@cigien It would be useful to record the name, so that a few hundred people (and different people at different times) aren't all attributed to the same account. What if most of them provide great feedback and a small number have difficulties using the commands. Initially I asked if it's a "bug", but now it's implications seem much worse.

@Rob To clarify: the feedback (i.e. fp, tp, etc) is attributed to the user, it's just the additional comment that's not attributed if the user has SD privileges without an MS account. I don't know the exact numbers, but I doubt it's hundreds who fall in this category. Could you clarify what the issues are exactly if the comments are not attributed? I'm not sure I see them.

@cigien The number is over 500 minus the few who have an account, source: meta.stackexchange.com/q/334124/282094 - as for the remainder, I'm still waiting on their reply that you answered in their stead and will have some time tomorrow.

3:44 AM
@Rob I could be wrong, but I don't think the majority of mods on the network leave comments on SD reports. Also, I didn't mean at all to answer for someone else, I'm sorry if I gave that impression. Since you pinged them directly, I'm sure they saw it, and will respond if/when they want to.

Rob
Thanks.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad ip for hostname in answer (1): Why does z-index not work? by Junaid Firdosi on stackoverflow.com

@cigien I guess it wouldn't be hard to add an attribution to an SE account, at least as a fallback (maybe simply in the comment formatting)

@Rob First off, I'm sorry for not responding. I didn't see the message until after the earlier portion of the conversation with @cigien. While it took a bit of time, it had appeared that y'all had gotten to the technically correct answer: users who have SD privileges, but who don't have metasmoke accounts have the non-feedback replies they make to SmokeDetector reports recorded as comments which are attributed to the SmokeDetector account on metasmoke, or at least that's what I recall.
Given that you'd gotten to the technically correct answer, I'd mentally marked it off as resolved. I'm sorry that I left it hanging when you were expecting a response.
The SmokeDetector account on metasmoke is used, at least in part, as a placeholder account with a variety of things attributed to it including feedbacks which were applied by the system, I believe some which were abandoned (i.e. user deleted, but not all such), some comments, etc.
Thinking about it from a strict copyright/licensing point of view, you're correct that this is not what should be done. If SD can't attribute the comment to an MS user, as a result of an associated SE account, then the comment needs to be attributed to the chat user who created it.

@tripleee Yeah, that would be nice, if it's not too much work. I'm curious, can admins see who left a comment if it's not attributed?

@cigien As far as I'm aware, the information isn't retained. The attribution on SE is based on the MS user's ID: post_comments.user_id.

@Makyen It's OK to be busy, you have a lot to do; I'm perfectly happy to wait, when something is critical I make an additional ping to another admin. --- As for eventually getting the answer, I tried to politely explain that he was shoulder surfing and offering incorrect advice; eventually that was rectified. He did that on my visit almost 2 weeks ago, which increased the time it took to communicate with another user;
leading to some tension that took additional time to resolve.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially problematic ns configuration in answer (1): Selenium didn't click second time after being reloaded to homepage ✏️ by Mayank Shukla on stackoverflow.com

Rob
The purpose of telling you about the bug (design error) was to inform you, not to have another person guess.
@Makyen That's an additional reason, that I hadn't considered. The unmentioned point is how the user would edit or delete their comment (as should have been done in that case) if such comments are all attributed to a bulk account. --- Thanks for taking the time to look at that, and adding it to the Job Jar; many other priorities before that issue.

@Rob Without an account on MS, the user can't edit it or delete any comment. With an account, they could edit or delete their own comments. I don't see a way around that. Anyone with a validated account can click the "Something not right?" link at the top of the post page to inform the admins that there's an issue with the post and ask for admin assistance. When doing so, please explain the issue. An admin can edit or delete the comment.
Once the comment is on MS, I don't really see a methodology to reduce the restrictions which wouldn't open the door for the spammers/trolls who do attack MS from time to time. I am, of course, open to suggestions.
It would be possible to design the system such that a user could create an account on MS after making a comment and allow the user to take ownership of any comments they created without an account. However, that would be a significant amount of work, which isn't likely to be something which will have developer time allocated to it.
However, we should change how the comments get sent to MS by SD such that we do always end up with accurate attribution. As @tripleee mentioned, the backup way to do it without changes to the database would be to just add the attribution to the comment text for those chat users which don't map to an MS user.

@cigien That pattern looks like it's already caught by Mostly punctuation marks in answer and Mostly punctuation marks in body Append -force to the command if you really want to add this pattern.

@SmokeDetector I agree that this is a false positive, one problem with the regex is that the title has detected the root word and a longer version one time but not the other; leading to one additional (2-6) finding, resulting in 5 instead of 4.

@Ollie The first link is a seedy question with two promoting answers, the accepted answer barely hints that they are the author and the second answer doesn't mention that it's Abner's blog, but all three a long time users and the code referred to is OpenSource: github.com/gisgraphy/gisgraphy github.com/avner-levy/hibernate_search_solr_integration - perhaps that the moderator visited that question is the end of the issue. --- Watching here is a good move.

@Rob yeah, could be. My flag was approved but no action appears to have been taken, so probably.

This could do with some deleting: meta.stackexchange.com/a/370317/798831, but it doesn't seem worth reporting.
And someone's upvoted it.

@Ollie Isn't that NAA on MSE?

if you meant reporting the NAA posts.

No, it's not worth reporting. I meant for deletion. I raised a NAA flag on the site.

@cigien well, yes. It's NAA, and will end up deleted anyway.

@Makyen My suggestion would be to add attribution rather than use the name SmokeDetector, and if the user is linked to the comment and has a Staff and/or Moderator bit that they have the ability to edit/delete their own comment - user's without a trusted bit couldn't do either, but people with no SD/MS account shouldn't be able to leave comments on MS; leaving them as user SmokeDetector certainly isn't good (if you are saying that it is possible, currently).
@Ollie Something hit the low quality queue on MSE, but it's not showing me the post ATM; maybe in several minutes.
I see you got it.
