@tripleee I'm not a fan of how the flag option is hidden behind a button click. Same with edit, too. The design seems hostile to understanding how to use the site.
Which...to be honest, is par for the course with SE. There are a lot of other functionality which is completely hidden from users and they can't even guess at its existence. Review queues, close votes, for example. Even flags are not at all transparent.
@VLAZ I don't know, it pretty clearly conveys "stay away at all costs" to me...

@Anerdw Look, I'm down with any criticism of Discussions. But I'm griping about an even more fundamental problem with the sites in general. I'm an old school internet forum goer. And the old adage of "lurk moar" is in general very applicable to most sites, apps, communities, etc. However, it's as if SE have taken steps to prevent this from working. You cannot learn the system by observing it. Because SE have made a lot of what's happening opaque.
5
CI on e7546ab succeeded.
CI on b500a8a succeeded.
The hiding of very basic functionality like editing (and flagging) is in-line with this opaque approach to UX.
It would be nice if they got around to some of the onboarding they said they would do. Hopefully the dedicated homepage for new users proves its worth whenever it comes out. Even that might not be enough, though - I couldn't really figure this site out until reading like half the Help Center and FAQ, and even now I'm still trying to grasp some of the finer points. Compared to that, "lurk moar" would've been a dream.

@CodyGray sorry to hear that, what allergies are active in October in the Texas area?
I have no idea whatsoever. It's weird, actually, because this is not exactly a growing season. While the calendar says it's autumn, the weather doesn't know that yet, and is still acting like it's summer. Nothing is growing, and certainly nothing is blooming. The leaves are falling off of some of the trees, but only because it's been over a month since we've had any rain, and everything is dry and burning up. Hard to imagine why there would be pollen or other allergens.
08:30
[ SmokeDetector ] GitHub Actions: success on 74e1d0c by tripleee in the master branch
It's not uncommon for me to have spring allergies, but fall allergies are a bit unusual. We do get juniper trees making massive amounts of pollen in the wintertime, and that bothers many people, especially due to its scale (you can actually see the mass groupings of yellow pollen floating through the air), but that doesn't bother me.

There may be some difference in terms of what is available "over the counter" (i.e., without a prescription from a doctor). All of these are generally prohibited in the EU
Most used are: Cetirizine and Fexofenadine

Those are the old-school, first-generation antihistamines. They're available in the US, but not particularly popular, and definitely not what people use to treat seasonal allergies. Now, for me, I have taken them, and they do not have any drowsiness effect on me. But I still don't take them now, because they require a prescription, and doctors don't want to just give you unlimited refills on a prescription to fill whenever you start getting symptoms, so it becomes too much of a burden.

@CodyGray Sorry I'm not sure I understand this, people can afford it whether it's free or not?
Which means I just stick with the over-the-counter second-generation antihistamines that are more selective and don't cause drowsiness, because those also work.
@Cow What I mean is, even if it's not free, the cost is low enough that people can generally afford it.

@CodyGray ah ok, that makes sense, yeah I've used Fexofenandine since 1994
@CodyGray Now I understand, thank you
and yes that is true
I used to take Loratadine; recently, I've switched to Cetirizine. The main thing I dislike about Cetirizine is that I haven't found a 24-hour time-release formulation. Otherwise, I think it works better for me, while not tending to lose efficacy over time of taking it. But efficacy is highly individualized, so you really have to experiment with what works for you.

@CodyGray Yeah I use it too in the high seasons, but it doesn't last very long on me and I'm only allowed to take one very 24 hours

I normally use 180mg fexo two times a day morning and evening before sleep
works well
Yeah, I'm just bad at remembering to take it twice a day. Also, my schedule is variable enough that there may not be two times roughly 12-hours apart that I'm awake every day consistently. So, I much prefer the 24-hour time-release packaging, rather than the 12-hour ones.

yeah that's understandable
I just realized Hydroxyzine is classified as a hard drug in Denmark
It's illegal
@CodyGray how much would one pay to have decent health insurance in the US?
08:57
That seems like a weird classification. I guess because people can abuse it in large doses as a sedative or hallucinogen? But, in my experience, it is not frequently used. And is very rarely, if ever, used as an antihistamine.
@Cow Oh, it varies widely on a lot of factors.

@CodyGray we are generally a bit weird over here :D
@Cow varies widely from state to state. also would depend on number of family members, whether your work provides it and how much they cover, etc

@CodyGray damn, that already sounds expensive
