I hope I didn't come across as harsh ... assuming that was about my comments on the tag synonym thing ... I was just trying to suggest what I think is the best way to use the format based on experience from other metas.
This is half a question, half an announcement. I will be going through the list of tags and merging particularly bad ones (e.g. ones that aren't mathematical or are too specific) into the tag [tag-removed]. I will also be creating tag synonyms. Any suggestions for mergers or synonyms should go...
@Flimzy What about voting? If some people want to go one way and some another it's helpful to have answers that can be votted on. Comments are a hard way to determain concensus.
@Flimzy So do I, which is why I still advocate a question thread for each one, but if the former then we could improvise with an answer per-item and up/down votes and comments.
I'm looking at the Math.SE thread mentioned and it's two pages, multiple people have tried to summarize the state of things, somebody tried to make a chronological view of it, and I still can't figure out what's exactly happened with some of them (are downvoted ones in the list of actions take? Hard to see.)
Why does the Bible praise the effects of alcohol? How are we supposed to know when those effects have gone too far? I am mostly confused about this verse:
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto
those that be of heavy hearts. Proverbs 31:6

@Purmou: Also add a sentence saying something along the lines of "Upvote the tag synonyms you think should happen and downvote the ones you think shouldn't happen." and possibly one along the lines of "Once a suggestion reaches a limit of [say] +3, the tag synonym will be created."
Post suggestions that you see fit as answers, and upvotes and downvotes will determine the community's reaction. 3-5 upvotes generally warrants a successful suggestions.
@Purmou: Based on Caleb's answer here in chat, I suggest putting "after a day" between "3-5 votes" and "generally". And fixing that typo, of course. ;P
