a suspension.
I realize my comments are direct and even harsh, but you are not listening. Either read and actually implement our advice or let well enough alone. If you want to participate, you must play by the rules. We can help you understand them, but only if you slow down, listen, and actually heed what we're saying.

Phew. Looks like I missed all the fun.

@TRiG yeah, was a long day yesterday

@waxeagle In the aftermath of a similar blowup at Mi Yodeya, I got a six-starred message in V. Bam, which I'm pretty sure is the most stars I've ever got.

@Caleb You judged my answer with bias and ridiculed the answer instead of suggesting why the answer is wrong , of course comments are not meant for discussions
the other "highly voted answers" also were biased and presented One POV and at the same time u accuse me of not bringing other POV to the table
@jcolebrand i had gone for your suggestion , but the following question was blocked /?
hi @TRiG
@Caleb Your argument has been answered :even if they(Muslims) themselves dont call themselves christians but believe in the traditions of Jesus Christ. Infact even if Jesus would come to earth(as is prophesied) his views wont be acceptable on Christianity.SE because he never claimed to be "Christian" and surely wont call himself "Christian" when he comes and what he will preach wont come from Catholic\Protestant\Jehova...... Gospel. — Ali 13 hours ago
e.g: If you have a son in your family and he finds the family corrupt and moves out of it,and hence would claim that he is not your son, will it prevent you from calling him your son? and would it prevent him from talking part in a family discussion? — Ali 13 hours ago

@Ali to be fair, you didn't actually follow my suggestion. But I'm leaving my computer for a bit.

Ali
@jcolebrand oops i is now not closed
any ways would love to know your suggestions
and follow them

@Ali It doesn't help to delete relevant information. For people who are confused, the question you referred to is:

Q: Is the Bible considered a reliable historical resource?

NapoleonothecakeI realize there is probably a large spectrum of opinions on this matter. Nevertheless, what is the general consensus among academics on the historical reliability of the Bible? Is it a sound historical document or is it simply a book of legends? Considering the number of books that comprise the B...

Ali
@Caleb is clearly biased

Note that this is a History.SE question.

Ali
6:02 PM
that was a mistake
hence i deleted it

@Ali Aren't we all? ;)

Ali
No
@JonEricson i find you , @jcolebrand to be least biased
and
@waxeagle too

@Ali Probably because we've spent less time in conversation with you.

@Ali ooh which category am I in? do I make your naughty list or the nice one?

Ali
@JonEricson have you read he Quran religiously?
@waxeagle nice one

6:04 PM
@Ali I've not read it at all. Just cherry picking.
It's one of the reasons I don't often answer Islam.SE questions.

Ali
Ok i sincerely advise you to read it, and write your experiences in your interesting blog
Now i need to go to bed Bye Bye Bye :~)
here is a gift for you and all , to get a free copy of Quran at your doorsteps: islamunveiled.org/eng/modules.php?name=free_books
@JonEricson do read it
Bye

@Ali I've got an English translation on my Kindle. It might need to wait for me to finish one or two other books first, however. ;)

6:18 PM
@Ali can one read the Quran academically or poetically instead?

A: Should adherence to official doctrines be the only judge of quality?

TRiGWhen a question is based on a specific doctrinal position (as they should be), answers from outside that position are by definition off topic. It really is that simple. That means that your answer shouldn't be about your own beliefs. I've certainly expressed my own beliefs in chat and the occasi...

> Your answer shouldn't be about your own beliefs. ... Most of my answers are not about my personal beliefs. Why should they be? The question wasn't about what TRiG believed on the topic.
Non-Christians (like me) can participate, but that doesn't mean that non-Christianity is on topic.

@TRiG Well Said. Yeah, been a circus around here lately.

8:32 PM
@Ali Please do not ping me more than once the same things. I got the ping when you posted that comment, I don't need you to repeat it by copying it into chat.
@Ali I did not accuse you ave "not bringing another POV to the table". I accused you of plagiarism and of not representing a Christian view in your answer. Both were valid concerns. And yes, after you insisted on keeping it, I pretty much ridiculed the content you were trying to copy because it is such poor scholarship. The issue here has never been bias (and I don't claim to be unbiased), but your not following our site's guidelines for answers.

Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man's rep on Christianity.SE; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Q: What is the meaning of "calculate" in Revelation 13:18?

Jon EricsonThis is perhaps the most famous prophesy in popular culture: This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.1 —Revelation 13:18 (ESV) The ESV footnote is: Some manuscripts 616 Ple...

@fredsbend I think @Ele managed to screen grab one of his at that number as well :) But that was a bit ago :)

8:51 PM
@JonEricson I put that in my favorites.

@fredsbend It's got one good answer. I wouldn't object to another. ;)

@JonEricson You don't want to hear the answer I got. But maybe you do. It's pretty inflammatory to a certain group. Wouldn't quite fit on BH.SE anyway.
