12:47 AM
@ElendiaStarman Vox is a one time only (Or I'd have a bunch of on Gardening and RPG...)

1:31 AM
@waxeagle Ahhhh...okay. Lol. Civic Duty, here I come!

@ElendiaStarman I actually just got Electorate on RPG recently :). My only gold badge anywhere. Civic duty is pretty easy if you vote every day...

@waxeagle Yeah, I'm already well on my way to Civic Duty. :P

1:56 AM
I have started commenting or flagging answers that are too general/short/no user content. Getting sick of finding answers that are
A equally valid on all questions
B just a single scripture verse
C contain no user generated content

2:43 AM
@Dori - would you prefer on potential copyright stuff (wall of text quotes) a flag and comment or simply a flag?

If there's even a potential copyright issue (imo): flag, comment, and suggest an edit. But then, I'm a copyright extremist.

@Dori I agree. On the mod side I ere on the side of burn it with fire IMO :)

@waxeagle Ditto here—but flag, comment, and edit is the place to start.

@Dori good deal. Will add in the edit in the future.

3:01 AM
dang, convention already...that was fast

3:12 AM
hey @Kramii how are you today?

3:28 AM
researching this question atm:

Q: Why is "Jesus" all caps in Matthew 1:21 and Luke 1:31?

dleyva3It's only in the King James and the New King James, but why? Jesus' name is all caps: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.Matthew 1:21 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, an...

found at least a few quacks...
In addition to this, another interesting thing found only in the King James Bible is the name JEHOVAH in capital letters is found four times in the Old Testament - Exodus 6:3; Psalms 83:18; Isaiah 12: 2 and 26:4. Likewise the name JESUS in capital letters is found only four times in the New Testament - Matthew 1:21, 25; 27:37; and John 19:19. Four is the number of the earth and JEHOVAH God Himself has come to this earth to save His people from their sins.

So, only in the King James Bible do we have these precious truths revealed. This is just one of the many marks of God on this Book that
So hang on a sec. A typesetting decision to print Jesus' name in all caps 4 times leads you to believe that the KJV is the only valid version? WTH...
now if I can just figure out why. I have this funny feeling its going to be something like Gutenberg ran out of lowercase letters while he was typesetting that page so he used caps for Jesus there and its just sort of stuck...

@waxeagle
@waxeagle lets talk

@JonathonByrd yes?
sure

@waxeagle How can you seriously accept mormonism here?
Its a COMPLETELY different belief
they do not believe that christ came in the flesh or died on the cross.
they deny the gospel

to be frank, I never understood about mormons.

they basically believe that jesus was A god that owns this planet and you can become a god and own a planet of your own
they do not believe that jesus came in the flesh or that he died on the cross
they say that he was only here in the spirit

3:38 AM
@Jonathon ...THats total BS.....

We wouldn't accept Judaism here, why would we ever accept Mormonism?
I dont understand

@JonathonByrd none of that matters in the eyes of SE. They self Identify as Christians after that we don't have an argument.

This is OUR beta site @waxeagle we have a choice to decide on that

I accept them here because I hope that by seeing the truth they will come to understand they are wrong.

We can decide on it right now

3:39 AM
@Wax Christians are the ones who has accepted jesus as their savior. The mormons in no way does that.

ok, with that last message I can KIND OF see your point of view

@JonathonByrd I in no way think they are Christians.

I do not know which is more idiotic, Pastafarian, or Mormons....

but the last thing that I want to see when I load up this site is somebody telling an unbeliever that they need to donate to the mormon church so that they can become an elder and have their own planet

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū we won't get anywhere belittling them either

3:41 AM
@jona the thoguht of it makes me chuckle.

I'm seriously on the edge of just giving up on this site already if we are going to allow them to answer from the book of mormon

@Wax if you would allow Mormons, why don't we allow pastfarians as well?

my blood is boiling
and why wouldnt we allow islam as well?
they believe in Jesus

@JonathonByrd I don't think muslims claim to be christians

YEah, and next, Catholics are gonna come in and say that its ok to tribute dead anamals.

3:42 AM
hahaha
comon chaos

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū unfamiliar with the sect/cult whatever

be serious chaos

comon?
Well, catholics does say that.
They are trying to mix all the religion in the world.

I'm totally fine with catholics because the have the same gospel
I'm not ok with a sect to come in with an entirely different book and gospel

@Jona well... They are slightly off point, you know, with saint Maria and stuff.

3:44 AM
It's seriously no different then having Judaism coming in here and telling us that we all need to look to the law
Or Islam coming in and telling us that Jesus is their disciple and that we need to kill the jews

Next, Islam and Jewish will began terrorist trolling.

Or mormons coming in here telling us that we can choose our neighbors wife in the afterlife if we are better then our neighbor

@JonathonByrd its not about what they believe. Its much more about how they identify themselves. If we can show them the truth through our behavior maybe one of them comes to the light. That is truly the best we can hope for.

It just does make sense to me

@Wax well.. I can see your point. However, won't there be chance that one of us will get into those things?

3:45 AM
Can we AT LEAST outlaw the book of mormon or something

We should have some kind of code of our beliefs.

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū yes there is. but there is that chance every time your open your door to talk to a JW too isn't there?

we believe that Jesus died on the cross for forgiveness of sin

@Wax good point.

3:47 AM
what if Islam started calling themselves Christian?

@JonathonByrd and how are we going to decide that? You realize there are 1000s of denominations for a reason right?

sure, I'm fine with those thousands, they all read from the bible

@JonathonByrd then we welcome them and keep on our merry way, we give better written and better reasoned answers and move on with our lives

im not ok when one of them comes in and re-writes the bible

@Jona that will be hell confusing. What if new believers come here and began to believe that Islam is Christian...

3:48 AM
lol
Is there no limitations that we can impose?

How about we let them create their own Q&A?
That would be better.

"Meta is your opportunity to take control; to take ownership of your site; to become self governing. It is your Constitutional Convention."
thats what I was proposing

@JonathonByrd so answer Hedgemage's question. Say yes I want to vote Mormonism and JWs off the island.
see what he community thinks.

We could ask this question to Meta. Are we Protestant Christians? Or mix of everythign else? If it is the second, I'd leave in a second. I'd rather die then to serve multiple figures.

3:51 AM
@Wax cant we include catholic?

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū no
in fact hell no
1 its a large part of our user base. 2 they are christians by any but the strictest definition of the word. Without them none of us would likely know the truth

@wax There is the differnce between Protestant and Catholic. Martin Luther would flip in his grave if Catholic and Protestans were considered a same thing.

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū right, but this is christiantiy.se not protestant.se if you want to start that go ahead and propose it on area51, see you in a year or so.
if its not closed as a dupe almost immediately of this one.

You do know what Catholic does, don;t you? They try to combine every aspect of any kind of religion that enters them!

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū I've lived in Latin America. I've interacted with catholics. Lets be clear here I am talking about devout practicing catholics. Not the cultural catholics.
they believe in Jesus and theirs sins are no worse than ours.

3:55 AM
@Wax sigh alright then....

@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū do you dispute this fact?

just. keep in mind that they dont have seperate name for nothing.
I gotta sleep. see ya.

[shakes head] I don't agree with Mormon beliefs either (or many of Catholicism) but I for one would not kick them off this site.
They DO self-identify as Christian.

@ElendiaStarman glad to know someone agrees with me :) seems like that hasn't happened often here :)

@waxeagle Lol. :)

3:59 AM
@ElendiaStarman I haven't even started in on why I believe in infant baptism yet :). I seriously don't have time for that tonight though...

@waxeagle But what would be the point of that? o.O

@ElendiaStarman the point of what? infant baptism? its actually an interesting argument I can summarize it quickly but I don't have time for the full argument

@waxeagle No no no...the point of starting a..."discussion" about that right now.

@ElendiaStarman oh no real point, just stirring up trouble :)
getting people thinking and talking

@waxeagle Lol. It's always easy to stir up trouble in a community like this... :P

4:03 AM
@ElendiaStarman I love doctrine debates and my skills are seriously rusty. I went to a college where too many people agreed with each other :)

@waxeagle Ahhh...lol. I prefer debating with non-Christians myself... :P
...which I suppose makes sense given that I'm an Armeninian...

@ElendiaStarman :)

ok I posted

A: Christianity.SE vs. Survivor

Jonathon ByrdI can understand your concern HedgeMeg. We don't want to start telling people that only south eastern baptists are welcome on the site or something. HOWEVER All of the denominations that you've mentioned agree with one thing, Jesus Christ died on the cross for the forgiveness of sin. I do not ...

@JonathonByrd I'd suggest naming Mormonism in there. No sense in beating around the bushes.

@ElendiaStarman done
@ElendiaStarman whats your take on my answer?

4:10 AM
@JonathonByrd I have downvoted and left a reason which I rarely do on Meta

@JonathonByrd Hmmm...I understand it very well, but I don't think I totally agree.

So you both feel that it's perfectly reasonable for people to start quoting from the book of alma?

@Jonathon: Also, do keep in mind that we (me and wax) are but two members of a community.

This is the problem with Christianity. You're willing to accept any gospel that walks in off the street

@JonathonByrd if they are answering a question that either does not specify tradition or a Mormon tagged question yes.

4:12 AM
How can we discuss two completely different gospels on this site?
I just dont understand that
we are not doing this with judaism

@JonathonByrd note neither @ElendiaStarman or I belive they are chrisitans and have said as much multiple times

why are the christians the ones that have to share?
but neither of you are willing to draw the line anywhere

@JonathonByrd We draw the line at those who self-identify as Christians.

@JonathonByrd nope. I don't see the point really

If Muslims started proclaiming themselves Christian, that'd be really weird... >.>

4:14 AM
and if they did would you accept them?

@JonathonByrd Allowing questions and answers on this site is in no way equivolant to accepting their faith and gospel as true.

What do you do when someone says that you aren't a real Christian, and shouldn't be allowed to post?
4
A: What about groups that are not considered by some to be Christian, who consider themselves Christian?

DoriIntro To expand on something I previously wrote on philosophy.se: Take a group we'll call A. All members of A consider themselves to be Christian, are baptized, and believe that Jesus was the son of God, he died on the cross for our sins, and we can get to heaven through faith in him. On the o...

@Dori THIS!

'Cause they do exist, y'know.

@Dori Perfect for this discussion... >.>

4:17 AM
For every self-identified Christian group, there's another self-identified Christian group saying the first group is damned.
6

@Dori exactly. The Mormons on the site could vote off the mainline evangelicals. Or even more likely the Catholics could decide we aren't Christians and throw us out (which up until about 11 years ago they believed).

@waxeagle Did you read what I wrote? Still true today, actually.
(okay, Protestants have a non-zero chance of getting into heaven, but they've got a much tougher road than Catholics, per the current Pope)

@Dori aw shoot I misread that....I thought it was a repeal, but no its a continuation...or at least saying we believe a lesser form.
@Dori I'm going to call this Dori's law of religion.

@waxeagle LOL.

@waxeagle thats good!

4:20 AM
If we let it get more and more narrow, pretty soon we're down to the Westboro Baptist Church—and that's simply (imo) not acceptable.

Mormons don't fall into this category tho
JW do, mormons dont

Ultimately this site should be a place to learn and express our learning. Its not a church and its not a religious institution.

@Dori and if we dont draw the line somewhere, we will go nowhere. this site will die
the opposite is also true

@JonathonByrd Pfft...this site's not gonna die because we allowed a small percentage of the "Christian" population to stay...

if we accept EVERYTHING and everyone that confess themselves to be christian, this site will become worthless
as soon as people start finding mormon answers on this site they will never come back

4:22 AM
@JonathonByrd We DO have the tools of upvoting and downvoting...

A faith that can't handle exposure to other faiths and to some questioning isn't much of a faith
3

I never go back to sites that push mormon theology
that doesnt matter el

@JonathonByrd Nobody is asking YOU to accept them as Christian or to accept their answers as representing your view of Christianity.

@JonathonByrd So ignore the lds tag

@Jonathan: Okay. Seriously. How many Mormons do think there are actually on the site?

4:22 AM
@Dori dori its not that. it's the fact that we see judaism as a completely different religion. thus they have their own site

@JonathonByrd actually it really does.
@ElendiaStarman I would guess from question volume between none and 15
out of 200

@Dori I may be able to do that becuase I have had this long drawn out conversation with you. But when other people start landing on posts from google and start seeing mormon theology they will never come back

@ElendiaStarman There are at least a couple even in this private beta.

this site will die
guaranteed

@JonathonByrd Then go. Start the exodus.

4:24 AM
@JonathonByrd There won't be THAT many people who will never come back. A far greater proportion would stay.

This question isn't on the table.

@Caleb Yeah, I felt like there had to be at least a couple.

@Dori Are you telling me that it's perfectly acceptable for judaism to start posting on this site?
telling us that we are wrong and that we need to migrate to jewish beliefs?

@JonathonByrd this is a strawman.

@JonathonByrd Well, Jews don't self-identify as Christian, do they?

4:26 AM
If someone has a problem with others even existing on the same site (that is, even after they've ignored the topics using tags), then they have a problem

@ElendiaStarman its not a strawman, its a perfect example
both have their individual beliefs but one chooses to call themselves christians FOR NO OTHER REASON BUT TO BE ACCEPTED

@JonathonByrd I'm saying that when Jane and Joe come in and start saying that you aren't a real Christian and that you shouldn't be allowed to post, I'll be defending your right to do so.
2

I don't see how you dont see that

@JonathonByrd its a completely untenable example that you have set up to burn to make your point. I'd say its a strawman

@JonathonByrd Well, the Mormons' main character/focus is Christ, right?

4:28 AM
not the christ that you think of
their christ was a pair of floating eyes LITERALLY that never existed and never died

@JonathonByrd ...I'd like to see where you get that from. o.O

they do NOT believe even closely the same that we do
I just spoke to one on my doorstep yesterday
he told me

@JonathonByrd come on, you can do better than that. How about some literature.

@ElendiaStarman @JonathonByrd is right about how different their theology is ... in spite of their advertising it otherwise on the first pass. That's not the point here.

@Caleb I know its strange. And you are correct their theology isn't the point. The point is that we are open to all groups who self identify as Christians.
IF muslims, Jews of Cooks.Se decide to self identify as Christians they are welcome here too.

4:31 AM
@Caleb Well, it seems that we're having to get to the extreme core of "Christianity".

no thats not the goal EL
I do not want to specify an extreme core

@JonathonByrd My point is that we have different criteria for allowing Mormons on this site. One of which has to do with what it means to be Christian, basically.

I do not want to cut off any denomination that considers themselves Christian UNLESS that group is only calling themselves christian in order that people will more easily accept their COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BELIEF
thats a Troll, A virus, a leach

@JonathonByrd Okay, I'm saying that your group is only calling themselves Christian, for whatever reason. Bye!

Dori, you are like the most unlikely mod I have ever encountered
Jesus Christ gave us a gospel, that he died for our sins. Every single denomination except one agrees with this

4:35 AM
@JonathonByrd That's because Stack doesn't require that we be cookie cutters, and we're allowed to have different opinions. Does that make them more forgiving than your Church?

they call themselves christian.
except the one, that calls themselves mormon
Dori, you're out of line.

@JonathonByrd Do you see her point?

@Caleb Clearly, he does not.
Nor does he understand what my point is. I don't even think he's listening.

I am listening, thank you.
however not very appreciative of your attitude, I have not begun to insult as you have

What should SE do when the Westboro Baptist Church comes in and says that you aren't a real Christian?
3

4:39 AM
If they did, I wouldn't care if they posted their theology.
I seriously don't have a problem with any of those kinds of churchs
even if they preach a horrible message
that's not the point here

That's not the point. The point is that they don't want you to post yours.

@JonathonByrd Take a deep breath man and step back and try to understand where SE is coming from as a company. @Dori isn't insulting you the way you are LDS and the SE defined scope for this site.

@Dori Dori has clearly insulted me here.

Gotta go ... don't make this transcript 1500 pages before I get back here.

ttyl calen
caleb

4:40 AM
@JonathonByrd That's not the point. The point is that you are not guiltless of doing the same.

peace

@Caleb We'll try! :P Seeya!

@JonathonByrd I don't see it; you aren't even mentioned in that post.

@JonathonByrd If its clear why don't I see it?

nice guys nice..

4:41 AM
@JonathonByrd I don't think so. She's trying to help you see this from the other side of the mirror by turning your argument around ... she hasn't been offensive.

Well I guess as a business it's your call.
In my opinion she has been offensive and insulting. but that doesn't matter, I'm not arguing that point.

@Jonathon: Here's an idea: next time you meet a Mormon, ask them why they consider themselves Christian.

@JonathonByrd Then why do you keep bringing it up?

@ElendiaStarman Sounds like a pretty good question for this site to me

@JonathonByrd Bring it up then!

4:44 AM
@JonathonByrd But would you allow them to answer?

Yes dori, I would.

@JonathonByrd Then why not allow them to answer others, as well?

if I answered that @waxeagle would yell strawman again

@JonathonByrd pick a new argument then that one isn't working

It would be the same as me joining the Judaism site.

4:47 AM
@JonathonByrd do you self identify as a jew?

I can participate, but my theology has no room there unless explicitly requested

@waxeagle Took the words out of my mouth.

What would happen if I began posting my theology on the judaism site?
curious
@Dori what would you tell me?
probably that I was a troll looking for an argument
would you not defend my right to post there?

@JonathonByrd Depends on what it was you were posting, and why.

And that's the key Dori
I would be posting something that is counter to the GENERALIZED beliefs of judaism
the most vague belief would be contradicted

4:49 AM
> On SO, it's perfectly acceptable to post a problem and say you're only interested in solutions that use Java. If someone then replies with a paean to C++, they're liable to get labeled a troll and treated accordingly.
> if you want to contribute an answer, but it's not what the OP asked for—don't. You can take it to Chat, or put it on your blog, or whatever, but you should not post it as an answer to the question.
I wrote all of this in that answer I linked to earlier.
If you post a question solely for a certain group (i.e., non-Mormon), and say so explicitly, then no, I don't think that Mormon answers should be allowed.
BUT if you want an answer from anyone who self-identifies as Christian, then you will get what you get.
But when you say that a group that self-identifies as Christian should never post on christianity.se, well, that I've got a problem with.

Right and if you identify your questions as "Proestant" or "catholic" or "LDS" then you should get answers from that perspective (regardless of authorship)
I for one will never specify which sect I am looking for answers from because quite frankly I don't care. I'm also not going to spend much time voting on answers form an LDS perspective or a Catholic perspective (although much more likely to upvote cathlic than LDS) because I'd rather see the protestant stuff on top.

A: What’s the “elevator pitch” for our site?

Jonathon Byrd"Christianity.SE is place to search for the Truth about God. Ask Questions and get answers from every point of view.

Ok, so as hard as it is to accept mormon theology I will say this.
I'm willing to allow them to participate because I know that ultimately, truth will prevail.

@JonathonByrd this was my point about an hour and a half ago...

I have never had a problem with how you have displayed your point of view. I have re-read many of your statements that began to get me to see from a different perspective. I appreciate the conversation that you and I have had.
On the other hand, I feel that dori has been completely disrespectful

1 hour ago, by wax eagle
I accept them here because I hope that by seeing the truth they will come to understand they are wrong.

4:59 AM
yes, I appreciated that specific post as well wax

I'm standing by this statement:
33 mins ago, by Dori
@JonathonByrd I'm saying that when Jane and Joe come in and start saying that you aren't a real Christian and that you shouldn't be allowed to post, I'll be defending your right to do so.
anyhow, I gotta run—back tomorrow.

@Dori Seeya!

@Dori see you around, thank for stopping by

Is it appropriate for me to participate here even though I'm not in the beta?

Your input was greatly apreciated

5:04 AM
I'd say yes @sidran32

@sidran32 we've had a few stop by. I see no reason for you not to.
anyway I've stayed up later than I intended. I too will be back tomorrow.

Sure. I've stopped by before. Though I did wonder.
Aw, see you two.

@waxeagle Okay. Good night! :)

Anyways, I did read up and it was an interesting debate. Interesting comments above, too, as I am a Catholic. :P

@sidran32 [chuckles] "Interesting" indeed...

5:06 AM
@sidran32 please take no offense to Catholics being brought into it...

@sidran32 have you got something on your mind?

I would have to say that I agree with Dori. Personal opinions aside, if Mormons and JW self-identify as Christians, and considering many identify them as part of the "Christian" umbrella category, there's no reason to not have them comment.

Yes I have come to that conclusion...

I don't know how it's being done in the beta right now, but I do think it would be good to be clear from what perspective you are speaking from, at least for the major partitions in Christianity.

@sidran32 There are already a couple meta questions regarding that.

5:08 AM
And @waxeagle, no offense is taken. I have seen many different views, and am not unaware of what people may think of Catholics in some circles. But I also have many non-Catholic Christian brothers and sisters in Christ who I get along with quite well.
@ElendiaStarman Ah, good to hear.

@sidran32 yes meta has been fun here. Way more controversy than gardening :)

the site is down for maintenance

@waxeagle LOL I'll bet! :P
@JonathonByrd I just got that too.

@waxeagle Hah. Well, wait until I post a question about whether or not talking to your plants makes them grow better! :P

@sidran32 please do. We need questions :). You could even post the old Audio A houseplant song as a case study :)

5:11 AM
I don't know that one! :o
Also, I'm not a gardener, so I wouldn't be a good fit there. ;)

@sidran32 you should look it up its pretty awesome
@sidran32 then you should start a garden. Come ask all your questions on Gardening.se :)

Hehe :) That would get you many questions...

@sidran32 exactly :)
I swear, actually going to bed this time.

Oh, @JonathonByrd, I don't have anything in particular on my mind. I just found out a couple days ago that there's going to be a Christian section on this Q&A site I like, and since I'm a sucker for theological discussion, I had to check it out. :)

@sidran32 ...and there are LOADS of theological discussion already there for you... :P

5:13 AM
@ElendiaStarman Looking forward to it. :)

@sidran32 with any luck late tuesday

@sidran32 In fact, I probably wouldn't be surprised if you had to think for a bit to come up with a new question... :P

@waxeagle Do you think that the private beta is going well?

@sidran32 ...can I answer that one too? :P

Hehe, @ElendiaStarman.
And yes, go ahead :P

5:14 AM
@sidran32 lots of questions, lots of answers, lots of holy wars on meta...I'd say fairly well for a bunch of christians trying to get along...

YAY! :P

I'd say much the same as wax. Two times where there was serious friction, and a ton of questions and answers. In general, it seems to be going fairly well.

Awesome! :)

where was the serious friction? did I miss it?

@JonathonByrd The first one was near the end of the first day, if I recall correctly, between Roland and...some guy whose name I can't quite remember right now.

5:16 AM
I've seen both sides, in my limited exposure on Christian groups online. Seen major fallout and division, and a real ecumenical coming together. I personally subscribe to the idea that division is more to our detriment than benefit.

in chat?

His avatar was purplish...
@JonathonByrd Yes, in chat.

Divide & conquer is a great way to eliminate an enemy. I think Satan's trying to do that, if you know what I mean.
But then you can't have a coming together if it isn't genuine. :P

@sidran32 Heh...I'd say he's been working that strategy for millennia...

5:18 AM
@ElendiaStarman Definitely. He's a patient fellow...
Or, perhaps persistent :P

@sidran32 Hah...he IS immortal after all...

:P
But anyways, to respond to a point I think I read above... I didn't know the Pope said that about Protestants, though I think I know what he's getting at... I would not say that Protestants can't get to heaven. I wouldn't say that they necessarily would have a harder time at it, either. Though I would say that, as a Catholic (and I only am being honest, not trying to proselytize), Protestants do miss out on some things.
I have a lot of respect for what they can do and have done through the centuries, though. There's certain things that they can often do better than us Catholics. But I still haven't seen fit to switch over. :P
(personally)
And given that I don't know you all very well, I can also get somewhat nervous that I might touch a nerve. It's so much easier doing this in person, but I don't get that as often as I'd like. :P
Not since college, anyway :)

@sidran32 Hehe. Well, you can be assured of this; it's pretty hard to make me lose my cool.

@ElendiaStarman That's a good trait. :) I like to say the same about myself.
Used to be worse though. I think God's helping me with that.

@sidran32 Great! :D
@sidran32 Yeah? I'm curious to know what...

5:30 AM
Oh, and that thing above about Catholics appropriating other cultures or something? From where that came from, it's true, but very misconstrued. :P

When a culture was converted, the Catholic Church would allow them to retain their local customs and even sometimes their deities, but they would be molded to fit Christian theological teaching, and the deities often would instead become saints (and therefore, no longer deities).

@sidran32: I actually meant what you think Protestants are missing out on.

@ElendiaStarman To know "what"? I have been in arguments online with atheists many times. I'd keep my cool for a while, but eventually I'd get frustrated and break down. If I get passionate, I do have a tendency to monologue and get aggressive. Did some prayer, took some time off, and when I came back, found myself much more calm during those events, and instead of feeling anger, feeling at peace and even love or compassion for those on the other end.
Oh, what they're missing out on? Mainly, the full presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. I know some Protestant churches have similar beliefs about it. As Mass is a celebration of that supper, of the Eucharist, it tends to have much a deeper purpose than simply fellowship and learning/hearing the Scripture. It's such a personal experience and I haven't felt it at any Protestant service I've been to.
It's not just a symbol, but a physical act of taking Jesus into your body. I would miss that. :)
Everything else, the fellowship and Bible study, I could get anywhere else at any time. Though it definitely should be present at Mass, it doesn't define the Mass.
So that's what I mean.

@sidran32 I see! Very interesting...

nods I know that there's some non-Catholic and non-Orthodox Christian churches that have similar views, like Lutheran and Episcopal, but I have not been to those Masses before so I can't really comment on that.
But even then, there are some theological differences and I feel that at this point, the main reason divisions still exist is plainly because they have for a while already, and politics.

@sidran32 That probably IS the case.

5:40 AM
But ya, my main experience is in Baptist and Congregational or Federated Protestant churches.
@ElendiaStarman Ya.
I mean, there are real divisions in theology that may be a barrier for full communion, but I think many of the issues are less problematic as they were back when these splits occurred.

@sidran32 I hardly have any church experience beyond Wesleyan and two other denominations I don't know/remember the name of.

Ah

I AM still a youngling... :P
Certainly if compared to Yoda... >.>

Oh, and I forgot, my family had many Methodist friends. Though I don't believe I've personally been to a Methodist service, we did have many Methodists hanging about. :P
@ElendiaStarman Ah, hehe. Well, I am technically young, too. :P
Only 25 :)

@sidran32 Lol. I'm a few years yet younger than you. :P

5:43 AM
@ElendiaStarman That's not too bad. ;)

@sidran32 Hehe. It DOES put me at a slight disadvantage when I want to answer questions; I don't know as much as if I was older.

@ElendiaStarman Don't worry. We are here to learn, after all. :)

@sidran32 Hah, very true!

The collective knowledge of the world is pretty comprehensive. The trick is just to get people to talk to one another. ;)

@sidran32 Hah, indeed.

5:50 AM
So, I hear that one can be added to the private beta? :O
I would like that. Obviously. But I also hear of some shiny badges that come with it, too. :o
Oh wait... he just realized that public betas count too. :P
(Though I wouldn't mind if I got added, despite there only being a few days left anyway)

@sidran32 I have not heard such a thing. Sorry. :/
Anyway, I'm going to bed. Awesome day tomorrow for me. :D

Oh well, it's ok. :)
Goodnight!

G'night @sidran32! :)

I should head to sleep too, myself.
It's nearly 2 AM
Goodnight

@sidran32 LOL, yep same here!

5:53 AM
