@PeterTurner Yes, verse 2 reminds me of Eustace in the Dawn Treader. I also like Gray Havens than Newsboys although in general I'm not into the genre.

Have any of you seen the show Evil? For secular TV I thought it had quiet a respectful view of the Catholic Church.

@PeterTurner Well, Season 2 is still rather far from Matt 16 where St. Peter got it. The show handle the Messianic secret rather well, by starting with private revelations and by emphasizing the danger of the Romans prematurely arresting Jesus. I especially like Jesus's dialog with Quintus and Nicodemus. It's quite touching how Nicodemus got the full significance right away, worshiping Jesus way before the disciples did. The politics between the schools of Shamai and Hillel is quite good too.

@PeterTurner BTW, what do you think of the 2013 remake of Chesterton's Father Brown TV Series starring Mark Williams. Is it faithful enough? How does it compare with the 1974 version ?

@GratefulDisciple pathetic and a waste of time, they reduce Fr. Brown to a relativist, wishy washy useless modern priest - exactly the opposite of who he was in the book and everything Chesterton hated. Gilbert magazine refers to it as "the TV show that shares the name with our favorite priest detective"

@curiousdannii somehow I bet it won't last (I think people said that about Lucifer too)! No, I haven't watched anything on TV outside of Marvel shows, the Chosen and sometimes Football for the last 15 years.

@PeterTurner I actually watched the 2013 version of "The Hammer of God", which is episode 1 (probably the pilot). I'm sorry that they ruined Fr. Brown in that series. That's why I was skeptical and asked you in the first place. But it's consistent with my experience with Jane Austen adaptations of Pride and Prejudice. I like the 1980 version a lot more than the 2015 version.

@PeterTurner Just read my first Father Brown short story The Hammer of God courtesy of archive.org to compare it with the 2013 episode. The episode added much more material, about 80% not in the story, giving motives to each suspect and add colorful scenes. Also, in the episode Father Brown gave one stern admonishment worthy of a priest to Rev. Wilfred Bohun when the Rev. tried to say how God must have supported his action.

yeah, that one's public domain too, it's on librivox collected with the Innocence of Father Brown. I bought the big Penguin collection a few years ago. I read almost all the stories to my boys. There's even one in that collection where the first half of the story was written by someone else and Chesterton wrote the second half, which was interesting.

The thing I like about Fr. Brown is that he doesn't always hand over the culprit to the authorities, he more or less gets them to hand themselves over (assuming they don't commit suicide first)

@PeterTurner I'll definitely read more Father Brown stories. In the 2013 episode it's very obvious how Fr. Brown preserves the sanctity of confession but YET does something about it. One is by encouraging the blacksmith to talk to his wife in jail (who turned herself in as the murderer to protect her husband by signing false confession). Another by confronting the Reverend into confessing and offering forgiveness so he can at least have salvation, and leaves it to the Reverend to turn himself in.
