I just tried editing this question into being a real question. @ElendiaStarman what do you think about re-openeing it now?
How about you @Ray?

Nice job. I was wondering if/how it is salvageable

@Ray I just used what I learned from our recent massive talks that concluded good questions being their focus and being answerable with reference-able doctrines. If we can turn around an question that was -7 and community closed/commented as not even being a question at all by applying a little dose of our own medicine, I think it our case for setting those as reasonable quality guidelines will be strengthened.

Ray
That's a great test case

@caleb reopened

@Sven Awesome! A full five community votes to re-open something previously closed and downvoted into oblivion.

@Caleb Well done. :)

1:25 PM
@ElendiaStarman No credit here due. I just forced it to fit into the good-focused-question guidelines we're in the process of proposing!

2:17 PM
Is that our first community re-open?

@Waggers I don't think so..but I don't have any numbers on that

Q: Christian History and Prayer vs Doctrine and Bible

Peter TurnerNot to rehash these questions: Should history questions be on topic? What are the limits on history/historical questions? Are questions on what Christians have done in history on-topic? But in refocusing to be Christian-Doctrine-and-Biblical-Basis.SE have we ignored the limits we previously s...

@Caleb Conversion therapy, since you were asking, is pseudoscientific bullshipt which wrecks people's lives.

Q: What makes a good focused question?

CalebIn response to Can we reverse the trend on low quality posts? we would like to propose the following thoughts on what defines a good focused question. The primary focus of this site is a place to ask questions about Christianity. We have identified a couple of key aspects of constructive questi...

Is it too late to reword my question slightly?

Q: When did knowledge of Christ's sacrifice become necessary for salvation?

FlimzyFirst, this question makes two assumptions: For a person to be saved today, they must hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, and accept the gift of His death on the cross as penance for their sin. Before the death of Christ, the requirement for salvation was faith in God's future redemptive work (See...

I'm thinking it would be better as "Was there a time when knowledge of Christ's sacrifice became necessary? And if so, can we know when?"

hehe, the guy is right that a terrorist is more than someone who flies planes into buildings
a terrorist is someone who uses terror to affect change
Although it's not clear from the article that those threatening a lawsuit are using terror to affect change
Although their lawsuit may inflict terror upon the mayor, it's not clear that's their intent
Manythings are terrifying, without having the intention of using terror to affect change
It sounds to me like they are attempting to use the law to affect change
People are silly

@Flimzy seems like a reasonable method...

@mods do you think this deleted question of mine could be salvageable by refocusing it like I've tried to do? I still feel it had good answers and it's a pity they're deleted.

Wow, that's an old question

5:23 PM
@dancek you could try using the word saved instead of christian...
not sure if its really salvageable

@Flimzy yeah, the first night when I had no idea what guidelines we'd choose :P
@waxeagle if you think that way, I'll just forget about it.
well, for now :)
I already thought I gave it up, but it still came to my mind to save it :)

@dancek its a question I'd love to delve into because I find it interesting, but I don't think its one we can do here...

Q: What makes a good supported answer?

El'endia StarmanIn response to Can we reverse the trend on low quality posts? we would like to propose the following thoughts on what defines a good supported answer. In order to give a valid answer about Christianity, it will almost always be necessary to reference a specific doctrine, biblical passage, or oth...

@Flimzy People are silly, and sometimes scary. These people are undermining their own position.
I really need to change my blog theme to one that doesn't hide the fact that I'm using blockquote tags.
In other news, I'm pretty sure this is my highest marked answer on any SE site.

A: If JW believe they should use Jehovah to be accurate why don't they use Jesus' real Hebrew name?

TRiGThere's a problem with one of your assumptions: Jehovah's Witnesses don't use Jehovah "to be accurate". They use Jehovah because they think it's important to call God by name, and because Jehovah is the traditional rendering in English. They accept that the original pronunciation has been lost, a...

And I wrote it entirely off the top of my head.

7:45 PM
@TRiG is that really constructive?

@waxeagle Well, it's perfectly relevant to the discussion being had about the FFRF.

@TRiG I mean I get that, but still we are trying to keep it clean around here.

@waxeagle And?

@TRiG come on man you don't think that suggesting the religion is akin to child molestation is keeping it clean?

@waxeagle Look, I didn't go looking for that image, though I had seen it before. It popped up where I was reading somewhere else, and I popped it in here. It's short, and to the point, and I threw it in.
In other words, it's not something I feel strongly about. If you want it got rid of, I'll do it.

7:59 PM
@TRiG better to take it down. I don't care (in fact personally I'm rather amused by it) but I've gotta put the mod hat on and say its not appropriate here.

Except that, apparently, I can't. It was posted too long ago. I no longer have edit rights.

I'll take care of that for ya. ;)
Oh, crap! I think I just suspended him...
@TRiG Oops... Sorry about that!
@TRiG That really was unintentional.
(Just for the chat log, I unsuspended him...) ;)

@Richard So you discovered the auto-suspension for chat flags? ;-)

@Fabian Yeah, whoops! I figured it was like comments that just deleted them with one click.
Not so much...

The spam/offensive flags always carry a penalty for questions/answers and chat messages, comments are the exception.

8:09 PM
@Fabian I'll keep that in mind! Thank goodness they added the mod tool to let us unsuspend. ;)
