@PeterTurner That link does not say that Muhammad pbuh is a prophet like Jesus. It is like how some Jews rejected Jesus , some Christians rejected Muhammad. But many Chrsitans at the time of Muhammad pbuh did embrace Islam. Infact one of the famous cristian King Negus who seemed to be a catholic embraced Islam.
I would say that Muhammad pbuh was more successful like Moses than Jesus in winning the hearts of the people.

One major reason behind the Europeans backwardness was that their freedom of thought was stifled by dogmatic Christianity. @AskElisha This question assumes that religion+politics are causing the delaying the progress of the Europeans in comparison to the Turks; I'd rather assume that the relationship between technology/societal advancement and religion+politics is very complex and correlational.
