8:00 AM
@Flimzy lol

yeah, i was gonna edit that
but i couldn't come up with a much better one
see, joining this site re-sparked my interest in Chrisitianity

"first part" perhaps?
@Purmou Cool!

up to when the beta started, i didn't really embrace it
so i came into this without much knowledge
obviously, i've asked more questions than given answers
but you know, it's a great experience

@Purmou Sweet.

so yeah, really gotta go now, lol

8:02 AM
@Purmou Eh? (And Good-morning :)

oh
bad timing for me, lol

Haven't I seen some SE sites just quoting Wikipedia inline for some of their tags?

hey caleb
super tired
was just saying that your comment was brutal, haha

@Caleb: Oh, hello there. You came in around the time I was about to leave... :P

I hope I didn't come across as harsh ... assuming that was about my comments on the tag synonym thing ... I was just trying to suggest what I think is the best way to use the format based on experience from other metas.

8:04 AM
i actually thought one thread like question would work for tag synonyms

If you think I was too ters I'll revise it after coffee :)

like that math SE site's meta had
13
Q: Tag merging and synonyms

Qiaochu YuanThis is half a question, half an announcement. I will be going through the list of tags and merging particularly bad ones (e.g. ones that aren't mathematical or are too specific) into the tag [tag-removed]. I will also be creating tag synonyms. Any suggestions for mergers or synonyms should go...

and no, not at all
so if you didn't mean to come across harsh, than it's fine
it's always hard to tell tone on the internet
because your comment is totally valid

I agree they are separate issues.
Ideally, I think Purmou should have posted his suggestions in an answer. Or well, in two answers. So they could be voted on separately.

i'll go do that, actually

Then Caleb could have commented/voted those answers individually

8:06 AM
is it too late though?
well, caleb did post his comments as answers

@Purmou No, I don't think so.

If we follow the Math.SE example, I don't htink it's too late. that seems to be a very dynamic "question"

After all, only three of us have seen it yet.

One of their answers is constantly updated with every change that's made

@Flimzy What about voting? If some people want to go one way and some another it's helpful to have answers that can be votted on. Comments are a hard way to determain concensus.

8:07 AM
Caleb: If he originally had two questions, I think that would accomplish that... don't you think? one for the kjv tag, and one for destiny

they can vote on the suggestion at hand, aka the answer

then you could +1 kjv and -1 destiny

Do we expect a high volume of low-controversy suggestons or just a periodical handful of re-factoring issues?

I suspect the latter

i think once we go into public beta, we'll get a good number of suggestions

8:08 AM
er

there are a lot of similar tags already
a few that can be synonyms
i won't dig through them right now though, but

well, I mean to say... I think we will have a high volume of low-controversy suggestions... and a periodic handful of re-factoring issues.

@Flimzy So do I, which is why I still advocate a question thread for each one, but if the former then we could improvise with an answer per-item and up/down votes and comments.

Oh, I understand your suggestion now.
I have no strong opinion.
I was in the middle of posting a new question for my communion suggestion, when the Math.SE example was pointed out to me, so I just added an answer.

@Caleb I think we should have one for the suggestions and either edit the question for the re-factoring or make new "questions" for the re-factoring.

8:10 AM
i just appreciate the uniformity that it would carry with it, to have one question/thread for all suggestions

I'm looking at the Math.SE thread mentioned and it's two pages, multiple people have tried to summarize the state of things, somebody tried to make a chronological view of it, and I still can't figure out what's exactly happened with some of them (are downvoted ones in the list of actions take? Hard to see.)

I suppose it's a question of who will be acting on the suggestions

@Caleb Well, Math.SE WAS an earlier site.

Right now, that answer is SE staff :)
I have no idea what they prefer

Well, we can set the trend right now so that it's as clean as possible.

Q: How far is too far when it comes to drinking alcohol?

dleyva3Why does the Bible praise the effects of alcohol? How are we supposed to know when those effects have gone too far? I am mostly confused about this verse: Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Proverbs 31:6 Phrases like "wine that...

i spot a bounty

@Purmou Woah...first one on this site.

Let me write an answer... as soon as I finish this glass of wine!

@Flimzy LOL.
Anyway, about the tag synonyms thingy...
I think the question should be edited to remove the tag suggestions.
Said tag synonym suggestions should be reposted as answers.
If an answer has a net score of say...+3 or so, someone should do the change and then edit the answer to indicate that it has been done.

@ElendiaStarman I agree it should be edited one way or another ... right now it doesn't fit EITHER of the formats we have been discussing.

just let me know what to do :P

8:16 AM
@Purmou ...I just realized that I can edit it. :P

indeed, you can :P
anyone could and should edit it, but i'll post them as answers
if that's what we've agreed on, anyways

@Caleb: Can you delete your answer and post what you said there as comments to Purmou's (coming) answers?

@ElendiaStarman Yes I'll update my stuff when you guys edit the Q

@Purmou: Actually, I can't edit it. Just remove everything after the first sentence.

okay, i'm done

8:19 AM
@Purmou: Also add a sentence saying something along the lines of "Upvote the tag synonyms you think should happen and downvote the ones you think shouldn't happen." and possibly one along the lines of "Once a suggestion reaches a limit of [say] +3, the tag synonym will be created."
Dang! Didn't post quick enough! :P

hehe
Post suggestions that you see fit as answers, and upvotes and downvotes will determine the community's reaction. 3-5 upvotes generally warrants a successful suggestions.

That's good, except that "suggestions" shouldn't be plural.

and i saved it with a typo
>.<

[giggles]

i really gotta read over my edits :P

8:23 AM
@Caleb: What do you think about waiting a day before enacting suggested changes?

i'll be back in a little bit, guys

@Purmou Depending on how long you'll be away, I may be gone by the time you get back. :P

@ElendiaStarman sure.

@Purmou: Based on Caleb's answer here in chat, I suggest putting "after a day" between "3-5 votes" and "generally". And fixing that typo, of course. ;P

back

8:38 AM
How do I make tags appear in posts? I seem to have forgotten...

put 'tag:tag-name' in square brackets instead of single quotes

[ tag:tagname ]

[chuckle]

without spaces

8:38 AM
ohhh...okay

There we go.

haha

Can we make and synonyms?
3

8:39 AM
XD
man, flimzy
you walked all over my answer
:P

I'm disappointed with the tag markup in chat... it's just a box... it doesn't look like a tag at all. at least not in my browser.
@Purmou: which answer?

the one with the bounty

@Flimzy LOL. :P

Ah yeah... well... that's because I had a glass of wine to clear my head first :P
(hrm, nobody's talked about alcohol's ability to clear one's mind!)

8:41 AM
lol

@Flimzy: You don't have scriptural support for #2!
:P

I know... I figured it was pretty obvious...

we can overlook that, lol

I mean, I think most Christians equate selfishness with sin... I didn't feel like I needed a verse that said not to sin.

8:44 AM
@Flimzy :)
Oh, whoops; [tag::)]
...well, darn. That didn't work. :P

there's a colon in the tag name, that's why

[tag: :)]

[tag:=)]
this is your best bet
but that didn't work either
:P

The way this question has been re-worded, I think my question christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/875/…, is now a duplicate.

Hmmm... [tag: :P]

8:46 AM
@Flimzy I still don't think so.

@Flimzy I don't really think so...

your is asking whether it's wrong at all
this one is asking how much is wrong?

Yes, but "Not at all" would be a valid answer to the newly-reworded question.

hm
i still don't think so

It also seems dirty for me to provide an answer to the first question saying it's okay to drink in some cases... then also ask "Is it okay to drink?" in another question.

8:47 AM
we'll see

Although, most of the questions on the site now are of a slightly rhetorical nature anyway

that's what i was wondering

i assumed that a lot of these questions were to just get the beta on to a good start

[tag:I_love_tagging]

8:48 AM
Indeed.

The one before didn't work. :P

Most, if not all, of the questions I've asked were for the purpose of beta-testing the questions

is back

If we weren't in beta, I'd have deleted most of the closed/down-voted ones by now

a lot of mine were as well

8:48 AM
but I think it's good to leave them there for documentation

@Flimzy That's how a couple of mine are as well.

Can somebody make me room admin?

...
that's not really how it works
lol

8:49 AM
@Amithkk No, right now Roland Taylor is the admin...and you're probably not gonna get it through brute-force. :P
@Amithkk Did you mean: ?

@ElendiaStarman Are you..... google?

@Amithkk ...what kind of a question is that?!?

Please use the offensive flags lightly, they carry an automatic 30 minute chat suspension. Only use them for really offensive content or insults.

Of course I am! :P
@Fabian Wait...what happened?

8:51 AM
@Fabian ??

There was a flag in this room just some minutes ago

on what message?
@Fabian what message was flagged?

12 mins ago, by Flimzy
(hrm, nobody's talked about alcohol's ability to clear one's mind!)

...weird.

so flimzy's been kicked?
i didn't flag that 0.o

8:54 AM
I don't feel kicked... can you read me?

@Purmou Neither did I...

@Purmou No, I declared it invalid

i see you just fine.
Oh, i see.

@Flimzy Loud and clear.

@Flimzy We can see you.

8:55 AM

well that's interesting

@Fabian I don't think that should have been flagged at all --- thanks for pointing that out.

@Flimzy We can see you

@Caleb he declared it invalid

Whats wrong with wine

8:56 AM
@Amithkk some people would find that offensive

@Amithkk I call picture-editing. :P

there's nothing wrong with win

Looks like an old example of google bombing
I think they cleaned most of that up
At one time, a search for "George W. Bush" showed results for "Failure"

@Flimzy nah, he edited that picture

@ElendiaStarman Icall Fakethesearch.com

8:57 AM
@Flimzy I remember that one... :P
@Amithkk Oh niiiiccceee... :P

@Amithkk LOL.

hahaha

Cute site
I only need 2 more up-votes to be in the lead for the 50 reputation that I so desperately need!
